The room was majestic! If I base this review solely on the room, it would be five star for sure. I upgraded to a king room with fireplace, Jacuzzi, and Mountain View. It was top notch! From the outside, you would never expect it to be that nice. The room was impeccably clean. The bed was very nicely made there were two chairs positioned by the fireplace. The fireplace helped warm the room on a chilly night and brought a glow. I hi never thought I'd appreciate that coming from South Florida. Maybe I forgot what it's like to have a fireplace from my childhood when I lived in Massachusetts. The downside is there's no coffee maker in the room and even though they have complementary coffee in the lobby they don't open until 8 AM. I'm an early riser and I wanted to get to the white Mountain national Park early so that meant I had to go a few blocks to Dunkin' Donuts to get myself some coffee. There is no breakfast included. If you get the basic room it's worth it because the rates are much half that of those with upgrades. The front desk clerk had zero personality and refused to honor the online price which was $50 less than what I paid when I reserved the room. That is just not nice. On the other hand the guy from Turkey that cleaned our room was super nice and kind to us. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I probably will not book ahead of time if it's not busy season also, there is no direct mountain view, you have to look sideways. read more

We gave the Golden Gables Inn 2 stars because our request was honored for a 1st floor room and the room was clean. We were given a room and our key. At 1:23 AM someone was trying to enter our room. My wife was petrified as was I. We tried calling the main desk. No one answered. We had pressed 91 waiting to press another 1 to call the police. My wife yelled "room is taken." The trespasser left. The next morning we got a call from the front desk asking our name. We gave it and pointed out that we gave our license upon check in. We told the front desk what occurred at 1:23. With an embarrassed giggle, we were told that we were given the wrong room and the other key as given to the other guest. We checked out immediately. At the desk, we were given the same excuse of getting the wrong room and that the other key was given to another person. It would not happen again! ( also with an embarrassed giggle!) We pointed out that we were given a room number and a matching key. (No comment.) We were offered no additional compensation or an explicit apology for a very horrendous stay. read more

This place was perfect for our needs. We finished a 9+ mile hike that morning and definitely needed the personal hot tub that evening. The room was perfectly updated with granite counter tops in the bathroom. There was also a regular sized bath tub in there. There's a balcony with chairs, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a fireplace (have to ask to have it turned on during the summer). Outside there's a large children's playset, 2 large hammocks, a decent sized pool and jacuzzi. There's a railway adjacent to the property, but we only heard 1 train go by in the late morning. The front desk provided several restaurant options for dinner, several are within walking distance. FYI, we did note that most local restaurants do not offer take out. Downstairs there was a vending machine that contained water bottles and some small candies. Definitely recommend. read more

My experience with the hotel front desk was absolute horrendous. Kathleen greeted me with no greetings and when I tried to check-in, I was told that I was 4 mins early. I asked if the room would be ready in 4 mins (I could wait) - her response was I am not sure. When I asked how long should I wait - she said she wasn't sure. I decided to wait in the reception area and then 2 other couples walked in and she didn't even greet them but gave them room keys. I went out for few mins to check with them if they had to wait and were coming for the second time - they said No. They walked in and got the room keys within few mins of check-in. Finally after making me wait for an additional 30 mins (I refused to budge from reception area), she gave the room. No apologies for me having to wait, 30 mins after 3 PM (actual check-in time). She shared no wi-fi password, least interested in welcoming any guest. "Piece of shit" receptionist. She should be fired (IMO). Request to Management- Reprimand Kathleen and teach your receptionists - some basic manners and greeting skills. Never ever going to this Inn ever. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Golden Gables Inn for 4 nights, Mon - Thur, just before the 4th of July weekend. We did travel quite a bit over the past couple of years despite the goings on in the US and world. We were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness. Room was spotless. Pool was great. Staff was super friendly. There was no housekeeping service, but there was no issue getting towels and supplies. Pricing was very affordable. This is within walking distance of a lot of shopping and eateries. Free coffee was available in lobby, but not until 8:00 am. I and other guests would have liked coffee to be available much earlier. Went for a weekend getaway for our 5th wedding Anniversary. Found Golden Gables Inn in Booking.com. Booked a King Deluxe Room for the weekend of Aug. 28-30th. I have to say I have never been so satisfied with a property. It was beautifully kept, fire pit, pool, hot tub. When we walked into the room it was comfortable, roomy and very clean! As a manager of housekeeping my expectations are high when going into any hotel room but I was blown away with the cleanliness! Everything was spotless and smelled clean. From check-in to check-out I was thoroughly pleased with the establishment and the staff! We will hopefully be staying here everytime we are in North Conway! Very well done! The only thing I would suggest is a wall up between room 206's balcony and the room to the right (if you're looking out into the parking lot from the balcony). The other rooms balcony extends out giving them clear view of 206's room from their balcony. Oh and a bar/ring to hang hand towel next to the bathroom sink! read more

