We went on the opening night with the Burger Club free burger offer, so that may have biased me a little bit, but I loved it. The decor is minimalist but kinda fun, and despite the high ceilings the place is not as loud as you would expect. The burger meat was good and more importantly, it was cooked just how I ordered it (medium rare). I had the Byron, which comes with streaky American bacon, among the most authentic I've had since coming to the UK. I also recommend the Chilli burger if you like hot food, it's served with sliced green chillies and a chipotle sauce, and was very tasty. The onion rings were a bit greasy to my taste but the skin on chips were very good, as were the appetizer tortilla chips (a nice change from the Doritos everywhere else seems to serve) and the guacamole and salsa were both nice and fresh. The only other appetizer available beside the tortilla chips is olives, which are nice enough but oddly out of place. They serve A&W root beer, which while not my top choice in the US is still nicer than many. My boyfriend got the Oreo shake, which was nice and thick and very good as well. The brownie was very good and served warm with vanilla ice cream on top and the white chocolate cheesecake was also tasty, creamy and not nearly as sweet as cheesecakes have a tendency to be.

Zomgomgomg! Proper burgers have escaped London and are heading north!…read more Having been to Byron in both Bloomsbury and Covent garden on several occasions, I knew what to expect and was pleased to see that Byron has made the journey north without losing any of its quality and variety. This is a very welcome addition to Leicester Highcross, and is right next door to John Lewis for maximum accessibility. I love the rough-hewn, rustic, warehouse industrial-style decor with it's exposed AC ducting and wooden beams. The staff appear to be quick and efficient on first impressions, but do double-check your order as it can be quite noisy and you wouldn't want to be delivered a Peroni when you asked for a Dead Pony! There's a good variety of drinks including a really sour fresh lemonade and decent milkshakes. Beers and bourbons are well represented and there are several very nice craft beers of varying styles. And the food? Yes. Have it! Come! It's very, very good. But still quite a large portion. You do not need fries each as one just stretches between two. But you should skip the normal fries and try the courgette fries - they're very nice! Burgers are lovely sweet, juicy patties of quality meat. But please, don't spoil them by having them well done? A good burger should be cooked medium or ideally med-rare. Just ask for how you like it, they will do it. A look out for that juicy dill pickle too! Super tangy and crunchy, just how they should be. I can't fault this place after my first visit.

The tables downstairs are a little too close for my liking. We went upstairs and found a cute window table, overlooking the alley below. We started with a pot of tea and debated the large menu for a while. I opted for the Caspian breakfast and my husband ordered the pork pie with a side of chips (fries). The presentation on both was great. I wanted to love the food, but it was just okay. The Caspian breakfast was a waffle with sweet cream cheese, topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs, caviar eggs and sliced avocado. The waffle and poached egg were cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the sweet cream cheese and ended up taking that off. The avocado looked pretty, but tasted underripe. It also came with toast. My husbands pork pie was okay. It tasted like a summer sausage in a flaky pastry. It came with a side salad with Stilton cheese and walnuts, which was also just okay. The server was very friendly and prices were reasonable. If I lived here, I would definitely try again, but I would order different foods.

Fear not - Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms has preserved the traditional quaintness of a B&B in a way that caters to anyone and everyone, and it's absolutely excellent. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tucked away in a side alley, the location of Mrs. Bridges is as much a landmark as anything in Leicester, and once you step inside you'll understand why. The most comfortable of settings includes various tea rooms on two levels as well as an outdoor seating area that I was able to enjoy on what was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. It was crowded at 1030, but I was still able to have a seat right away and service didn't lag. I can't stress enough how fantastic the atmosphere at Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is, and loved that even school age children seemed to really enjoy and appreciate it along with the expected adult crowd. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? £6.50 is a beautiful price for French toast with bacon and maple syrup with a pot of tea for an additional £1.85. As you can see in the picture my portion was hearty and I was more than satisfied at the end of the day with what would have easily cost me £12 in London. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'm not entirely sure whether the atmosphere or the fact that it was a beautiful day just made everything taste better, but my french toast was amazing even while being as simple as can be. There was nothing fancy here but there didn't need to be, and I noticed as I was sitting down that a steady stream of people were coming in for sandwiches to go that everyone was raving about (and kudos for having special sandwiches that rotate). There are some meals that you really can't even put a finger on with respect to what makes it so good, and this was one of those meals. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is a well known Leicester establishment whose appeal could possibly be bottled and expanded, but for now it's a brilliant gem in the center of England that I'd gladly visit daily. Star Granted.

My personal faves are the Cha-Cha Chorizo starter and the Blazing Bird spicy chicken & chips but I can also recommend the Fajitas! What's more, Happy Hour means certain cocktails are 2 for 1 between 12-7.30pm and ALL DAY Sunday - Wednesday! Yay it's Monday so that's two big Long Island Iced Teas for me . Why not 5 stars, well it's often busy and hard to get a table and the prices are bit higher than I think they should be otherwise it'd be full marks! All of it is very good, the portions tend to be satisfying, and there's a nice spread of reasonable appetizers as well as entrees. New dishes are added regularly, most recently the super delicious Pollo con Chorizo and the Camarão de Calabaza. The guacamole is also great, and the lunch menu has several well priced options. But happy hour is the real standout with two for one deals on their cocktails. Only drawback is service can be a little slow. Friendly, but slow. (Do be advised that while the address Yelp has listed is correct, the current map is not. This restaurant is not by the Cathedral, it's about a five minute walk from there on Belvoir a little bit up from where it meets Granby.)

They instantly made us welcome even though there were 8 of us including 4 children. It wasn't busy so maybe they had time to give us lots of attention or maybe they are just good at their jobs. Once we'd been seated and ordered drinks the children seemed to be having problems choosing from the menu so we were asked if they'd like to make their own pizzas - of course the answer was "yes". Whilst the grown-ups relaxed reading the menu in peace and quiet and weighing up the merits or rissotto, pizza and pasta dishes, the children were taken to wash their hands, given hats and then helped to make their pizzas. The pizzas are cooked in a huge open pizza oven at the back of the restaurant so you can see your pizza puffing up and the cheese melting. My rissotto was yummy and the other grown-ups were equally happy with their dishes but what made this meal really specially was the way all the staff in this posh looking restaurant treated our children as welcome guests.
