Like others have shared, my experience with this moving company has been terrible. Luckily, I read some reviews after I booked (Google has a very misleading star rating - not sure how) and cancelled my move. UNLUCKILY, I have not received my refund, and I just called for a status update and they advised that their computers have been down and so they cannot process refunds for another few weeks..... I requested to speak with a supervisor, and of course there wasn't one available. I would hate to work in the cancellation/refund/customer service department. My wife and I scheduled a cross-country move over three months ago, and not only have they not delivered our belongings, they are refusing to even provide us with the location of where they say it's being "stored". As many of you have and can attest to, this company is beyond deplorable. AVOID THIS COMPANY MORE THAN YOU'VE EVER AVOIDED A COMPANY BEFORE. I WISH I had read the reviews before booking this company, but - of course - we need moving companies ASAP in stressful moments in our lives. RED FLAG: you are not allowed to use credit cards to pay the deposit, which means you can't dispute the charge. Built into the contract - which you're pressured to sign by being told they can't hold the move if you get off the phone - is that you contractually agree you won't put a stop on the wire payment. In my case, like so many others here and on Better Business Bureau, the move was cancelled by Gold (which turned out to be a blessing, based on how many customers belongings were damaged or outright stolen), and it has been 8 weeks without a refund of the $1,305 I paid them. I was initially told 12-14 days, then 4-6 weeks, and I have gotten the same exact verbiage as other reviewers as to why I still don't have my money. "Busy time of year," "inadequate staffing for COVID," "normal processing times," "it's still in the 'processing' phase." This week, I was told that Gold "unfortunately switched banks" (???) which restarted the clock and added another 3-5 weeks "for processing". They must have a scripted list of excuses to avoid refunding you, I'm just waiting for "my dog ate your refund..." Sometimes when I call, they don't even ask for details of my move, they just automatically tell me that "unfortunately, there's been a delay..." if that gives you any clue of the volume of customers calling upset about the theft. Honestly, I think this company's business model is to hope customers get tired and forfeit their deposit. This experience has been so uniquely horrific and exploitative that I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 star reviewers are fakes. Disputing a $1797.71 deposit for a move that NEVER HAPPENED. They did the SAME to me as I see with another complainant on this YELP page. They gave me a window and at 3 pm, the night BEFORE my final window of July 29-31 (and within their 10 day cancellation policy) I cancelled. The alleged truck they had for me on July 30th - the carrier called and left a voice message "I cannot do your move for you". I had to be OUT of the place I was in and still NO INDICATION OF A CARRIER COMING, I too had to reach out to another moving company. I am in a battle for my deposit back. I had Bank of America retrieve it back, then Gold Standard disputed it BACK. I now am grouping all the emails and recorded messages I kept and REFILING my claim with my bank. DO NOT USE THEM. The moving company contacted us Saturday 6/26 saying Sunday (the next day) 9-6 was the window they'd be there. They originally told us the 26th-28th so this would've been the 27th they were showing up. Fine. We wait until like 4pm after frantically making sure everything is packed, my husband calls to get an ETA since we haven't heard any communication all day and the movers are like....we don't have you set as moving. We can send a guy out tomorrow and he can get there by Tuesday. 1. They're coming from Chicago, we know how long it takes and it shouldn't take a full day. It takes 4 hours. 2. Are you sending one guy for our whole house? What's happening? We didn't realize at first that they just broker out a moving company and they don't actually do it themselves so we have no idea who we're even getting until they show up. We demand that someone is there tomorrow, not Tuesday because we needed to be out by the 30th at the latest. I want to ideally by out the 29th because really we turn over the keys so they can take over the 30th. They start staying they don't even have an estimate for us and can we be flexible? We gave you 3 days with months of advance notice to be flexible. I go to ask for a refund and cancel service because at this point we don't even trust them with our stuff. All of a sudden when I want to cancel, the lady said she checked and the truck is in the shop. It's still in the shop but they can be here in a 3-6pm window. It's 1pm now and they're still coming from Chicago. Yeah no thanks, we already made other arrangements so give us our money back. She said no can do, we can make it in the window so we can't refund then. There was no 24 hr notice. Nobody else knew what was happening and it would've been nearly impossible to make it in that window unless they decided to switch to a private jet to move our stuff. I