This is an amazing French Restaurant. We went for breakfast..I had the bacon, egg, cheese croissant. It came with fruit. I couldn't finish it. The owners are a husband wife couple. She's the chef and he's manager/waiter. Reasonable prices and delicious food. This is hidden in a little (old) shopping plaza. Inside is clean and bright. The other restaurants in the plaza are Olga's (authentic old-time diner with great breakfasts), and a donut shop that makes wonderful donuts and serves chinese food the rest of the day! read more

Super nice folks will serve you delightful French goodies while you watch French pastries being cooked on the telly - enjoy the time the service is paced to enjoy the food and company. It looks like Jerome sold his business. They have most of the same items on the menu, but it's just not the same as it was. I'm not sure if Jerome instructed them on his techniques or if he only gave the recipes. I assume the latter which is unfortunate. The food is alright, but of course we miss Jerome. The croque monsier looked like it may have been cooked in a toaster over rather than pan fried. The frittata wasn't very fluffy. We had to remind them a few times to bring our drinks. The redeeming qualities are the cappuccino was delicious and the pastries are still wonderful. read more

It's been awhile since last we flew with Jerome. Quite frankly it'll be the last time we do too, especially since "Jérôme lui-même" flew the coop! The French, meanwhile, call French toast "pain perdù," or lost bread. That's the perfect metaphor for the service and the sad excuse of a panini sandwich we decided to split: totally lost! First: a whole crew of new faces in there aside from Jerome's wife/sister/whatever she is. Another French man along with at least three other people running around performing table service by committee. None of 'em seemed to have a grasp of what they're doing either! Perdù! One of 'em was a young Hispanic fellow who had nary a clue as to the finer points of service. He comes along to tak our order: two cups of French onion soup and their "ciabatta bread sandwich," split between the two of us (ie extra plate). Then he asks if we want any pastries or dessert items. Did I ask for any? No... Meantime as the table of four next to us was getting their food, the order was totally messed up and didn't even come close to making it outta the kitchen together. When the stuff finally came out, our dear fellow just hands it off directly to the customers and then directly hands him a fork. The rest of the committee just runs around the table a few different times with much the same inept service gaffes. Tres perdù! So another of the committee walks by and refills our water. We casually ask where our soup is. It had been nearly 15 minutes, and per usual soup normally would come out first. So maybe five minutes AFTER she said she'd check, out comes our boy with said pôtage. He doesn't say a single word and just plops 'em down on the table...no presentation, no nothing. Off he went. Well, the soup is nowhere near as delicious as it used to be. Broth was weaker and nowhere near as earthily rich as it normally is. It even had a slightly astringent taste to it. Not bad, but nowhere near how Jerome usually makes/made it. Tant perdù! Last straw was the so called ciabatta sandwich, which came along a few minutes later. Fresh mutz, prosciutto pesto, and sliced tomato pressed on a ciabatta roll. $11.95 for one lousy slice of prosciutto and two bland slices of tomato with some bland, blah, nondescript mozzarella?! There was not even a hint of pesto on the sorry excuse for bread either. I got no basil flavor whatsoever! When I looked at the bread itself, I saw not even ANY green whatever. Pesto is green, of course. Apparently the sandwich maker is kinda in the green side too if he can't read the damn menu! Beyond that, the ciabatta roll itself was doughy, soft, nearly stale and not a bit of crusty crunch! The sandwich as a whole not well pressed or put together very well at all. The roll smelled of whatever oil they coat the press with too. Quite frankly, I felt cheated to put it quite politely. Accompaniment of their homemade shoestring fries was at least good. Did I mention that the sandwich was brought out by the French guy? We also had to ask him for the second plate THREE times before he understood what we meant (and twice for ketchup). Remember we were splitting the sandwich?! Apparently that bit of information got "perdù aussi," i.e. lost as well. Quite frankly our dear garçon "non-Jérôme" should be "honteux de lui-même" (ashamed of himself) for putting out and allowing that level of food as well as service. If he needs the extra help these days, then perhaps he should find someone who knows "qu'est-ce qu'ils foutent," or WTF they're doing. One other oddball gaff is the fact that two painters were replastering and repainting the entrance overhang of non-Jerome's "petit cafe/pâtisserie." Drop cloths, scaffold, rollers and assorted crap jostling with people trying to get in, or better yet: out! Whose bonehead idea was it to do that during brunch hours on a Saturday?! If that decision was made by "non-Jèrôme," then I'd say the new boss is the most "perdù" of 'em all. If you really think this place is worthwhile anymore, then that's fine. However after all those gaffes and the lesser quality of food, my own words of advice to anyone contemplating "flying with Jerome," or whoever the hell is running the place these days, is: "Tant pis!" For those here who don't understand French, that means "Never mind." read more

