The outside area was so nice we agreed that we'll have to return in Spring to enjoy it. Inside there's a CIA store with so many kitchen items. I spoke with the employee there and she shared her knowledge of the two CIA facilities, there in Napa and the other in St Helena. She was super friendly and it was nice to meet her. We ventured into the museum which for me, someone who enjoys and appreciates food and cooking, I loved. This culinary collection was amazing. We also got to view the long wall of viticulturist which was interesting. Take a look at my photos to view CIA's testing kitchens. Very cool. This facility also has a restaurant, The Grove and an open area to rent for special occasions. Since the restaurant was closed, when I'm in Napa again, I'm definitely going to try it.

Street parking wasn't too bad especially compared to other parts of the city. Even on a Friday evening, I was able to find free street parking just a block away. The inside is very spacious. It has a rustic farmhouse meets warehouse vibe with a huge wall full of wine for purchase as well. I like that the tables are pretty spaced out so I don't feel cramped. Dinner was excellent! For starters, we had the scallop with beets and avocado. The scallops were juicy and paired well with the sweet beets and creamy avocado. For my main, I had the trout. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The small crispy potato chips on top added a nice crunch. The asparagus were delightful. They had a subtle "sweetness" that can only be found in fresh, high quality produce. For dessert, we had the olive oil cake. I loved that it wasn't too sweet and paired well with the slightly salty strawberry and the tart lemon curd. Overall, a really good meal! I appreciated that Ungrafted honors the ingredients and aren't trying too hard to be fancy or gimmicky. Service was also friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend this spot to family and friends!

I took the online WSET Level 1 Award in Wines class with Napa Valley Wine Academy earlier this year…read moreand really enjoyed it. My instructor was awesome and the online learning platform was surprisingly user friendly. I learned a ton (maybe too much -- now my friends don't want to drink wine with me because I can't help but start dropping wine facts)! The class consisted of several self-paced modules (written content, a few self-check quizzes, videos, etc.), and three Zoom class sessions with group tastings that were recorded in the event you could not attend. I took the WSET Level 1 exam immediately after the course ended and it felt like a piece of cake (passed with no issues!) after making my way through all of Napa Valley Wine Academy's content. If you're looking to get a great foundation in wines and preparation for the exam, I definitely recommend Napa Valley Wine Academy's courses, but if you are looking for something more interactive to build community, I would not recommend the online courses -- nobody in my class used the discussion feature and I did not connect with a single classmate. I really enjoyed Level 1 and would have already signed up for Level 2 if it weren't so expensive....hopefully one of these days!

This was my second time in so wanted to give the place the benefit of the doubt as I like to support local businesses. The young guy was super rude and pretentious the first time. They have 2 types of service options, if you decided to enjoy wine in their establishment. You can either order a $20 wine flight (Which comes with 3 glasses) or buy a bottle and they will uncork for you to enjoy there. They had about 1 to 2 options for 4 wine type of choices located on a card. We went with the flight. I had questions because I am a Cab and Malbec girl and in their Reds area, nothing adds even close to it. When the male employee spoke to me, he had a bit of sarcasm coming off. I didn't understand why because my questions were valid. He was short with his answers as if he did not want to talk to me. After this, he poured our drinks. I questioned the amount because it was very very very little bit. When I spoke with that same guy, he stated "What you expect..a whole glass of wine at $20 for 3?" I told him that I expected a little more love half a glass. He was like "It says on the card that it is 2.5 oz". I looked at the card because I knew that was nowhere on there. So I informed him that the size was not in the card and that is something that they should put because what we received was not worth $20 and that we could have purchased a bottle. That's how they get people. That flight is a total rip off!! Also, he put the drinks all on front of us, but did not tell us which was which, who's was for who nor personally give it to us. There were no little signs to inform us of what we were drinking. We had to ask him because he had walked off. He came over and was confused as you which was which as well. We received no water and we weren't even asked. Both employees were consumed with another person who was there (Business) and wine tasting and talking that we just weren't that relevant to ensure that our needs were fully met. Wine tasting: All 3 of the wines I had was disgusting. The one of the Reds that I had, stated it was bold. It was not. I had a Bubble (Orange) and it was horrible. Like all of them were cheap wines with no real packed flavor. The female employee or owner (I'm unsure) asked ONLY my friend what she thought of the wine. She never bothered to ask me which was really unprofessional. Neither of them ever introduced themselves or gave their names although we indicated that this was our 1st visit. Not very personable. This was a total waste of money and time for an experience. Wet had to go and find another place to get an enjoyable experience at.

So I have very mixed feelings about this place. Some things are incredible. Some things are not…read moreso great. I am a member of the "Legends" club. So that to me means it's top of the line membership as indicated by their pricing and what we get. So I feel I should get top notch deals, pricing and service. Turns out, we get the same shaft as the lower club members. Starting with the good, the location is pristine. Nice area with lots of room for kids and adults to mingle and play. The wine is also pretty darn good. Of course there are some better than others but I enjoy most of their wine. The service is also for the most part very good. The waitstaff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Their food is also pretty darn good. It's not incredible, and a bit overpriced but it's fine enough. Their wine pricing is also fair (but of course with the highest membership we get the biggest discount). My biggest complaints would be the price gouging and lack of communication. We made arrangements on a Friday to show Sunday with 6 and asked for the "VIP space upgrade to lounge or upstairs Vista Patio Lounge (when available)". They said no problem. When we showed on Sunday they said it was closed with no notice. Just a sorry. OK whatever. We sit inside (6 people and 2 children) and they charge for 2 children a "non drinker" charge of $10 ($5 each). A head count charge for non-drinkers? For children? Total nonsense! I am spending over $1,200 a year here and you want to gouge me for someone's kids? Their tastings are $40 a pop which is really crazy. Our price is waived on this so that's fine but if you are not a member you are paying a lot for a little. The wines do take a bit of time to come and they don't give you a lot. Kind of a bummer waiting for the taste. We ended up with 4 appetizers (sliders $24, Charcuterie $25, Tater Tots $12 and Pretzel Bites with Grilled Sausage $16) 2 bottles of wine and $4.25 for water and the bill was over $250. Oh and top that off, with 6 people, they charge a mandatory 20% on the bill for a tip and are basing that with taxes (as the button default), not the actual sub-total so they are actually getting about 23%. All in all, I am not sure that the cost is worth what you get. I mean we are giving them a lot of money just to be members and then having to pay more and more for anything else that really should be included (like water and kids) makes this place just a bit too over-rated for me. Probably end my club membership in the fall and go someplace that doesn't place money first.