called a few times and finally threatened them saying we will get our money back because we already reported you as fraudulent to the bank and the next step will be a lawyer and they won't just want the deposit back they will come after you. We got our deposit back eventually but how hard I had to fight for it and how many hours I wasted on the phone was insane. I canceled services in less than 24 hours and still have not gotten any kind of assurance that I will be getting my money back. I've filed with BBB back in October 2021 with no resolution. First, they claimed covid overtook their office so refunds would be slow to roll out since it's backlogged. I thought was fair until another 4 months went by. Now they're saying the payment processing company is withholding the money and they are in litigation to get it back. We booked with this company because I had read good reviews; I NOW have to wonder if THEY wrote them. I should have known when they did not accept credit cards. They give you a low bid ($4800) then up it a little a week before the move, then more than double on the day of the move--$9000! I gave them EXACT measurements on all the furniture and they should have been able to do the math and give me a better estimate the week before. We even moved LESS (I took a 5' x 8' u-haul full and my daughter took a 5 x 8' Uhaul trailer that was half full--the contents of both of these had been planned to go on the truck, but we decided. It was cheaper to haul some.) so even with that adjustment, it was STILL more than double. By that time, on a holiday week, end of school, end of month--there are no other options available to you and the deposit is not refundable. The movers did work hard, but a few things were banged up and you cannot reach customer service for reimbursement. They will not unload the furniture until you pay them. You then have no recourse with the damaged pieces or the fact that they did not set up the beds and mirrors or go to a second location as contracted. The movers were supposed to drop off some furniture at a second location and set up beds and mirrors--NONE of this was done! It is impossible to reach customer service, so there is no hope of reimbursement. This is a complete and shameless SCAM. I imagine there are more companies like this and this one may chang its name after this honest review. I would recommend everyone looking for a mover--check the BBB , only use a credit card for payment, give them exact measurements, have a company that comes and walks through for an exact price and not allow them to deviate from their bid. I took the time to search for the best value & company for what I thought was a great deal. Moving some 600 miles. Initially. Ryan J. Was the first person I spoke with. He & I seem to hit it off on a great note, ( so I thought). I even was excited to ask for a discount &got one. He asked for a $690.00 deposit I gladly paid. Days later I was informed that I needed to speak with the "Quality Assurance" Dept. A few days later Robert S. Phoned & spoke as well as shared that the information I gave would be tweaked just a bit to make sure that all my belongings would have a place on the proper truck.... When he was done tweaking the former agreeable fee had additional funds that would now have to be added... totaling $3,5000.00 and for me not to worry they already had my banking info. I advised Robert not to touch my account at this time as I needed to make adjustments. He assured me the transaction will take a few days to process. I contacted my bank and asked them to freeze any transactions from anyone especially "Gold Starndard ". It was awkward yet doable. He assured me it was not and that they would not send a larger truck. Half of my lifes belongings were damaged, lost, or stolen. I was originally told the truck would go non stop to my new home 2000 miles away. It didn't. It was unloaded in Vegas, my belongings stored and eventually sent to our new home. Many items had to be left behind because they didn't have room i.e. 2 BBQ's, patio set, tool box, extension ladder and more. Many items were damaged or didn't arrive. Some furniture was not disassembled correctly and damaged and nothing was re assembled upon arrival. Some items were not packed safely for a move, i.e. TV put into box with no packing material at all, mattress and box spring strapped to lift gat of truck exposed to elements. FYI! Federal law says they are only liable for damages at 60 cents per lb. per item. So for a 60" 50 lb. broken TV, they are liable for $30. take my advice..spend more money and hire an established well known moving co. directly. I ended up going with Gold Standard Moving when their Yelp page was still full of fake 5 star reviews, so I thought I was working with a legitimate and well recommended company. Several days after they picked up my stuff, I realized I had been tricked. Luckily, the majority of my items made it to my new home, but working with this company has been a nightmare. The company that they contracted me through, JKKK movers (also known as Sonny's) was terrible. The movers stole my jewelry, were extremely rude, and scratched up my walls. When my furniture arrived my mattress was no longer wrapped (ew), my mattress topper was