This restaurant is a new ownership, Chef/Chez David!! We love this French Bakery so much we went twice already. Everything is great! Almond croissants are yummy and crispy. All deserts looks good. What a treat without have to travel outside of Clearwater to enjoy delicious pastries and french food when dining at Flying with Jerome!! Flying with Jerome serving breakfast, brunch and light lunch selections; pastries and cakes can be order for dine in or take out. My friends and I have visited the cafe multiple times - the staff and quality of food and drinks are on point. My favorites are the egg Benedicts, hot chocolate, all the sweets #DessertFirst! I just moved to the area and was looking for an authentic patisserie. Background: my family used to own bakeries, and I'm very opinionated and picky...and most bakeries serve garbage. I've ordered here three times and LOVE IT! Then I read the other reviews and saw that the recipes are from the former owner and he has a new place. I drove to Jerome's new place twice, and ordered 5 pastries at each location to compare. All of the recipes are Jerome's at both places, and they are mostly excellent. It takes so much work to run a bakery and both locations are great...we are lucky to have them in our town. That being said, the vanilla eclair and especially the apple tart that you'll find here were significantly better in taste and presentation than anything I tried over there. I can't speak to the full menu, but the pastries are really wonderful here and I have to resist going daily. Sometimes I lose the fight. read more

We also had the quiche which was $8.50 and tasty but not overwhelming. Menu is rather limited compared to other breakfast stops but enough for everyone to find something. Omelettes are around $10-$12. Drinks: Coffee/Espresso/Latte drinks are around $3-$4. Service: Friendly and busy on weekend mornings. Ambiance: The seating area is small and can get crowded. Take Out: They have a pastry display case with baked breakfast selections and desserts. Parking: Plenty! Still five stars worthy and I've eaten more of the menu. I now drive thirty minutes to get here and I do so lovingly, because it is that good. Here are a couple menu items I have tried since my original visit. TL:DR - get some sort of croissant and the homemade french fries! Almond croissant - I get this every time. It is monstrous and sweet. This is more of a gooey croissant than a flakey one. Make sure you ask them to heat it for you, because it makes it infinitely better and I learned they don't automatically do this. Chocolate croissant - I liked the almond croissant better, but my sister liked this one better. It is a flakier croissant and the chocolate has an almost nutella like quality to it in terms of texture. Croissant french toast - it will give me diabetes, but I love it. One of my favorite things on the menu. Quiche - When you feel carbed out, the quiche helps balance this out. I had one with goat cheese and it was superb. The french fries are made in house so make sure you get them! Smoked salmon and brie omelet - Same idea with the quiche, when you start feeling like you're on a carb overload, this is a good balance. They add a good amount of smoked salmon and brie in it. Tropezienne - The only thing I've ever disliked here. The brioche bread tasted stale. I will definitely avoid this from here on out. I wish I lived closer but then I would weigh ten pounds heavier. I guess it is a trade off. read more

Who would've expected a cute little French cafe in the middle of a strip mall. Well... This girl, but only because of all the other yelp reviews. Came for breakfast on a weekday-- I had never been before, but my sister had and told me just how delicious it was. So we made the trek and to her surprise, the restaurant was completely packed! We took the last table available, which always makes you feel like a champ. We started with the almond and chocolate croissant. The almond croissant was obviously made with almond paste/meal which is always nice, but it honestly wasn't my favorite. It was a little too sweet and while the paste makes it dense, it didn't have at least a little bit of flaking on the top that I would expect. However, the chocolate croissant was pretty good! Food-wise, I continued on the trend of croissants, getting the egg croissant sandwich with smoked salmon. It. Was. So. Good. The egg was cooked to perfection-- a little runny so that when you bit in the yolk oozed. The croissant was flaky and delicious, and who ever doesn't love smoked salmon? For first-time visitors, I highly recommend-- then you get to try both the pastry and get a sense of the cooking. Service was fast and friendly-- I ordered a coffee and was constantly getting it refilled. At the end of the meal, I was stuffed and satisfied. This place was sold and has a much lowered standards from when Jerome was baking. My son and I ordered croissants we have emnjoyed often in the past. They were noticibly lower quality. They heated them for us, and probably microwared, since they were soft and soggy now. Other items not heated were not the same as the very high standards of Jerome, sadly. A few past favorite pastry items (especially Italian cream cake) are no longer being made. Very disappointed. Won't likely return. read more

