I had the opportunity to stay here after Thanksgiving dinner last week. My brother and I were traveling from the San Francisco Bay Area, and were in need of an inexpensive place to stay the night. After researching motels close to Pollock Pines, we came across this little gem. Yelp reviews were sketchy at best, but my brother insisted on giving it a try because he "has had good luck in the past with places like this." After much "negotiation" between us about staying here, I reluctantly agreed. With very full stomachs, we made our way to the hotel in mild snowfall. The snowflakes rushing at the windshield in the dark put me into a bit of a trance - I was beginning to forget about the "iffy" motel we were about to check into..... Upon our arrival, we found the office, and checked in without incident. Were were informed that our room (room number 3), was actually in a different location - apparently there are renovations going on with another hotel, and we were actually staying there. Interesting. With increasing uneasiness, we drove down the road a bit to find our room. After taking a wrong road, and nearly getting stuck in the mud, we finally found it! Indeed, it appeared to be another hotel that was in the process of being renovated - the green pool in the parking lot did nothing to reassure me, however! We eventually found our room and opened the door..... Amazingly, the room was clean, and appeared to be relatively new! I was in shock! The carpeting, bedding, and furniture were clean and spotless. Likewise, the fridge and microwave were new! The real shocker was in the bathroom - the shower was new as well, with a very nice faux rock interior - amazing! The only negative was the complex heater/air conditioning unit. We're were able to figure it out, but I can see other people having a hard time with it - see pics. We both had a wonderfully quiet night, and in the am, we agreed that we had truly found a gem of a place to stay. I was very impressed, and would definitely stay here again! Maybe we got lucky, or maybe my brother is a genius - either way, it was a fantastic stay in snowy Northern California. read more

READ THIS!!!!!!!! This place was the worst experience I've ever had in a hotel. From the moment I got there she didn't give me the room as advertised that I payed for. She gave me a cheaper room and told me the other one was booked already. I decided just to keep the room because it was late and I was tired. I went to sleep and the next morning I stepped on four nails that were on the floor right when you walk into the bathroom. My foot started to bleed everywhere. I told the manager and he told me to nail them in with hammers, he said the "nails wernt that big" I will post photos of the nail but not my foot I did show the manager both. His words were "it's bs that I was worried about the nail I then pulled out photos of my foot and started arguing with me. After 30 minutes of arguing, he told me that we could have a different room for another night for free. I woke up the next morning and saw that he charged us for the room twice. With three different deposits. I will be contacting the health department because this place has many health code violations Never stay here and never bring your children read more

Definite one star. While the beds were decent for spring mattresses, the TV completely stopped working around 11pm and the jerk at the front desk wouldn't come out to take a look. The next morning, one of the cleaning guys came out to clean the room... a whole hour BEFORE checkout time. (11 AM) The guy barely spoke English and was insistent on cleaning even though we told him when checkout was and to come back later. Another thing we noticed was that the fire alarm in the room was very close to falling off the ceiling. If someone were to get hurt, the motel owner would have a hefty lawsuit on their hands. read more

Walking into the office was like walking into someone's armpit that hadn't been washed in a month. I didn't want to stay here. But emergency and mandatory evacuation from fire left no choice. You'd think the office lady would be a bit nicer to a family displaced by fire. But no. It's clearly about the pocket penny. The room (as you can see in the pictures) is absolutely disgusting. No need to write further about that. Just look! 10 am the next morning we have house keeping banging on the door. Check out is at 11. Why TF are you yelling to get in to clean?! The absolute worst experience I have ever had. My father pre paid for three nights and the check in took over 20 minutes. During that time the older gentleman who was checking me in was extremely rude while I was being as nice as possible. He asked me If I had a pet and I confirmed I did and he told me it would be an extra $75 for the time I was staying. I have family in the area so I was just going to drop my dog off with them, and then he berated me about my dog and threatened me with some kind of penalty charge then finally gave me my room key and told me it was for room 20 at the motel next door! I thought, okay that's weird, maybe they own both places. But no! That room was occupied! Then when I confronted him about it he told me I was a piece of sh1t!!! Now I'm left with no place to stay and I'm sleeping in my car. I wish I could give 1000 negative stars because this is absolutely awful. Unbelievably awful. read more

