I have taken the train to Sacramento , Burbank, LA, and SB from here. Always a great experience. I have never had a delay. I buy my tickets online and they're sent right to my email. Love not having to worry about traffic. Stress free. The WiFi isn't great though , that was a bummer. They sell food and booze on board. You are not allowed to bring your own liquor, you will be kicked off the train. They said that multiple times. Next summer , I'll get the multi ride package as I find myself in SB a lot in the summer. It's a nice little change of scenery. I always ride during the day and have felt safe. Unsure how it is at night but this area can be rough. Staff is nice and trains are pretty clean. Plus , we have a great coffee spot at this Amtrak .. Dolce Vita. A must !!!! read more

I'm here at least twice a month for work and it's always nice to hope on the Surfliner and head to work!

More attention in business class. Our guy did nothing . Did not offer drinks or snacks and didn't open door for us to get off train in time.

First time taking the Surfliner train to the Burbank airport and I didn't know what to expect since I hadn't read the reviews. However, my husband has taken this train to the Burbank airport and he says he enjoys taking the train. I've taken the Surfliner up the coast in the past and remember it being enjoyable as well. Please note: this train leaves right on time! You really need to be there at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure or you'll miss your ride. If you need help with luggage you also need to get there early. I purchased a Business Class seat which is upstairs and I had to pull heavy luggage by myself up the narrow stairway. Was not offered any help. This was fine for me but could be a turn off for others. Each stop along the way is pretty quick as well. They check your ticket after you've left and your in your seat. Not sure how they handle stowaways! There's plenty of seats and each seat is very roomy. The seats recline quite a bit considering they hardly recline on most airplanes; however, I'm not sure I could get a good night's sleep here on an overnight ride. The views are breathtaking and relaxing, especially for those of us who suffer from anxiety. There are no seat belts and the ride is pretty smooth. I loved seeing all the cars stopped in the road in order to let us pass, like we were special. Internet reception was very good and I could see myself being able to get a lot of work done. There is a foot rest and small table in front of you. There is one restroom on one end of the car and a complementary self serve beverage & snack station on the other. There is a Cafe on the lower level that is available for you to purchase items but with my short trip I didn't go check that out. The stop at Burbank is across the street from the actual airport. Before I arrive, an employee let me know my stop was coming up and even helped me with my luggage which was appreciated. When you exit the train, make a right and you'll get to the handicapped friendly down ramp to the crosswalk. Unfortunately, I wasn't told & learned the hard way. I made the mistake of going left and ended up having to wait for the train to leave so I could cross the tracks where there is a section to do so but is farther from the airport entrance. The walk is probably about 10 minutes max to the airport entrance if your hauling rolling luggage. Overall good experience and while I wouldn't recommend it for someone handicapped, I would do this again! read more

If you are attractive to Oxen, then perhaps you make Oxen-hard. This is not that. Greyhound in Oxnard stops at the main Amtrak station which is a big reddish building with gorgeous shapes on the towers and roof, and actually looks a little bit more Northeastern and Midwestern then it does like quintessential California. Oxnard is a busy but sleepy City that reminds me of San Luis Obispo and Ventura and Santa Barbara, and the station is a similar size to those, and not too many people who live around here use the Greyhound anyway in my experience. The Oxnard Transit Center is actually mainly all about the Pacific Surfliner that comes through here, which is an amazing train, and it has a big road right across the platform, which is what I always remember about it. And the station isn't one of the classically beautiful ones, that's for sure. It's called the Oxnard Transit Center, and all the buses terminate here, and of course Greyhound and the Amtrak trains. The Oxnard Metrolink is located right at the Oxnard Transit Center as you would imagine. It's pretty generic but the Surfliner is an amazing train in general. There was a horrible Metrolink crash right here a long time ago, and it's a pretty hazardous crossing, not too much fun, but amazingly the crash didn't cause any fatalities. However, on another occasion, two people were killed when their vehicle was struck by a train. read more

