Loved this little shop. Friendly staff and a wide variety of sweet products and breads plus some grocery items. They do beautiful cakes that I would love to try. After a nice walk through Largo Park enjoying the holiday light display, we wanted a dessert. This is a little store with baked goods and desserts. There were plenty of options and I'm sure everyone could find something they like. My brother enjoyed his tasty cannoli. My daughter really liked the oreo trifle (?) in a cup. Sorry, I tried to like their tamales but they had no flavor. Got the molé- no good deep molé flavor, and green chile with chicken- salsa dripping out of corn husk leaving masa all wet and absolutely NO sabor! Moist masa is good, but not that!Maybe the chef had a bad day?? read more

I'm obsessed with Mexican cookies called Polvorones. They are a heavy, soft, shortbread crumbly cookie. I think they may originally be of Spanish origin but I have no idea. I do know they are delicious & the ones at this bakery did not disappoint. Now, I was the only white person at this bakery which I think is a good thing. The other folks shopping were helpful and I just followed their lead. You get a big silver tray, put on some gloves, grab a set of tongs, and go to town in the bread/cookie cases! If you want to support minority owned businesses I'd recommend this one for sure. Everything I tried was SO good & the prices are incredibly affordable. This place is a scam. They told me the tres leches cake for 40-50 people is a 16 inch cake and will be $83. I explained the design and send a photo and they said everything will be $83 but then after she took my order, they called back and said it would be an extra $10 to add four bows to the cake. When I got the cake not only the cake was smaller than they said, the bows also were made from thin balloon string not ribbon which is what we had agreed to. I paid either way because the people were rude and pushy and I just wanted to go home because I had already driven an hour and a half to get there. When my mom sees the cake she went back inside and asked if they could at least give me the $10 back because it had not been what we agreed to. They said no and didn't give me anything back. I explained I drove an hour and a half just to get the cake and they didn't do what they agreed to but they didn't care at all. I ended up making the bows myself with real ribbon and they kept my money. The owner was extremely rude on the phone and wouldn't refund us any money at all. When I got home I measured the cake and sure enough it was only 9inches instead of 16 inches around. I will never ever go back. This place is 100% a scam. read more

I have been going here for a few years to get cakes and pastries, they hands down have THE BEST rebanadas, it's like icing on top! We had ordered tamales for a party last night. The price was incredible and I was worried they would be tiny. They were not tiny, in fact, they were the thickest tamales I had ever eaten, and had a lot of meat in them. The prices here are unbelievable, but you do get what you pay for. If you're looking to load up on sweets for a kids party, go here. Kids won't know the difference between a true French Napoleon and the one you can get here. The best thing I had was the Tres Leches Cake, but I've had better of that as well. They also sell some food staples, sodas, trinkets, candy, and they make cakes. They have some party supplies and things, too. If you are having a party you can buy 10 sweet "breads" and get two free. I love a real bakery. When I happened to drive by this one, I immediately swung a u-turn and stopped in to check it out. All sorts of patties and delicious looking items that I never seen before. The owner was hands on and friendly. He pointed me to some items that turned out to be super fresh and tasty. They bake en mass and apparently lots of local restaurants and hotels use them as their go-to bakery. I will be returning one of these days. To see bags of flour and sugar, instead of plastic buckets of premade synthetic dough says a lot. Real bakers don't bake from buckets. Come to this bakery instead of supporting the big chain grocery store "fakeries." read more

The bakery is located in a strip center on the west side of S. Highland Ave. Its the same strip center where Eatz and La Pollera Colorada are located. After seeing some large bakery racks full of pastries going down the sidewalk, I had to follow them. On the left side of the bakery, there are freshly baked sweets and breads as well as refrigerated cabinets with lots of goodies. When I was there, their cake baker brought out a marvelous birthday cake with the movie 'Frozen' as it's theme. It was awesome. What you do is: 1) Get a metal pizza tray and a pair of tongs(stacks of both are provided under the pastry case) 2) Start piling the pastries that you crave on the tray. 3) Proceed to the cash register. 4) Go home and pig out! To my surprise the total came to around $6. That's about a $1 per pastry. I bought a variety of pastries from fruit filled to sugary puffed pastries. Other areas of the bakery offered lots of Mexican, Central and South American delicacies as well as some super sweet sodas. They also had freshly made tamales which I'm going to have to try. It's easy to drive by and miss this gem. Please give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Yes! Finally, I found a legitimate Mexican bakery in the area. My heart exploded with joy when I saw the listing and the photos. My partner and I drove to it and I just was crossing my fingers that it would not disappoint. And sure enough, it did not! This bakery has the classic and traditional Mexican breads and pasteries. They also make cakes for special occasions and have some ethnic snacks in the back corner. But the highlight is the bread. They have a great deal, buy 10 pieces and get 2 free. We purchased 7 pieces of bread for $6.34. DEAL! The Pan Dulce was so fresh and fluffy. Not overly sweet, but not bland. The staff was polite and available. Yay! Delicious, authentic fresh Mexican tamales. A tamales 3PK roja (red) or verde (green) chili are $3.59 with tax. They are wrapped in the corn husk and tightly wrapped in Saran Wrap and in a baggie. We buy a couple dozen. Eating some right away or storing in the fridge up-to a week or freezer. Pop in microwave for 2 minutes top with Frank's hot sauce or salsa. Yum! They're so good. read more