So we came here based off a recommendation from a friend, but didn't know that the ownership had changed (it is actually now called Chez David). The friend claimed it was one of the best omelettes they ever had, so my husband ordered the four cheese omelette, which I believe is the one they said they ordered, and I ordered the croque madame. The omelette honestly was just really sad and subpar. It was something I could have made at home, and my omelette making skills aren't particularly refined. It was basically just egg folded over some cheese which wasn't even completely melted. The croque madame was better, but the bread was soggy. The side salads that came with the dishes were not fresh at all. I also ordered a plain croissant to see how it was since people have claimed it's the "best croissant they've had" and it really was not impressive at all. They also charged us 50 cents each for 2 butter pats that I asked for because we got toast with the omelette!! What kind of place charges you for butter?! It wasn't even fresh butter, it was the prepackaged kind that you get at DINERS. I was shocked at this and honestly that in itself is probably going to prevent me from ever going back here again. The only thing that is saving this from one star is the pear tart I got to go, which was decent, but honestly not even the best I've had. It's kind of sad that this place is supposed to be an authentic French experience but it comes nowhere close (and I lived in France for 8 months). read more

It's really unfortunate with what has happened to this place. We've been big fans of FWJ for many many years. However it's nothing like it used to be. The new owner has kept the same menu but the quality and care put into the food and service has totally diminished. Usually at 10:30am on Sunday it would be packed, but was barely half full. Sat at a table and waited over 20 minutes for someone to come by and take our drink order. We saw other people come in and have the same experience, some just walked out. The French onion soup, which previously was the best I've ever had with a dark and rich taste is now a pale broth and lacks any depth in flavor. The club croissant sandwich was brought to our table and if the sandwich could have made a sound, it would be of a sad trombone. One slice of ham, wilted lettuce, missing tomato, no Swiss cheese but instead American. We got some croissants to go hoping it would turn the visit around. Sadly they were not flaky at all and the insides were soggy. It's kind of heartbreaking as we always loved this place but after today we won't return. I was traveling with friends through Clearwater and looked up a nice breakfast place. I love French food so this place made my eyes light up. Everyone was so nice there and we are so glad we got there when we did at 10ish (am) because it started getting super busy! I ordered a croque monsieur with a cup of French onion soup. We decided to try out this French Bakery on 24th just a day before Christmas for breakfast. Covid-19 protocols were followed and it was a clean cafe. We loved the cafe and almost everyone was looking for sweets. For breakfast we started with Double Expresso and Chocolate Milk then ordered vegetable omelette with fresh fruits, salmon and bri omelette with fresh fuits, toasted butter croissant and elephant ear in sweet. We got our food quickly and we didn't have to wait much for the food. Chocolate Milk: The chocolate milk was good and hot. 3.5/5 Double Expresso: Double Expresso was good in taste and loved the coffee. 4/5. Omelette Vegetable with Fresh Fruits: Omelette Vegetable was good and tasty loaded with vegetables. The fruits that came with Omelette were fresh and perfectly cut. 4/5 Omelette Salmon Bri: The salmon bri omelette was good and fully loaded with Salmon. We loved the omelette. 4/5. Butter Croissant: Butter Croissant was toasted and was crunchy and very good in taste. Loved every bite of it. 4/5. Elephant Ear: The elephant ear was sweet in taste and amazing. 4/5. Just popping in here to say again that they have the best authentic croissants in town. Made with real butter and no vegetable oils. Buy some extras and take them home. Toast them for a sandwich with a little extra butter. The other day I made one with a little salmon and some melted manchego cheese. You can't beat it. I've been coming in the last few days picking some of these croissants up daily. The staff are so friendly. It's always a pleasure to interact with them. Wow - this was simply the best croissant I've ever had! I've been meaning to come here for about two years and I finally made it here this past weekend. I ordered the croissant egg sandwich with fries and every bite was exquisite. Ughh...I just can't believe it...how good it was. The dishes are very decently priced, about $8-$13, I think. And the cream donut!! It was absolutely perfect in every way! Fluffy, light, delicious - I'm drooling right now thinking about it. The service was great, the place was clean. Unfortunately, I wouldn't ever go back. Most of the food was pretty good but a couple of the dishes (which DON'T allow any substitutions or add ons), were just alright without being able to add cheese or a vegetable or meat of some sort. Chef, you're not that great, let people add simple things... we're not at a fine dining restaurant, we're at a diner! My MAIN issue is that we got sat and then didn't get a server to our table for OVER 20 minutes (the place wasn't busy). Other customers got sat and SERVED their food before we even talked to anyone. There was no apology. No care whatsoever. Most of the girls working were too young to care. The place was packed but we got seated in a few minutes. The coffee was decent as well. Definitely a place I'd return to. Recently went back to try this small French restaurant now named Chez David (for 4 months )on Belcher Road in plaza across from Big Lots. We like to support a local small business when possible especially when a nice couple are trying to be successful in getting clientele to return. The place after Jerome went downhill fast so we stopped going here. In our opinion, the quality is back again so we will be returning for breakfast during the week. We are fans of First Watch restaurants but prices continue to go up and often are so crowded and loud. This place has kept their similar menu which we like. The mushroom goat cheese quiche was delicious and surprisingly received such an extra large portion to take most of it home along with large side of fruit ( or salad or French fries option). Coffee was good and hot and prices reasonable. They again have a large bakery case filled with French pastries and croissants. Hubby said the bread pudding was very yummy. Stopped by for lunch on a Sat. Only two tables were full. A couple came in after us with a dog in arm and sat it at their table with them on the seat customers sit in. It whined throughout lunch. Food took over 20 min to come out. My bacon sandwich was ok. Bacon was fatty and not cooked well. Another couple wandered in with a large Doberman pincher and sat behind us. The waitress appeared afraid of the dog. It was blocking the path to the bathroom. We don't want to eat where dogs are allowed and won't be back. I went to Chez David (new owners and new name) the other day, and the food was fantastic. I had the country crepe and it was filled with mushrooms, ham and cheese. It came with a side salad with no balsamic vinegarette which was wonderful. The service is atrocious (they need an experienced server) and ambience is lacking. If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't come back. I wish they would play French music rather than 105.5. read more