Finally, all the transportation systems serving Oxnard converge in this one spot, so you've got Metrolink, Greyhound, local buses and VCTC intercity buses that all leave from this one station as well. I rode the Amtrak for the first time today from Oxnard to Santa Ana and my experience was very pleasant. First and foremost, my train came exactly on time and I arrived at my destination on time. I felt like there was sufficient time to board and get off the train at your station. Extra long stop at union station to reload on their snack tray. I felt the seats were adequately clean and spacious room between sears with a nice head rest and a foot rest provided. There were compartments above and at the end of each sections for luggages and backpacks. AC was working and was at a comfortable temperature. Not too hot or cold. WiFi was available for free and was working most of the time. Due keep in mind that this Amtrak station is much smaller than the Santa Ana and Anaheim station and a lot older too. The price was a bit expensive. 30$ one way and if you buy with triple A at least 3-4 days in advance it will cost 27$. Much more than it would cost for gas from Oxnard to OC but no sitting in traffic which is a big plus! read more

I made plans to visit my (step)Mom, in Newport Beach, so I mapped out the journey & booked an on-line ticket with Amtrak for a 3 1/2 hour train trip from Oxnard station to Irvine station. Sounds odd for a car owner, doesn't it? The reason that I went via rail versus driving is as simple as this: &%#@ TRAFFIC! The prior weekend I had also visited and the trip took 3 hours there and 2 1/2 hours back - absolutely criminal & exhausting. I booked the standard seat ($23), then decided to upgrade to business class ($13) for a total ticket price of $36. This didn't sound bad at all considering that I'd get to relax, watch a DVD about Bengal tigers, finish a book on CD, then begin a draft on a Yelp review, while having a muffin, juice, & enjoying the view pass by my window. A very relaxing trip indeed. Positives: - Very comfortable seats - Clean - Very helpful staff - Lots of leg room - AC plug-ins (business class) - Clean restrooms - Food & beverages available - Great city views - Relaxing - It's a train trip, too! Negatives: - Needing transportation at the destination site. I could eliminate the above negative if I had planned better with NM so that she could have picked me up at the Irvine station. Although many homeless hang around the bus stop, they never bother the people in the train station or near the tracks. The staff is super nice and the facility is well maintained for the diversity of people that arrive. You can buy train and bus tickets along with snacks at a gift shop. Do not think this station is just a stop with a bench. I recommend all to stop on by and give this place a try to see this great country! read more

I frequently travel to SLO, L.A, and SD and as much as I like to drive, sometimes it's just nice to not have to worry about traffic. This is my home station and I love it. If you don't want to put up with buying the ticket at the counter, download the app and make the purchase there. Or call it in. I love this station because the staff are great. I've never come in contact with the ticket counter people, but everyone else have always been nice and helpful. If you're going on a long ride, go across the street for some Mexican food and other treats. Another plus is the free WiFi. read more

Celebrating a bachelorette party in Santa Barbara, took the train from Ventura but have never been treated more awful. Instead of having a good time, we were told to "shut up," or we were going to face a "federal offense." For saying "woooo" when the bachelorette took a photo. I will NEVER ride this train again in my life and I suggest no one else does either. I wrote this before getting off the train. We travel to Santa Barbara about 5-6 times per year and always leave from this location. There is also a North Bound train that goes all the way up the coast (Coast Starlight) that you can pick up here as well. Great for day-trips into and out of Ventura County. I have taken the Amtrak from Oxnard to Solana Beach a lot, and it is really a good option to avoid driving. I like that there are different times to leave that work around different schedules. Good things about the Oxnard station: there are always seats on the southbound trains, even on Fridays, holiday weekends, whatever. And this isn't true at all for northbound trains. Station is clean and you can buy tickets there, and if you need the bus, it's there, too. An interesting story: one time I went to pick up my fiancee. It was Friday night, and I sat there waiting. There were two guys there talking, and of course I listened because there wasn't much more to do. They were carrying plastic bags and nothing more, and were wearing similar outfits. That's interesting, I thought to myself. As I listened to more of their conversation, they mentioned that they had both just gotten out. They had just been released from jail. Sweet. So not only will you be able to buy your ticket, get a seat, etc, you also might run into some ex-convicts. Ah, Oxnard, my home town. read more