This is a 5-star neighborhood bakery. They have a great selection of breakfast pastries as well as Mexican specialties and their prices are very reasonable. They are cash and carry, so don't expect to sit and drink coffee - they have no tables at all. I emphasize neighborhood bakery, so don't go there expecting an upscale patisserie either. I found them looking for breakfast while my kitchen was being renovated. Most places are closed Monday and Tuesday, but I had a go-to place nearby. When that place changed its hours one Tuesday, I spotted the bakery and decided to grab something to tide me over. Their selection of pastries is impressive, but what really thrilled me was when I saw their tamales in the hot case behind the counter. If you don't know, tamales are a pain to make properly and they take a long time. In the end they are not fancy so they don't reward the bake with a big profit. Also, they are too messy to be finger food so they will never be very popular in our culture. However, they are a hearty traditional working-persons breakfast, and since they had a few left (at about 9:30am) and since the counter person said they were a specialty, I was determined to try one. I also grabbed a peculiar roll that was a small muffin wrapped by a ring of flaky pastry. In short, the tamale reminded me of those made years ago by a friend's mother (she spent about a week to make them once a year for the holidays). It stayed hot all the way home and onto a plate. The ones I had were pork with red sauce, but they also make cheese and a chicken with green sauce. Since they wrap up three together, it was more than enough for breakfast and it made a delightful change from eggs. I think it was about $3. Since then I've returned several times despite the fact that I need to pass through about 10 other neighborhoods to get there. I've also enjoyed their flan from the cold case - smooth-textured style rather than grainy, and a little firmer than ideal, but the flavor is delicately wonderful. Because of another review, I also brought home a tres leche moccha with walnuts that might not make it until dinner. I will be a steady customer from now on despite the fact that it is a bit of a trek. A couple of things that makes them special to me: 1. They work on great flavors and careful preparation instead of sugar, sugar, sugar (lots of bakeries, supermarket brands, and big chains - Panera, for example - are way too sweet for me). Of course, the kids' cakes may be different. 2. They have a great selection of unusual and different things, including a bunch I still need to try. Don't overlook the cold case. I love love love this bakery! Their tres leches cakes are amazing! They sell everything from fresh pastries, cakes, candles, and pretty much everything you would expect to find at a bakery. Aside from the cake, I also bought some pastries. Their pastries are to die for! I bought a donut that was extremely soft in the inside and just made perfectly. I don't think I would ever go to a chain bakery ever again! Although they are located about thirty minutes from me, it's totally worth the drive. As far as pricing goes, they are extremely reasonable. The woman behind the counter was really polite and was a great help. Our favorites were the fresh churros and the flaky fruit pastries, similar to turnovers. But maybe even better were the fresh tamales. When I was about eighteen years old, I was standing on a street corner in Tijuana, a man approached me and asked if I needed help because I looked lost. He was not a creep or anything he was genuinely concerned for my safety. I told him I was trying to find a bakery (I love Mexican pastry). He pointed me in the direction of the bakery I was looking for and taught me my first Spanish words. My love for flan and other sweet Mexican pastels (pastries) is still a motivating force in my travels. So when I discovered a Mexican Bakery only a few blocks from my house I was ecstatic. But they also sell tamales and have taken flan to a whole new level with the Flan Chocolate Cake. My son used to always ask me to bake flan for him, now he asks me to take him to this bakery because he likes their flan so much. If you have never been to Mexico and would like to sample a tiny bit of their culture give this place a try. read more

Although they were very attractive, they were devoid of flavor. Cheap fillings, and flavorless cake. I can't see the purpose of buying a treat who's only benefit is to look at it. Hard to find a good bakery in the Clearwater area. Hellas in Tarpon suffers from the same "Looks great but tastes like air" problem. We need a baker to step up and make dense chocolate cake, moist white cake, real fruit and custard filled pastries.