missing, and my bed frame was missing. I have been trying to file a claim about my missing bed frame for two months, but JKKK will not return any of my e-mails or phone calls and Gold Standard basically tells me that it is not their problem because they are a contractor. Save your money and your sanity and do not use this company. They feed off of vulnerable people that are in stressful situations and then use their customers to make a quick buck. Update - we located our property in an abandoned Budget truck in Lincoln, NE after numerous hours spent searching, and with the help of law enforcement. We had to hire a driver to fly to Nebraska and drive the truck to NY, where we unloaded our property ourselves. Gold Standard refuses to compensate us for out of pocket expenses that were over double their "binding estimate". They hired movers that did not fulfill the contract in any way. Movers arrived a day late, we had to help load our own property, and our belongings were NEVER DELIVERED. We recovered and delivered them ourselves 79 days after pick up! Gold Standard did not comply with FMCSA regulations for brokers. They did not provide us with a list of movers that they contract with, and will not provide us with the contract they (supposedly) have with the movers they hired. On Friday 27 August 2021 we were quoted a price of $7781.50 for a total moving cost paying $3260.00 up front for 870 cubic feet of truck storage. 1 September 2021, their movers showed up and attempted to charge us an additional $8000 to move everything despite us having less items to move than originally quoted for. The driver said that we would need additional space on the truck in order to pack everything. We told him that we would only need the space we were originally quoted everything else would stay and he then got in his truck and left. He reported back to Gold Standard stating we refused service preventing us from getting our deposit back. One of the movers stated that this is a scam that they run frequently to get more money out of "desperate" customers. We reserved our movers in the first half of May, and scheduled the move between June 25th and 27th. The starting contract was for $2500. I was to receive a phone call on June 21st to update my inventory. I was told by a sales representative, Ryan, that I had used up to 80% of the space and had some wiggle room to update my inventory. I emailed a few weeks later to clarify how much space I had left to add inventory. I was told by a customer service rep, Charlie, that I had space to add 20-30 medium sized boxes (18x18x18). I got a hold of a customer service representative the next day on the 22nd. When I gave him my updated inventory, he calculated that the new estimate was $4500, and extra $2000 from my original estimate. I had not added nearly enough inventory reach the 20-30 medium sized boxes of space I was told I had--I could not begin to understand how the estimate could go up so much. An hour long conversation with the rep ensued. I was not given a clear answer to why the estimate changed so much. He said that Charlie's estimate was inaccurate, that I had received information from another department that probably didn't do the math--unacceptable response, because that means someone gave me faulty information that nearly cost me $2000. He attempted to give me discounts for the estimate, but by the end of the phone call I had to take my mattress and bed frame out of the inventory. The new estimate was now $3335--not including any charges for stairs and long distance carrying I know they would've charged me for on move day. At this point, I had to wait for the movers. On Thursday, June 24th, I received two phone calls to confirm that the movers would arrive on the 25th between 4-7pm. I believe one phone call was from the carrier and one from Gold Standard customer service. However, no one arrived on the 25th, and I did not receive any phone calls or updates. Then I could not get a hold of anyone at all for the next 48 hours because their office is closed on weekends. I was able to get a hold of a customer service rep on Sunday the 27th. She told me that she didn't have a whole lot of resources at her disposal since she was working only with one other person on site. When I asked her for an update on why the movers were not showing or update it me, she claimed was only in the office for "emergencies." She told me she would contact dispatch, who would then contact the drivers, who would then contact me--but the mover's offices are closed so it was unlikely I would hear back from anyone. So at this point: I was not getting any updates and the movers were not going to arrive during the scheduled window of time I was told. On Monday, June 28th, I called three separate times and waited to speak with a representative for an hour each time. First, I called at 6:30am PST: the representative, Kaley, told me that she did not have any updates for me and that I would have to call back because the mover's office wasn't open yet. She said she would message dispatch to contact me. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told there wasn't anyone I could speak to. I asked to schedule an appointment to speak to a supervisor, and she told me I would need to send an email to schedule that. I then called again at 10:30am PST: the representative, Allie, did not have an update for me. She said she would contact dispatch and ask them to contact me. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she told me there wasn't anyone to speak to; I would need to send an email to support@goldstandardmoving.com (an email I can't find anywhere on the website, mind you). No one from this email has responded to me to date. I called a final time at 2:00pm PST (since they close EST and I had received no updates). I asked why I had not received any updates, and why I was not given any answers. This rep looked at my file and asked if I could push my move date to between July 6th-10th. I told him there was no way this could work, and he let me know that someone in upper management would contact me by end of day PST to help me get help ASAP. But no one called. Tuesday, June 29th. I called at 10:30am PST and asked to facilitate a full refund. I was told that the movers got into an accident "sometime over the weekend," which does not explain why they did not arrive on Friday, June 25th or why I could not get an update from anyone. I was then transferred to their department for refunds and was told that it would take time for all the supervisors to sign off on the refund and that I would receive a call by end of day to confirm when/if the refund would be processed. I had not received a call, so I called back and asked for an update on the refund. The rep was able to approve the refund while I was on the phone and I signed for the refund to be initiated. It has been a week, the refund has not processed yet--I was told it will take 9-12 business days. read more

Then when my wife started recording them they got in their truck and pulled off without our furniture. USE A REPUTABLE MOVING COMPANY NOT THIS ONE! Although everything turn out ok in the long run this is the second time I made this mistake. They called me with their high pressure quote and said had to take it now to guarantee the price. After talking with them I knew there were just a moving "broker" and subcontracted the actual move out to other companies. The high pressure sales tactics and low price was the mistake I made. I had my stuff figured out to the cu. ft. and was under 300 cu. ft. when they called to confirm the shipment I told them I had less than 300 cu. ft. and all I got was we have a minimum of 300 cu. ft. I had questions along the way and it was impossible to get any answers, the only ones who answer phones are customer service and those poor people take a beating. In the long run the subcontracted mover they used (Cheetah Movers out of Gardena, CA. I left a review for them as well) turned out ok and I got my stuff safely and undamaged but they also made me pay more saying it is the way stuff is packed in the truck and not by cu. ft. Save yourself the time and the headache and go with a reputable mover, yes you will pay more but at least you know your furniture is not being held hostage, I have done this twice now and didn't see to learn my lesson the first time. read more

MISLEADING BUSINESS PRACTICES. I signed a binding estimate with Gold Standard and paid a $1300 deposit for my move four months in advanced. One month later I had to cancel my move and was outside of the 10 day refund period for my deposit. I was told that upper management can approve refunds outside of this period and given the contact information for upper management. 3 weeks passed and despite sending several emails and making phone calls no one from Gold Standard ever reached out to me to discuss my refund. After more than 3 weeks I received a reply to my email with an assurance that someone from upper management would contact me by the end of the following day. No one ever contacted me. Additionally, the email I received was signed by an employee working for/ listing the website for a company called United American Moving. Upon doing further research I realized that Gold Standard and United American Moving are the same company just using two separate names. United American Moving has dozens of complaints with the department of transportation and the better business bureau. I was also told that Gold Standard had been in business for 30 years but upon further research could find no reviews/ record for the company beyond the last year. Given I was outside the refund period, my review is not based on losing my deposit but rather the complete lack of communication and customer service Gold Standard demonstrates. (cant write out the email the normal way because the algorithm flags links) gold standard on the news for scamming! check it out folks!!on wsvn dot com. authors of article of investigation are by kevin ozebek, darcelle hall. i used this service and i live in an apartment complex in downtown seattle. the apartment only has 1 service elevator, and i told everysingle person who i interacted with, moving coordinator, dispatcher, and another customer care team. 3 people i told to let the driver know i need a 24-48 hour notice from the driver so i can book the elevator. i can't just block off the apartment elevator for 2 whole days because other people live here and are also moving. so i get a call from abc moving company at 3pm telling me they are coming tomorrow between 9am-12pm!!! i was like, wait i was told i would get a notice and the elevator is already booked the whole day! in the end, i yelled a lot to everyone (gold standard and abc person) and i had to beg my apartment complex to move another person moving so abc moving could come get my stuff or else they would reschedule for october....so i was told by david on the phone. which i have no idea who he is...why he called me and how he got my information for this move... not going to lie...they are picking up my stuff tomorrow 09/23 and i am a little afraid i may not get all my items as a i read the awful reviews with this company. read more