The Oxnard station is fine; it is a normal, slightly rundown train station, but I am writing this review for the phenomenal, above-and-beyond service I have received both times visiting the Oxnard station. The first time, I was riding a train from Santa Barbara to Ventura, and I left my phone on the train. The man behind the counter at Oxnard got the phone from the conductor and then was super kind and helpful about making sure I got it back. So that was awesome. The second time I dealt with the employees at this station was today, when I was shipping out about 500 lbs of stuff to Seattle. The man behind the counter, an older Hispanic gentleman named John, seriously deserves a raise. He was so patient and helpful and friendly the whole time he was lifting all of my heavy boxes and weighing them, even taking the time to reinforce some of them with extra tape that he had, I was there for about 45 minutes unloading boxes and getting everything in order, and the whole time he was friendly, amicable, professional, and very helpful. So thank you Oxnard Amtrak, and especially John, for making what was otherwise a grueling task way more relaxed and fun. read more

This last trip, was by far the WORST I've ever encountered. The train was cancelled, due to whatever... I get it. Stuff happens. What torqued me off most was that the agent at the station didn't seem to have much of a plan as to how to get us to our destination (San Diego) nor as to what time a clue would be granted. Once we were finally underway (charter bus from Oxnard to Union Station in LA), with no chance based on the rules of space, time, physics and barring divine intervention, neither the driver nor the 800-USA-RAIL people were able to give us a solution as to what to do once we got to Union Station (NOT Driver's Fault, he was just a charter driver NOT an Amtrak employee). The driver had to call his "super secret" number to announce to the passenger what the deal was. Here's what we got "I'm going to Burbank, and then to Union Station. That's all I know. That's all they told me." WTF??!!?!! While I'm pretty sure it's not a company wide issue (customer service in Ventura County seems to be sub-par as a rule). The customer service both in Oxnard, and the rude and ignorant people at Union Station will definitely make me stop and consider Greyhound vice Amtrak. (Fare using GH was within $5 of Amtrak.) read more

Located in the pig sty section of Oxnard. Amtrak cancels trains and could care less about the customers. Late, sitting on a siding for 3 hours, standing and waiting for a train that never arrives. I could tell so many stories about the poor service, that my tax dollars pay for. I have travelled all over the world and this is the only country that has such poor service. read more

I drive from Camarillo to the Oxnard station so my son can take the train to his dad's as an unaccompanied minor. The staff here is ALWAYS personable and helpful. We were even here one unfortunate Saturday morning when one of the passengers decided to jump off the platform in front of the train when it was coming in. The event was HORRIFIC to say the least and since we were down the way on the platform, the only way to get back to the station was to go past the crime scene. One of the staff members quickly scooped my son up in a golf cart, had him keep his eyes closed and escorted him back to the station. I am eternally grateful for that one act of compassion and kindness alone...for that swift action, this station and their employees deserve WAY more then 5 stars. read more

This review is really for an employee named Roger with Amtrak in Oxnard CA. I took the train on 7/3/17 from Oceanside to Oxnard. I had an e-ticket and boarded the train at 4:53 a.m. in Oceanside. While on the train I realized I lost my purse, I didn't know since the office in Oceanside didn't open until 5:15 a.m. AND I had my e-ticket. Since I was already on the train headed north for business, I was fine for the day, however, when I was to return on the 5:07 pm train, it was delayed by 3 hours. I was unsure if one train was cancelled and if everyone had to go on the last train of the night OR if there were still two trains, just one is delayed. I went to the ticket window and Roger was behind the counter. He asked my last name in which I gave him. He couldn't find it and asked me to write it down. I wrote it down and he then asked for my photo ID. I explained to him that I lost my purse. He said, "I cannot help you then and you CANNOT ride the train" I said, "Sir, I am not sure what to do, I have my e-ticket and didn't need my ID on the way up, not realizing my purse was lost until I was already on, I have 2 kids I must make it home to, what are my options?" He stated, "YOU are a FRAUD, you FRAUDUANTLY rode the train up here, I cannot continue to do wrong. If you had one of these, which you should have gotten" (he waived paper tickets in the air) I said: "Sir, the train station office was not open that early" He said, "Yes, it was you just didn't do it right, you are a FRAUD" I said: "Sir, the office opened at 5:15 a.m. as that is the first place I went and my train left at 4:53 am He said: "You should have gone the day before then, I can cancel this half of the ticket and refund you your money to the CARD in which you purchased it on and go to greyhound, they don't check ID" I said "Sir, I have no purse, no card or money to purchase anything additional, I do not want a refund. I need to speak with a Manager please as I have two children that will not have childcare if I do not get home" He said: " I am it and I am not going to continue the FRAUD, I can refund your ticket and go to greyhound" At that point, I said, "Thank you" and I walked away. I was in complete disbelief on how absolutely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL Roger was. I heard him be verbally combative with two other clients for just simple questions. I really hope that AMTRAK will take a serious look at this employee, he should not be on the front lines to try to help people and to call me a FRAUD was completely out of line. Since I did not try to pose as someone else, I did not try to profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage, I do not understand how he had the right to talk to me that way at all. It is not acceptable to call me that when I told him my situation and he dismissed me without caring or listening and calling me names. Again, I hope that AMTRAK is better than this employee and will handle the situation. There are other patrons that take the train from that station more regularly and when I told them what happened, they knew him by name and recited what their incident was with him, so PLEASE AMTRAK, research this, it is not okay. Everyone else I have encountered has been helpful, but this is not the reputation that Oxnard transit center specifically the AMTRAK window should want with Roger working there. read more