I've been staying at the GGI for a few years and it is a hidden gem centrally located to the outlet shopping and a short drive to the downtown historic area where the railway station is located. The rooms are very clean, a good size and comfortable. The rooms in the rear building are the best as they are less susceptible to the very busy street sounds at the front of the Inn. I have stayed in the front rooms and, although they are nice with a balcony, they are noisy from street sounds. I will continue to ur to stay at this Inn and recommend it to others. read more

Beware of this hotel!!!!! Golden Gables Inn is indeed beautiful, but for those who value their money, stay away! When we checked into the hotel, on September 26, 2023, we were told by the receptionist (Kathleen, that was extremally rude) that our credit card did not go through and she asked us for another card. We granted her request, but on every credit card she "tried", she claimed that the transaction was refused. We ended up trying several credit cards until she "realized" her mistake and the charge went through. After a few days, we realized that we were charged 8 times(!!!) for those 2 nights - over $2,000 instead of $262!!! We also verified with the credit card companies, who confirmed that we were indeed charged 8 times, and that the money reached the hotel. We have been trying to get our money back for over a month, but the hotel refuses to reverse the charges or take responsibility for the resulting banking fees. When we call, they just hang up on us. Don't risk your wallet. Find another hotel. read more

Inn room is clean and reasonably spacious; though our experience with Kathleen @ front-desk was so poor with clear instance of racism that cannot give more than 2 stars. We got to hotel a bit earlier than 3 pm from Boston and Kathleen said rooms were being cleaned so to come back at 3 pm; ok - as we had driven from Boston I asked if we could use restroom, she said declined saying restrooms were not for the public (even though we had a prepaid reservation). We came back @ 3 pm and saw her giving keys to a white couple; when we asked about our room, she said it was not ready and had no idea when it would be ready. I said at least give us some estimate so we can plan our afternoon and she refused to do that and raised her voice when I insisted she should provide an estimate; she asked me to leave the building. What???? Anyway we came back again after 30 min or so and then she gave the room keys though refused to allow us to be in the building that does not face the main road claiming other people had pre booked those rooms (we spoke to the couple ahead who got a room in that building and they said they had not prebooked that building). Shame on Kathleen and shame on hotel management / owners for employing a bigot and racist in a front-desk position. I would give them 0 stars if I could. Let me start by saying that we are loyal customers and have been staying here for years. I booked a room with 2 queen beds for 7/26-7/28. I took a picture of the confirmation number but never received an email. I called on 7/22 and was told that they had my reservation and that we had 2 queen beds in room #112. I wrote all of the information down. Late in the afternoon of 7/25 I received an email that my reservation was being canceled because they have no queen rooms available. I called right away and spoke with Kathleen, who yelled at me and said "sorry, but I just found out about this and there's nothing I can do." I asked for the manager or owner and she said that they would call me tomorrow. A little too late if you ask me; we were supposed to be there tomorrow. Mind you, there was a motel up the street that was cheaper and available when I booked this room, but I chose to pay more because of my loyalty to them. Obviously that loyalty is not reciprocated. That other room is no longer available. The Golden Gables' other property, that is approximately 9 miles away, has availability, but they never even offered that. Kathleen chose to yell instead. I'm more disappointed than I am mad. What I presumed to be a loyal relationship all of these years meant nothing to this establishment. Good luck to anyone that makes a reservation here; make sure that you have a backup plan because you probably won't have a room otherwise. read more