This place has been in my bookmarks for a couple of years and I finally made HubbyStanks take me! Since it's near Bellaire in Clearwater it's a bit far for him as he's not crazy about breakfast. He was glad we made the trek. Truly 5 stars! I had to get the brioche French Toast that a lot of my yelp buds raves about. It didn't disappoint. I didn't even need syrup! The berry jam was enough and I didn't need much of that. Do yourself a favor and try it with nothing. It's that damn good! My son ordered a waffle with scrambled eggs and bacon. When the eggs arrived they were over medium. They looked so good that I didn't want to take them back. I instead asked them to just make my son's eggs and I'll eat the over medium eggs...my fave way to eat eggs...and barely anyone gets it right...Jerome not only cooked it perfectly, but they were seasoned perfectly!...just how I make them at home! No one has the audacity to season eggs, which I think is such a shame. I love this restaurant just for egg seasoning alone! Papi got the Norwegian because I told him he'd like it...and he loved it. I did too! the salad and mashed potatoes are a bold move for breakfast, but worked so well with the perfectly poached eggs and ciabatta! I can't wait to fly with Romy Rome again! read more

Authentic French cuisine at its best. Food this good makes it easy to drop the big five. Im not much of a breakfast person, a cup of good quality coffee in the morning is all I need to get by (most of the time). Flying with Jerome makes me want to fall in love with breakfast. The thing that caught my eye looking at the menu was the coffee. They offer Organic columbian joe. This was a good sign. Being that most breakfast joints normally serve that cheap watery brand, I was pleasantly surprised. My Cap was good btw. Cant go wrong with the Egg Norwegian, get it as is with the mashed potatoes and salad, it went well together with the egg and ciabatta. Don't forget the hot sauce. Overall it was a good spot, a diamond in the rough if you ask me. FWJ also sells French Wine and Fresh pastries. That and the coffee sets them apart from the rest IMHO, :) read more