Please DO NOT used Gold Standard Relocation, it till save you thousands of dollars and the headache of dealing with these people. They quote you one amount like 3k and end up paying thousands more, your stuff doesn't show up on time and when you do receive it is so damage it's unfixable cause you to spend thousands replacing the items. When the moving crew came in, they looked at all my stuff and they talked among each other in Spanish saying it was a lot less stuff then what was on the paperwork. The foreman walks out and is on the phone forever and he comes back in saying that they would need about 200 cubic feet more than the original quote. My wife is Mexican (looks Asian) and speaks fluent Spanish. She asked "Why it was going to be more if they said in Spanish it was less stuff then what was on the quote," they were in complete shock that she spoke Spanish and understood their whole conversation. At this point I wanted to cancel and they said I would lose all my deposit. They argued with my wife back and forth, eventually her telling them we would not pay for the additional 200 more cubic ft, and they can stop once the reached the original cubic ft amount and they finally said FINE. Not only did I pay $892 additional for premium package for my $1700 curve tv to be put in a wardrobe box causing it to crack, ruining it completely. Having to spend $2000 more to replace it. Not only was my tv broken, my $2000 table was chipped and damaged all over, and all other small miscellaneous stuff was ruined. I requested this moving company because I'm 100% service connected disabled Vet, I've had 3 shoulder operations, broken neck and back problems and they took advantage of me. I sent in all the damage pictures and they want to give me a little over $100, what a joke. Makes me sick thinking they are doing this to thousands of people. We called Gold Standard Relocation to try and dispute the claim amount since we did not received premium packaging causing our TV to crack and they referred us back to the actual moving company FLASH MOVING & STORAGE, INC. that moved our items. They are only the BROKER company that subcontracts the move. I called FLASH MOVING & STORAGE, INC. Charlie answered and said they would call back to talk about the claim. Charlie NEVER called back, I called over and over and left many messages with no success. I called GOLD STANDARD RELOCATION, and they said they couldn't do anything about it and they gave me other numbers to call, still no success. I have been waiting months on this lousy claim refund and I still have not received it. This company is a scam, DO NOT USE!!!! This Company is a "SCAM". They will steal your money. Do not give them a dime. I made the mistake of giving them over 1K as a deposit for my move, that was in June 2021. I received an Email on July 2nd saying they would refund my money in 9 work days. It is now mid January, and I still have absolutely no idea when I will EVER get that money back. They sell your job to an independent shipper/courrier and are not responsible for their screw ups, they lie about everything, the courrier/shipper demands cash payments up front and then does nothing they promised they would do, they pressure you at the last minute to sign things you don't have time to read. They destroy your belongings. All my things were damaged. There is no insurance - the shipper is self-insured and insures by weight. The whole thing is a horrible scam. DO NOT HIRE THIS OR ANY OTHER MOVING COMPANY. Do it yourself with friends, or use Uhauls or pods. This company is a rip off and dishonest. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. During the initial call, the sales rep was not clear that their company charges based on space used on the truck, as some charge by weight or the time it takes to move. Three days before my love, they did a "quality assurance" call and only THEN did the rep say it was very important that I listed everything. Obviously, the inventory was greater. My quote increased by $6000, forcing me to cancel as I didn't have that kind of money three days before my move. They then told me I was outside the refund window. So my $1400 deposit was theirs, even though no services were rendered. No truck was assigned or dispatched, no movers did any work. I emailed "support" to get clarity, after a month, still no response. When they did call, I was told that I would not be transferred to anyone above the representative I was speaking with, I was no longer a customer, my concerns were a waste of time because I wasn't getting a refund.