Strongly recommend! My husband and I stayed 3 nights the week of 4th of July, our first visit to North Conway in over 15 years! We were pleasantly surprised with the the immaculate grounds and very clean room with every amenity we needed! We stayed in a room with a King bed that was very up-to -date and had a mini-fridge and microwave, iron, and blowdryer. The private balcony was a bonus. This is going to be a very lengthy review. I have been coming to this hotel for 13 years. Even during Covid times I felt it was a place we could go and still feel safe. Last year was the first year we went while it was under new ownership. Original owners were wonderful. Little things were not as good. Cleanliness and general upkeep was not what it used to be. This year I booked our room as I always do and did this over 5 months ago. I asked for a specific room that we always get. I was told this room would not be available. I was offered another room and was given the room number that I would be staying in. I then informed my family members that were also coming up to ask for the room next to ours. Which they did as well. Now fast forward to this weekend. We showed up at 11 AM. I was very aware that my room would not be ready. But thought it would still be ok to check in and come back later for the key. Having done so for the last 12 years. The woman at the deck looked at me like I was crazy. She said to me "you are checking in now, I can't check you in the rooms are not ready". very rudely. Then proceeded to tell me they are short staff and can't tell me when it will be ready. I came back later after check in time. The new girl at the desk said I will check and see if your room is ready. She came back very quickly and if she was going to the room I was originally assigned I knew that she could have not gone to the room. I asked what room we were in. She told me a totally different number as well as a different section of the hotel. Through a long fight with the staff and management. "Telling me they got a new system."" What would you like me to do". Asking if my family could stay one night in one room then move but still not offering me my original room, asking if my own family could go in 2 separate rooms or a king and a cot with 4 people. They finally gave me a room in the section I was supposed to be in but not the top floor with a balcony that I originally asked for. One on the bottom floor with a window. Now mind you my family member that was next door to the original room said no one was in that room. I seen the key was still in the slot at the front desk. I will also say no pool towels when asked, rude staff overall to the other 7 family members that were staying there. It is party central. Police had to come but told the guest they had to stop laughing so loud and left. Appears others had their families come to use the pool but were not guest of the hotel. Could not enjoy pool or fire pit for this reason. I am very disappointed in the whole experience of this hotel and it appears the staff and owners do not care. I see a lot of negative reviews about a staff member named Kathleen. I am pretty sure she was one of the person I dealt with. I really think they need to get new employees who actually like their job and have a better attitude. Maybe someone that would say hello to you or have a nice day. I will be looking for a new place to stay and want to thank the staff at Golden Gables for ruining my weekend. read more

Really nice place, basic but really nice. We got a deluxe king room and it was nicely decorated and the pillows were fantastic and so was the bed. The room was VERY clean as well as the grounds/lobbies and such. The woman at the front desk was incredibly friendly and had good recommendations. The only thing I wished they had was on site breakfast, sadly the breakfast place across the street was closed due to Covid-19. In any rate, I would definitely recommend this place for a no frills but very clean and tidy place. They do have a pool and a hot tub outside. We picked the Golden Gables in for its proximity to North Conway and our climbing school. It worked out that the place is on the south end of town and very close to Eastern Mountain Sports - so it all worked out. The location is well within walking distance to a variety of places to eat and things to do (i.e. shopping, cinema, etc.). Bottom line, the place is clean, priced well, and the service is friendly. We booked online and check-in was super easy. No fuss, and a matter of getting the key from the front desk. They use keys, not key cards. Golden Gables is an older place... the linen covers are old, polyester. That aside, the place was great and provided us with all we needed. Endless supply of hot water, cable TV on a flat screen, and a place to crash after a long day of climbing. Aside from the bed and TV, the room comes with a small fridge, desk, sofa, coffee table, and lighting. Golden Gables has coffee in the morning... that's it... no breakfast, continental or otherwise; but food is close (just not included). We booked a single room (3.210). It was clean and cleaned daily. This room does not provide much of a view. It faces adjacent to the valley, but during our stay we could look out into a quad area and see a big lighted Christmas tree which was nice. Checking out was easy, but it could have been easier if I could just leave... that's what happens when you use real keys still. All in all, the experience was good, and the place was always clean. Stayed here while hiking in the White Mountains. The room was VERY clean, spacious, modern and comfortable. Nice grounds as well. We didn't use the pool since there was always a crowd and many children playing. Eating out was not an easy thing to do due to Covid and the crowds at local restaurants were horrible. We were glad to get take out and come back to the room to eat. They also had tables outside on the grounds to eat, and a patio area with table, chairs, and a firepit. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room, which I'm assuming was due to Covid19 restrictions? If we're back in the area we would definitely stay here again. read more

We have stayed at the Golden Gables when visiting North Conway for about 20 years and have never been disappointed. The rates are very reasonable, the rooms clean and the atmosphere very relaxing. Locally owned and every time we come, they are working on another improvement. This visit they added new table and chairs in the rooms with a new bed backboard. We always ask for a room in the back building on the second floor so we can relax on the balcony and read. Playground, BBQ, benches, heated pool, hot tub and nicely landscaped. Friendly staff that make you feel like family. Free Wi-fi. Almost forgot about the in-room refrigerator and microwave. I hate picking a new hotel because you just don't know what you're in for until it's too late. Yelp to the rescue of course, but still, there's a roll of the dice. Thankfully the Golden Gables delivered and as a result we'll be back. Even though the approach to Golden Gables isn't the most rustic (it's directly across from D'Angelo's sandwich shop on the main drag of No Conway), once you are headed to your room, you are instantly cut off from the traffic on the main drag and are in a quiet grassy area with an inground pool, patio area with a gas grill and a walled in seating area around a fire pit. There's even a large climbing structure for the kids. Then...the Conway Scenic Railroad rumbles through the back of the property. Wave if you want to, ignore if you don't. Sound good? It did to me too! Definitely a nice surprise. Our room was generously sized and impressively clean. Bathroom was stocked and even the deck area (we were on the 2nd floor overlooking the back yard) was without leaf litter or dirt. Whomever the cleaning crew is, they deserve a medal. As a bonus, the front desk people are also friendly and helpful. What I enjoyed the most is that despite the Golden Gables being one of many strip motels up and down the main drag, it's as charming and relaxing as some of the larger and far more expensive resorts. The pool/patio area and the train have a lot to do with that but there are other smaller factors that add up to make this place a gem. read more