The room I stayed in had holes in the walls, but worse than that, when I called to ask about my deposit, the owner began to literally scream at me over the phone, calling me an illiterate, stupid American, and unintelligent, and a variety of other degrading names, all because I could not to understand him through his heavy and thick Indian accent. It was the worst experience I had ever had and I can't believe how abusive this man was on the phone, to a customer, no less. He wouldn't stop screaming at me for asking about the deposit, and I started crying. Please do not give these horrible people your money. Owner/staff rude! Found hair in my bed, she called me a lier told me its my character to be a lier, I had to buy my own pillow,blanket and towel because of the filth. I don't write negative reviews very often but I would say avoid this place if you have any sort of service animal and/or hope for decent service. As soon as I went to the window I could tell they could care less to provide half-way decent hospitable service. I went to open the office door, which was locked (due to Covid). The man working the desk was on the phone, saw me, but didn't motion he'd be right with me, stood there for over 5 mins while he finished his call, whatever, it's fine. When it came time to pay, I saw the price included a pet charge. I told them my dog was a service animal. He abruptly asked me what service my dog replies, I politely told him I don't have to say specifically what service she provides but that I have her ID card. HE WAVED ME AWAY WITH HIS HAND, and walked back to his room to watch tv. I flashed her card and he continued to wave me away, I simply couldn't believe it. Judging by the lack of cars in the lot and considering its Covid, you'd think they could use the business, guess not! We were booked online into the Mother Lode Inn, but had to check in @ the Gold Trail Motor Lodge. After checking in, I was asked if we'd rather stay at the Gold Trail. I said sure if the rate was the same, as there was construction happening @ Mother Lode. They were very nice & friendly. The room was nice, however using the bathroom was an experience. When I sat down, I startled as the toilet moved; every time after just became annoying. There was a microwave, coffee maker & fridge in the room, as well as a very nice TV. My husband loved the air conditioner & ran it all night. Overall we enjoyed our stay. read more

This place get - 5 stars from me on there website is $65 per night than you came and they ask for $100 plus $50 deposit after I sleep there for 5 hour from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. I go to do check out the Indian lady come and check the room she said "no dog here no deposit" I said "you see him yesterday and it's a service dog" plus I show her the dog ID she close the door on my face and didn't open it for me she act me like I'm garbage people I don't to why. I ask also to take more stuff from my room and she didn't open it for me. I recommend not to go this place the make my day bad plus stole $50 from me. read more

I strongly suggest guest read the reviews before booking these rooms. The operators own both Mother Load Lodge and Gold Trail motor lodge. Both my father and I searched for hotels in Placerville via a simple Google search on the drive from SoCal. The prices ranged between 70-80 dollars. We booked a room via Expedia clearly indicating there were 2 guests. The charge was 88 dollars after taxes. We explicitly put in the notes that we request 2 separate beds. Upon arrival we were asked to stay at the Mother Load Lodge because they didn't have two beds available at Gold Trail. We drove next store to check in. The total charge to my card was $157.80. They increased the price to $107.80 PLUS charged another $50 dollars deposit. The women was EXTREMELY RUDE and completely unaccommodating. It was to late (10:30pm) to dispute the charge and find some where else to stay. I gave them a two because the rooms were clean. read more

If I could give it zero, I would. Just checked out of this shit-hole not 3 hours after arriving. I was in town for one night Training for a new job and had the "pleasure" of booking here. It's just one night. It can't be that bad, right? WRONG. There was hair on the pillow cases (ALL of them) that did not belong to me. Upon inspection of the sheets, there was black residue smeared all over the inside. The shower was filthy and it made me itch just standing inside, and the questionable characters outside didn't make the place seem much better. I turned and booked it first chance I got. You can't expect much for $60 a night. So don't. This place is in the process of being remodeled so that added to a generally dumpy atmosphere. That said, due to the remodeling, there were few guests and it was quiet. The room was a bit shabby, but it was clean and it was spacious. The heater worked well, maybe a bit too well. That was key as it was pretty cold up there. All in all, we were happy with it given the super affordable price. read more