We have used the train for years as the wife refuses to fly anymore. We always up grade to a sleeper as it gives us our "space". The dining menu has not changed in years, but is adequate. We have 2 special lady's at the Van Nuys station that are superb and treat us like family. If you have to be on time then I recommend diffrent transportation as the train is sometime late. The scenery is ever changing from the rugged coast line, to mountains, to the desert. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. read more

I WILL NEVER AGAIN RIDE WITH AMTRAK! I was heading home for new years from san diego to moorpark station. The train broke down an hour outside of san diego and had to wait for another train for an hour. Once I got on my way on the replacement train, it made an extra stop at the los angeles station. In the chaos of having switched trains and delays, when the conductor came around to check tickets he was unaware of the situation and mistakenly told me "my tickets were no good and had to get off the train" I tried to explain the situation and asked him to call someone to double check but he wouldnt. I was kicked off the train and stranded at LA station. He refused to call a manager and threatened to have me arrested if I didnt get off the train immidiately. In the rush to gather my things, i left my phone behind and had no way of calling to make arrangements to get home. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. When i called the customer service line, they offerd me $20 for a $96 TICKET AND LEAVING ME STRANDED IN LA. METROLINK IS THE WAY TO GO, THEY CAME TO MY RESCUE AND ENDED UP GIVING ME A FREE RIDE HOME. This is a warning to all passengers thinking about parking in the long term parking lot....DON'T DO IT! We parked in the long term lot around 7:15am yesterday while we took the train to LA for a football game. The train was supposed to leave Union Station at 7:16pm but was of course DELAYED and didn't arrive until 8:42pm. This of course delayed our arrival back to Oxnard by an hour and a half. We got back around 10:30pm only to discover that someone had stolen the catalytic converter from our truck. We knew it right away when we started the truck and it was extremely loud. The person who stole it will maybe get $20 for the part while we will have to pay hundreds to replace it. NO security is patrolling this lot like they're supposed to. We called the Oxnard Police Department, which of course was inundated with numerous other calls that night. We waited an hour for an officer to show up just to file a report and tell us that they most likely won't catch the guy since there is a large homeless population in the area. He said that sometimes they wait to see someone park in the long term lot and then go in, knowing that they won't be back to their vehicle for awhile. There are cameras above the Emergency posts in the parking lot but it's unknown if they actually record anything. Do yourself a favor and don't park in this lot if you care about your car....or just don't take Amtrak since they're always delayed and are overpriced. read more

Horrible! I am permanently disabled and traveling from Ventura to Simi Valley. The Oxnard station gave me a ticket for the 2:57 train. There were multiple trains delayed. I was on the train platform and asked an employee if this train was mine. He answered no, yours will be here in ten minutes. Train leaves and another employee informs me THAT WAS MY TRAIN!!!!!!! There isn't another train for hours!!!! My disabled daughter will now be home alone because "I didn't ask the right employee!" WHAT!! They will gladly refund my money so I CAN CALL A CAB?!?!?! Why don't I call the police to check on my daughter?!? So they can remove her from my custody??? read more

