We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a neighbour, to enjoy a birthday party which coincided with mother's day. It was clearly a popular location.
The premises presented well, and the layout of the carvery was good - in fact, the buffet looked very impressive. However, while the starter and pudding were of a good standard and deserving of 3 stars, we found the main course carvery to be a bit disappointing - the beef and turkey were a little too dry. The beef was quite chewy. In fairness, it could have been due to the amount they needed to prepare, as the place was booked solid.
While the staff were very pleasant, we found that the price for a self-service lunch was on the high side. I would have expected waiter service for that price. We even had to order and fetch our own drinks.
Cost, per person, for self service carvery (3 courses), was £28, including a pint of beer, no coffee.
I will probably visit again, when there are fewer eating there, to get a better idea of how their standard when not under the sort of intense pressure they were experiencing when we visited. read more