I would do zero stars if I could. First of all they charged us twice for one nights stay, two+ week later I'm still waiting for even a response from them. Upon arrival there was a group of boys playing corn hole and I had to wait about 5 minutes before kindly asking them to move so I could park (not the hotels fault but still annoying). Around 2 in the morning I woke up to 5 police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck. Bright flashing lights and absolutely no power in my room at all. This was my WORST - by far - experience I have EVER had at any establishment!!! The reason for one star is because I'm not sure I can do zero stars but my true rating is negative 7! Similar to others' experiences, I was told (by the extremely unfriendly owner) that there were no smoking rooms. Huh? He said I smelled like smoke!!! I haven't had a cigarette in years!!! Room 23 has a broken door & if not dead-bolted from inside you can just push door open w/ out use of a key. The room smelled musty & smokey- despite the $50 deposit required for smoking!! The furniture was from 6 decades ago - & not in a good way!!! NO internet connection in Room 23. If I was sitting outside in my car, it was ok - but when I complained & she came over, she watched me try to get online & when I couldn't, she said it must be my devices! Yeah, my BRAND NEW iPad & iPhone 7 won't let me connect to the internet. Right .... I would not have bothered writing this review if that had been it, but the topper was THEY ARE NOW RIPPING ME OFF!!!!!!! They are charging me for 2 nights when they CLEARLY KNOW that I was only there for one!! They can't even provide me w/ a receipt for the 2nd night. TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS!!!!!!! 2 words- Bed Bugs! When we reported our multiple bites and discomfort the staff took defense immediately and expressed zero sympathy. I was also told they "treat" their motel every month? I generally don't like the phrase "it is what it is", unless it's being used by a Zen Buddhist Monk, but in this case I have to admit, it applies. It ain't romantic, it ain't fancy, and it ain't a destination. It's a cheap ass (i.e. $60 a night) place to sleep if you need one in or near Placerville. Once you accept this and your expectations have been adjusted accordingly, then everything else about this place is a plus: it's super clean, the location is quiet yet convenient, and the owners are efficient and accommodating. I would give this place 0 stars if it were a option... I booked this hotel about a week before a stay and made sure it was ok that I bring my service dog. Upon arrival the owner stated that my dog would not be recognized as a service dog and I would have to pay to let her stay there. This is illegal as I had all of the documentation stating that she is, in fact, a service dog. When I told him that legally he cannot turn me away because of my service animal he told me to "get the f*** out of my hotel" and to "never challenge him." Then walked into his back Room and slammed the door.. I have never felt so disrespected and I have never been treated so badly. When I made the initial reservation through Expedia I wrote that we would check in late and we had one dog. We got an immediate response that said late check in no problem. Then one day after I could have canceled with no charge, we get a note saying there would be a $20 charge for the dog. Ok I understand but AFTER the date I could cancel for free? Then when we arrived and checked in I was charged another $50 which I was told was refundable. This should all be disclosed at the initial booking. The best I can say about the room is that it was clean. But it was very noisy from the paper thin walls. I heard People talking until 3 in the morning And there was a large gap under the outside door. Also no screens on the windows. We booked for two days and we only had one serving of coffee available. Horrible horrible horrible. Booked thru travelocity and went to check in. The woman extends no hospitality, basic customer service or even manners. She took major issue with my service animal, which I did provide proof of certification for. The woman proceeded to lecture me about how people lie about their service animals even after seeing my certificate. I left to take my business somewhere else because of her condemning and rude behavior and was still charged the full amount. I went back to get the room since I was going to be charged regardless and she refused to give me a room!! I have contacted Travelocity who also failed to help in any way. My time on the phone with Travelocity; 2 HOURS!!!!! No BS! Don't book with Travelocity either... Anyways; due to the hotels "policy"I wanted to confirm the late check in policy just Incase I needed it! And considering the entire area was pretty much sold out this last weekend I wanted to ensure the hotel wasn't "accidentally" over booked before i dragged my family 90min away.... Travelocity manages to miraculously get ahold of the hotel, they say late check ins after 10pm are charged a fee. Which is irritating because if the website stated the correct information we wouldn't be in this situation. Now Travelocity tells me they've contacted the hotel and as long as we're there before 11 we will still be checked in, no fee, no problem. OK cool. We arrive at 10:45pm (HOURS AFTER I HAD WANTED TO ARRIVE). It is what it is though, I just want to check in & get my kids in bed; not like it's 39 degrees outside or anything... The guy says I'm lying, I'm not there. I tell Travelocity to call back and connect our call. I explain to the guy I've been at the hotel for almost an hour and HE'S NOT THERE! Magically a half sleeping "lady" appears in her PJs, unlocks the door (doesn't extend any hospitality and open it)... I explain to her this is insane. I've been in the parking lot for an hour with 2 small children, its freezing outside. Question why nobody was there to check us in at 10:45 (clearly because they were sleeping; must be nice). We carry on & proceed with check in. My room reservation was CONFIRMED for $92.40. This "lady" says the room will be $153.70!!!!!!!!!!!! PLUS $50 charge for incidentals, (this part i was ok with; standard hotel procedure), gets credited back as long as you don't jack up their rooms. BUT $153.70, to stay HERE??? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! I said no way in gods green earth! ESPECIALLY not after the misery that has ensued just to get to this point. I booked a room at the Best Western Stagecoach for less than that right in front of her on my phone; told her; her response; "F&*K YOU" No no "lady" annnnyways... I get culture differences... but the hospitality industry does NOT know culture differences!!!!! These people should not operate a hotel!!!!! **Oh and, when Travelocity connected the call; the man also asked me "who are you? What do you want" wtf??? From the outside it looks like an unassuming motel, with neon signs and all. But don't let that fool you! On the inside the rooms are just as comfortable and clean as any large chain hotel. Recently renovated and well maintained. There's a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee pot in the room. The owner is very friendly. Slept great! Comfortable bed and pillows. While a lot of people stayed in folsom we researched the area and found this place. It was perfect for what we needed it for, a place to crash after the wedding The staff were friendly and even wrote down directions to the venue because they said the gps gets people turned around. Again, small room, old school tv with cable, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, one nightstand, small desk and chair and heat and air conditioning. Not fancy, but clean and comfy. I had paid for a night for my brother to stay this past summer...everything else was booked in town so I had no alternative. Within minutes I realized I had booked wrong night and immediately sent expedia a message to cancel and put down correct day. They tried but could not reach hotel. I tried calling motel directly, but no use. when I arrived to drop off my brother, I discovered that the motel we had reserved was not even open due to remodel. I found the 'owner' finally, who told me they own both the MotherLode and the Gold trail. I explained to her I had inadvertantly reserved the wrong night and she said she would not charge for the wrong night, just the one night my brother would be using. Wrong. She charged both nights. Checkout is 11 you need to leave!" paid a ridiculous amount for a room that was unclean an trash on the floor. This place is a dump. You have to check in at the adjacent hotel down the street, the Mother Load, first of all. Second, paying $97 for the king suite is a joke. Yes, there is a full kitchen, however the walls need to be painted, all of furniture including bathroom vanity looks like crap. There's "graffiti" scratching the tile above the kitchen sink area. And two full beds make up our king, separately. We had to rig the curtains just to get them to close. My mother's room's lamp wouldn't work. I gave her my throw just so she would sleep better knowing that was clean. I'm not sure how this is legal to rent out. GROSS!! read more

