Met my daughter for a late breakfast. Cute homestyle place with ample parking. Pricing is very reasonable. I got perfectly cooked over medium eggs, potato pancakes (comes with sour cream and applesauce on the side) and rye toast. My daughter got chocolate chip pancakes (huge), egg whites, bacon, and hashbrowns. So many choices!! They serve breakfast & lunch and there was a steady stream of folks cycling thru. This is a great local place for breakfast/brunch. The staff is excellent. The portions are large. It's predictably good every time I've went. I have only had breakfast so I cannot speak for their lunch. I usually get omelets and theirs hold up to my expectations. Good prices too. There is sometimes a bit of a wait but plenty of outdoor shaded benches. I'd recommend this place. read more

The ambiance is super cute here and is definitely your traditional diner! It gets very busy but the service is great and very quick. The hash browns were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, and the biscuit was super flaky. The omelet was pretty good, though I wasn't a huge fan of the American cheese in it and the eggs could have been a bit fluffier. Usually frequent the golden bear for a very long time for breakfast n usually ordered biscuits n gravy with eggs and or sausage links.. I slowed way down going in there because they changed their link sausage to fatter ones. Really hated them. Not the same plus a couple times I ordered them( fat link sausage) , they were raw in the middle loved the old smaller link sausage ... bring them back please but other than that rest of the food was great n service is slays great . read more

After visiting Golden Bear recently and enjoying our Breakfast my wife and I stopped in again today for Breakfast. We ordered a Strawberry Waffle and Biscuits and Gravy and were impressed with the freshness, taste and portions as well. We were met with a smile; the service was prompt and attentive. Upon receiving our food our waitress informed us that a regular customer [Brad] had paid for our meals, what an incredible surprise. This wonderful gesture was very uplifting for both of us. Dealing with a life-threatening illness for the last 3 years [Still Fighting] his kindness was a very welcomed blessing. Brad, hopefully you see this wherever you are, Thank You, my wife and I are very grateful for what you did, we will be sure to pay it forward at some point when we visit the GB again soon. read more

Great little place hidden in the back of a strip mall. Everyone here was so nice from the waitstaff to the cashier. Went in on a Sunday morning and the place was packed to the brim but still sat us quickly and it was very evident there were a decent amount of regulars that would keep coming back. My coffee cup didn't run dry or 1/2 down for the entire meal. The food came out quick and you can tell those line cooks were turning and burning from the constant in and out. Portion sizes were large and not a place you leave with any doubt of being full. The bagel was nice and crispy, eggs were right consistency, prob 6-8 slices of ham on there and hash browns cooked to a golden brown to go with it. Wife got the big bear French pancakes which are pancakes coated with French toast batter. I got a couple bites of these and they will be on my plate next time I'm in 5/5 would recommend to a friend! read more

Looking for a different place to meet Deb for lunch and this place popped up in the search so here we are. Really cozy, mom and pop feel. Large menu with the diner favorites both breakfast and lunch. I ordered some fried pickles to start. Really good. They were spears and I usually prefer chips but the brininess of the pickles and the breading made for a great tasting bite. I then ordered the Cheeseburger club. Delicious. A little messy to eat but good sandwiches should be right? All of the flavors of a burger but into triangles like a club. Deb had the chicken salad sandwich. Nice flavors and a large portion. Over all a sold diner with great food at great prices. read more

Great old vibe diner/lunch spot located in a tiny strip mall on 66th. A little worn establishment with friendly folks, nice Monday-Friday breakfast specials and good menu choices. Not a breakfast type of person so I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and chose a salad as the side. The salad was the freshest romaine, tomato, cucumber and red onion salad I've seen for like... forever. Grilled cheese was tasty too. (A bit surprised to be charged $1.00 for a slice of tomato on the sandwich but not really) Service was spot on with just enough attention. Free parking. read more

The service is decent and every person that walks past your table carries a pot of coffee when not delivering food. And, that brings me to the one complaint that I have.... the coffee is lousy! I got latkes at this diner. It seemed like they were frozen and not made in house. If you have hashbrowns on the menu, it's not that hard to make latkes. The over easy eggs were ok. Our food came out in a timely manor despite how busy it was. read more

It seems to me that I have already reviewed Golden Bear but here goes again...Excellent food and excellent service, this place is always packed and busy. I am a breakfast man so I nearly always order the western bowl that is loaded with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, sausage gravy, bacon, eggs and toast. It is always good! The cost of everything has gone up in the last year but this place didn't get that memo. In fact, I felt like I was transported back to the eighties for breakfast. Nothing new fangled on the Golden Bear menu but all the classics are available in perfect, like-new condition. My girlfriend ordered steak and eggs. (Whaaaaaaa)? She highly recommends and said the steak was "beyond pefect." She got an impressive looking waffle, too and killed it before I could try a bite. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs with an extra egg over easy, hashbrowns, rye toast and a half order of biscuits and gravy. (Shut up. You're not my mom). The biscuits are spectacular, the eggs were done perfect, the hashbrowns, which I seldom order because no one knows how to get them right, were nicely scattered and golden brown. I'm not sure why breakfast restaurants have such a hard time buttering toast but, as I'm sure you've experienced, it usually comes with a bit of butter slapped right in the middle of the slice. The Golden Bear actually butters that whole piece of toast and that touches my heart more deeply than cholesterol ever has. Service was good but not over the top. It was busy but there was no wait and it was not obnoxiously loud inside. Can't wait to walk this meal off so we can come back for more. read more

Beary Good Golden Bear has been around for many years and they have a lot down pat. The place is usually busy and the staff is efficient. The coffee is good and the eggs are, well, eggs. The French toast is pretty good. The downfalls are the grits and ham. The grits are a little more flavorful than most similar restaurants, but the texture is soupy. Grits should be drier and slightly crunchy. The ham is flavorful but has a spongy texture. Prices are OK. I still can't find a breakfast place in central Pinellas that gets everything right. read more
