Well I am currently a very happy girl as a visit to Lucas Musselburgh has just satisfied cravings I didn't know I had . Following a walk in nearby Newhailes I stopped off here with my family for a milkshake. On reading the menu however I realised that I wanted EVERYTHING. Now I have been a frequent visitor of Luca's in Morningside through the years , and have always enjoyed the legendary praline parfaits irn bru sorbet and burgers. However I havent been much in the last couple of years as I feel the service has really gone downhill, which is a real shame. Not the case here, the original Lucas. The menu seems to have had a few extras and options added on since my last visit around a year ago and I plumped for a red cola ice cream float(2 scoops of ice cream) and onion rings which were really fresh tasting and delicious. The atmosphere was busy and bustling but the staff friendly and efficient. Clearly most of the locals were out for the first sunny evening we have seen in a long time. As I was leaving I realised I couldn't leave without some more of the yummy, home cooked comfort fare in my tummy. So after a look at their takeaway menu(almost the entire menu, pasta, pizza, full english breakfast) i decided on lasagne, salad and chips. About ten minutes later, it was ready. SO tasty, Not fancy food, but filling without being heavy and it such a treat. Luca's is really good value I think I couldn't help noticing a takeaway flat white coffee was £1.50 and I know from previous visits that the coffee is really good. I think if I lived here I'd be in all the time. While I much prefer the atmosphere in this branch I'm certainly going to pop into the more "mums and toddlers" Morningside branch again soon. Thank you Luca's. Now if anyone wants to pick me up some green apple sorbet and rolo ice cream when they visit...

You have got to love this place. The most amazing ice-cream ever. All made fresh. Mmmm my tummy is a rumbly as i type. No matter how old you are this place never changes and always gives great service and has a such a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. With the traditional flavours of ice-cream or the bit more adventerous flavours. And of the course the scrummy Knickerbockerglorys, Banana Splits. There is alot of history to this place and its not untill you look on there web page you realise this. I urge you to visit the web site and read the 'about us' section its very heartwarming. They have a lovely child-friendly cafe that serves some lovely snacks and light-meals. Not many people know this but they also hire out a beautiful vintage Rolls-Royce for all occasions. Weddings, parties ect. So go on and check them out you won't be disappointed!

My folks had been here many times, but I'm brand new to the great Musselburgh ice cream wars, so I decided to try both of the village favourite parlours. Such indulgence, I know. To compare the two establishments is like choosing between a Lamborghini and a Maserati. Both are fabulous, but whilst the Maserati has a more subtle elegance, the Lambo is more "in your face". This was my experience with the ice cream flavours. The S. Luca ones were great, but definitely more light compared to the fuller flavour of DiRollo. I had a double cone with Peanut Butter Crunch (a smooth Peanut Butter Ice Cream with crunchy chocolate covered nut pieces) as well as the absolute standout Turkish Delight ice cream which was gorgeous. I'd never have thought Turkish Delight would go sooooo well with ice cream, but it was a winner. No matter which flag you fly in the ice cream war, Musselburgh can count itself very lucky to have two such fantastic parlours.

Hands down, my response for the past 25 *cough cough* years has been Luca's. I wouldn't even sniff in the direction of Di Rollo's. But... you know what, time can change the old taste buds, and I can definitely say now that I have more than a little love for Di Rollo. It tastes creamier, I like the different flavours (raspberry ripple for the win! As is coconut). So now I tend to walk on the wild side, my opinions change, and I go against the tide of Luca's fans. It's a small location with a few tables but is really setup for takeaway business. Situated right across from the Meadows, this works well. I had come out without my glasses and unfortunately they didn't have a printed menu so I was at a bit of a loss for what was on offer. It was only after I ordered a frozen yoghurt that I discovered that they have a non-dairy option which would have been a better choice. As has been said previously, they have only two flavours at a time with the option to mix. When I was in the options were plain (which I think is a standard) and banana. I opted for the plain and splurged on an oreo topping. The yoghurt was very tasty without being overly sugary - big plus. The small serving was ENORMOUS as well as being pricey (£2.75, I think?). I would have much preferred a smaller portion with a smaller price. All in all it was ok but I probably won't find myself itching to return - my recommendation would be to advertise their flavour of the day on their website or Facebook page, and to create a smaller and more wallet friendly serving size.

I was torn between the Salted Caramel and the Pistachio and I knew I couldn't finish 2 full scoops. The worker saw the indecision painted all over my face and recommended the Pistachio since it was a limited item. So I went with that. To my surprise she also included a large spoonful of the Salted Caramel just so I can try it too! Such a nice gesture. So there I was enjoying the creamy, delicious gelato sitting on a bench just across from Mary's Milk Bar. All the while indulging and soaking in the magnificent view of the castle and the very tasty gelato :)

To begin with, don't let the name of the cafe confuse you... yes, it IS a dairy with great ice…read morecream... but it also serves food, including sandwiches, scones, tea, and breakfast (i've uploaded a pic of the menu). Yelp has rejected my recommendation of calling it Scottish Food or a Cafe and has kept it listed simply as Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt (neither of which I've tried here yet). There is some good food in Perth even though you may have to pay a bit more for it than you would in the bigger cities of Scotland. But just outside Perth, you find some farm shops with some incredible locally sourced food. Stewart Tower Dairy is one of these. Most people would have found this place either by word of mouth or from signs on the A9. I actually discovered this place whilst road biking with a friend. And wow.... so glad I know about Stewart Tower. I have only stopped here on my bike rides and they're very welcoming to cyclists, even sweaty ones. The staff here are super friendly. They also have a nice shop inside with local and/or gourmet foods. Most of the time I have had just a pot of tea with a scone. I have learnt recently to ask for the Tea Pigs Everyday blend. It's even better than the regular house blend, so I would recommend trying that or one of the other specialty teas. On another stop, I was trying to decide whether or not to push through and have a late lunch at home or whether I should have lunch at Stewart Tower Dairy.... AND... maybe I gave in and had lunch there. This was partly to do with the fact that the menu had minestrone that day, and I definitely didn't have homemade soup at my flat. So I had to have it. And I ordered a Coronation Chicken sandwich to go along with it, served on malted brown bread. It was SOOO good. I often feel like Coronation Chicken is a good test run for sandwiches for any cafe, and I wasn't disappointed. So... my advice is as followed: if you're in Perth and have a car, then there are two places you should check out. Stewart Tower Dairy is one of them. And you won't be disappointed. It's about a 10-15 minute drive out of town. And if you happen to have just biked through Little Glenshee, then reward yourself with a scone, tray bake or some ice cream. No need to push through and bike home without a break ;) Oh and did I mention they have goats and lambs for the kids to see outside? So bring the kids, but maybe not on your bike.