When my husband told me he booked at a cheap motor lodge, I cringed and expected a dirty place with an uncomfortable bed. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was not only clean, it was newly remodeled with good quality material. The towels, sheets, and pillows were of good quality. I recommend this place to anyone staying in the area. Deepak, talking of being honest. There was no discussion of a deposit I booked online. She charged the card $247 with no discussion if a deposit. $247-$52. is $195 deposit. If you were not crooked you wouldnt have charged my card because you have it on file. You know how you do everyone else so why is the receipt charging for three nights. The argument started when we waited an hour for a room that was being remodeled. Missing doorknobs painted over mold and being remodeled. We wanted a refund for everything. Then your wife says we are homeless white trash and so on. Its 11pm my daughter is four. So because my wife did have words to say i asked her to leave. She did I then asked your wife to unlock the door one to make sure I had my phone two to record try try the dump. She had to unlock the door and I assure you that you my friend are the liar. Your wife did attack me and Unknown to her I was recording this. So the witnesses would be myself, and my video. Your wife first saw I was recording and jumped on my back slamming shut the tablet with a blue tooth key board. So after she physically attacked me she claimed to call 911 saying I attacked her. Sound still rolling on recorder. Yes I did leave your dumpy hotel and went up the road to wait for the police. They never arrived and so I made a police report. Yes I do heating/ac. I do sales and service. Nothing to smash my figure. If your rooms are so great why was I attacked while recording. I will not pay for something I that we didn't break. Are you not supposed to charge after any damages or did you guess. Funny there's other reviews with similar charging complaints but one five star yelp review for who I'd assume is your witness on the same date. Unlike yourself I won't try to settle over a couple hundred dollars.