Great flatscreen HD TV. Bathroom was very spacious and the water pressure perfect. The maid service was very professional. We opted for the ski and stay package- absolutely to way to go if you want to ski because it's the most affordable option. I was researching different packages versus getting discounted tickets at work, and this package was by far the best price! No issues whatsoever with the tickets- they were in our room waiting for us, no standing in line at Attitash to buy them or pick them up. As for the customer service, it was top notch. We drove in late Friday night from Boston after work and did not arrive until 11:30pm. My boyfriend called the Inn to let them know about our late check in, and they were more than accommodating. They left our keys for us in a secure envelope since the front desk would not be open, and they also left a nicely detailed and personalized welcome letter, letting us know where to find our room and where to park. There was more than enough parking right in front of our room, we let ourselves in without any issues and found our ski tickets on the desk waiting for us. So easy. After deciding we were going to take a short weekday mini vacation up to North Conway with some friends to visit Storyland, the quest for a decent cheap hotel began. There are so many places to choose from in North Conway depending on what type of amenities you are looking for. My best friend booked her room at Golden Gables and told me that a friend had stayed there and was very pleased. Although there were some more common places I wanted to try, I figured why not, then we'll all be at the same place. I was not sorry. Golden Gables is right on Route 16, across from D'Angelo, and about 1/4 mile from the Tanger outlets. The grounds are extremely well kept and pretty and the staff was nothing but polite and accomodating. The hotel consists of 3 separate buildings, including double rooms, queen rooms, king rooms, suites and even some jacuzzi rooms. No restaurant on site, but they did have a pool, jacuzzi, laundry room, vending machine, ice machine, and a decent playground. All rooms have either a ground floor patio or private balcony. The older 2 buildings had front and back entrances, all opening up to the back of the hotel overlooking the pool, playground and nicely kept grounds...with plenty of grass to run around or just hang out. The rooms were nice. We had a double queen room that was on the back side of the hotel away from the busy highway and we heard no noise what so ever. None from the highway or the rooms on top of or next to us. The rooms looked recently re done in neutral colors. There was a tv w/cable, refrigerator and microwave, large closet, table and chairs and a very large, very clean bathroom with marble countertops...and one sink. Shower was great. HOT water...since I like a very hot shower! The carpets and floors were all very clean and well kept and the room did not smell like a hotel room, which was nice. We had a ground level room, so we had a small patio area with 2 chairs and a table. The room also had a wall mounted air conditioner with a remote, that we kept on all night with no noise at all. Price was about $150/night. I was very pleased with my stay here. Not only does it have the amenities I like, its close to everything North Conway has to offer, is family friendly, very clean and only about 15 minutes from Storyland. I can recommend Golden Gables with 100% confidence that you will be satisfied too! read more

I was going to put just 4 stars due to the fact that we could see the beautiful scenery of the White Mountains through the gap between the door and the door jam of our room, but our experience with the concierge was priceless. Despite my mother's impressive haggling skills we were disappointed with not getting the AAA discount for our 1-evening stay. Moved by compassion/amusement, he acquiesced by giving each of us a voucher for a free medium blizzard at the local DQ. (Incidentally, the value of the blizzards for the four of us was equal to or exceeded the AAA discount for our rooms...) It did hurt a tad when he flaunted the lovely 2 bedroom suite, complete with fireplaces and kitchen, but didn't want to meet us halfway on the price as he thought that we would make a mess in the kitchen. Little did he know how domestic-resistant each of us is. He redeemed himself yet again by tolerating my mother's multiple calls that night by misdial and/or intimidation of ice-seeking, even getting the ice for her. Seattle's Best coffee in the AM is an excellent choice and put me into the 5 star range, again despite the accusation that my mother was not really my mother, and that my sister and her friend were actually twins (they aren't). The room has NO ODOR! No heavy cleaning product, or worse!!! Huge sink/vanity. Granite and the bathroom was immaculate. No broken tiles, brightly lit! The room.
