I'm relatively new to the Ventura and Oxnard areas. I sold my car several weeks ago and started using Gold Coast Transit. Most of the drivers are amazing! You can typically depend on them for being on time and for being helpful with route and location information. Well, unfortunately I had a very horrible experience with a driver named Colleen the day after Thanksgiving. I took the number 17 at around 9:34 or so that morning. As I entered the bus, the driver didn't do anything noticeably off. However, once I sat in my seat (about three seats behind the bus driver) she, after two stops, turned around and scolded me and paused for response saying, " If you're going to be on your phone you need to lower your voice" very nastily and aggressively. I was on the phone with my brother and I speak at the same tone pretty much most of the time and it's never loud. So I said to my brother, " I think that this driver must really be tuned in/listening to my conversation because she just told be to lower my voice". Then, she started reacting like a bully. I turned to other passengers to ask if I'd indeed been a bit loud without my knowledge. At that point the driver pulled over and gets up to approach me. I asked the driver to please not address me two times. I then let my brother know that I wanted to get off the phone to call the police because I didn't know what she was trying to or going to do. As well, I wanted to record. She gets up to grab one of the Gold Coast Transit books and show me the rules. I wasn't breaking any of the rules there was nothing in what I did there was disruptive, unsafe nor threatening. I just wanted to get to and from my destination safely on my off day. As I pick up the phone to call the police and she noticed that I was on with an officer and once Colleen, the driver, notice that I was on with the police she tried to play out ahead of me and she called her dispatcher and told him that she wanted me removed from the bus as she taunted me and heckled. When she saw that I turned to the other passengers, she brashly and aggressively said, "What did you turn to them for?! They can't help you!'' and laughed a very evil laugh and taunted several times. I understand those other passengers because they just wanted to get to and from their destinations without any theatrics just as I. And I began to pray. At the moment I began to pray Colleen heckled and said, "Oh now you're praying for me hahaha!" The Living God loves us all and I'm His child. He will defend me and in that vein I told her, "You're going to regret this. You don't know who I am. You're clearly just trying to gaslight me". She yelled and taunted "Apparently, she's somebody important! What is gaslighting? What is gaslighting?" Then, she googled and read some of the definition of gaslighting in reference to me. She acts as a bully who is allowed to get away with things. More happened AND THE VIDEO SHOULD BE EASILY PULLED. In the end, a very professional supervisor came to take me away (humiliating, all the same). He took a report. As well, as I was still on the bus, I called customer service. How could someone be so ugly and try tormenting someone a day after a holiday--unless being at work bothers her. She should not be allowed to drive a bus if she is this upset over my conducting myself with respect. John Kelly, her supervisor called me and we spoke last Friday. He basically, let me know that she'd still be driving (which is horrifying to think I'd have to see her again and trust her to transport me to my destination). He also told me that he wouldn't likely pull the video because it's too time consuming but later said that he might try. He apologized for my experience but no empathy was present, in my opinion. I told him that all the other drivers were good and that I'd even called a few weeks ago to compliment them. He told me that he'd love if I could do so more. Smh. When I asked John Kelly what is to be expected in case I have to see this driver again he told me that it's like an Etch A Sketch. He's basically telling me to Shake It Off. It doesn't work like that. It's not about shaking something off. I was bullied and harassed and nothing was done to the person who did it. How does he even know what transpired when he won't pull the video?! He told me that he might ask his director but he wasn't banking on it. Why video and record if you won't view it in instances as this? Where he called and had a conversation with me I don't feel that he truly cared about my experience nor that he cared to actually prevent a situation like this with this driver in the future. A driver that behaves that way he's someone who doesn't like nor appreciate the position she's in it has been allowed to get away with many things as a bully. read more
