This place is right by The Vennel so it was a convenient location on my midday stroll. I first walked by and there was maybe 10 people in line so I decided to get it after visiting The Vennel. On my way back there were only 3 people ahead of me so great timing to enjoy delicious gelato in the cold but clear skies overlooking the castle. And I did just that. I was torn between the Salted Caramel and the Pistachio and I knew I couldn't finish 2 full scoops. The worker saw the indecision painted all over my face and recommended the Pistachio since it was a limited item. So I went with that. To my surprise she also included a large spoonful of the Salted Caramel just so I can try it too! Such a nice gesture. So there I was enjoying the creamy, delicious gelato sitting on a bench just across from Mary's Milk Bar. All the while indulging and soaking in the magnificent view of the castle and the very tasty gelato :)

They offer even two or more flavors in one scoop. Next time I will try and get an "Affogato", a mix of coffee and ice cream. I learned that Affogato means drowning, so clearly the idea behind ice cream drowning in coffee :-) Also beware! I opted for a traditional 99 (soft, whipped ice-cream with a chocolate flake) in a cone with sprinkles. I suppose this is a good point to say that I'm not the world's biggest ice-cream lover but this really set my world on fire, so much so that I went back the next day for another one. My friend opted for the butterscotch and white chocolate with coconut and these were equally delicious (I had to taste, for research purposes of course). They didn't have a huge selection but there was something to suit everybody here. Also, in terms of price, this place was fairly steep at around £6.50 for two ice-creams. In saying that, however, the price didn't stop me from going back the second day and if I was back in Edinburgh tomorrow I'd be straight up the Royal Mile to get one of these bad boys!

I think we'd all flock in after dinner looking to appease our sweet tooth- good for us and good for business (and good for our dentist!) It's a quaint little shop that does some funky flavours of icecream. Take away tubs (three scoops) is £4 which is a total bargain in my view, especially when it's made by the lovely Wendy herself. Taster spoons are a good mouthful and the changes in flavours will make me ever curious about what concoction is hot on the shelf today. Since there doesn't appear to be an appropriate time for us working grown ups to go during the work week, I'd reccomend just taking the day off work to hang here instead.