This review is for Amtrak in general. Would give them 0 stars and we will never use a train to travel ever ever again. Train was delayed 2 hours and then the train ride took an extra 3 plus hours to arrive as I'm still sitting in the parking lot waiting for my 2 year old 9 year old and husband to arrive. Train was supposed to arrive at 5:55 and it is now almost 10:30 at night still no train in sight. Mind you I made hotel reservations for tonight $200 for us to not even enjoy. It was supposed to be a fun short 3 hour train ride from Paso Robles to Santa Barbara and I would pick them up and we would enjoy the evening. We took the Coast Starlight from Santa Barbara to Salem, OR. We were looking forward to trying an overnight sleeper car for the 1st time. We were told that 1-2 people and 1-2 suitcases would fit in our roomette.That would be impossible. Thankfully we checked one bag, and only brought one bag into the roomette. We were able to put our bag in a rack by the door. Our roomette was 6 1/2x 3 1/2. It was fun to sit in the observation car and visit with people and the food was pretty good. There were no wine tastings as advertised. Back to our roomette, our entire car smelled terrible as though it had never been cleaned. The top bunk was about 2 1/2 feet wide with a hard mattress. I could not sit up in it. The bottom bunk is about 3 ft wide with a little better mattress. But between the horn blowing every few minutes and the smell we got very little sleep and were very relieved when we got to our destination. But the people on the train had mixed feelings about the train. There were some people who love trains and take it everywhere that they can. And there were a lot of people who said that they were first timers and wouldn't do it again. We wouldn't take it again, mainly because of the dirty train and the smell. read more

I'm only giving this 1 star because i HAVE to. Normally i'm not one to complain, ever, but i'm soooo tired of Amtrak Bus Connections. Not saying anything about the train since for the most part the customer service there is okay, other than everyone always looking and acting like they hate their jobs. Amtrak seriously needs to start hiring better people as drivers for their buses. The last 3 times getting a bus from Santa Paula, Ca to Bakersfield i've come in contact with 3 rude drivers! Riding on a bus at this very moment and it was the last straw which made me write this, driver did not even get out of his seat, opened the door and was on his phone and didn't even look at me and asked "going to bakersfield?" I saw yeah. Then he said "ok get on" mind you i had a really heavy suitcase, i picked it up and had to get it on the bus and then lift it to get in on one of the seats. Before, they would open the bottom and take it from you and do it for you. He said he didn't need to scan my ticket and told me to sit down. Ughhhh! I wish i was the type of person to speak my mind at that very moment, but i don't like starting problems. So so rude! I rather drive on my own than have to be dealing with his horrible customer service because it only seems to get worse than better. I was pleasantly surprised with my first visit to the Oxnard train station. It was easy to get to , it was very clean inside and the staff seemed professional and courteous. Roger is VERY RUDE and has NO business working with the public!!! I had two VERY UNPLEASANT experiences with him and observed him being EXTREMELY RUDE to the customer ahead of me. During the first encounter that I had with Roger he yelled at my daughter and made her cry. My daughter's baggage was not transferred with her from Martinez to Oxnard and the clerk at Martinez failed to give her the ticket claim. I called Amtrak and they said the train would be arriving at the Oxnard station at 10 and we could pick up the baggage. We went to pick up the baggage but It was going to be delayed. Roger told my daughter that because she didn't have the claim ticket and it was her fault that she didn't get it she couldn't have her baggage back. My daughter then asked if she showed her ID and it matched the name tag on her luggage could she get her baggage. Roger told her no and started yelling at my daughter about failing to do her job about getting the claim tag. My daughter started crying and I told him to stop yelling at my daughter who's only 19 and has never travelled on Amtrak by herself. I told him I would be filing a complaint with Amtrak. Here's the funny thing when my daughter went back to the Oxnard Station the next day to get her luggage Roger was there and he just handed her her luggage. She never had to fill out any paperwork that he claimed she would have to do to retrieve her property. Today we went back to Amtrak to purchase a ticket for my daughter to go back to Martinez. Roger was working behind the counter and because he was such a JERK to my daughter she didn't want to deal with him and gave me her AAA card and ID so that I could purchase her ticket. As I stood in line I watched Roger be really rude to the customer ahead of me and he actually walked away from the customer telling him that he was done with him. I thought well it looks like he's that way with everyone. When I got to the ticket counter I told Roger that I needed to purchase a ticket for my daughter and I presented her ID and AAA card to him. He then asked me how old my daughter was and when I told him he RUDELY told me that she could not have the AAA discount because she wasn't a minor. He didn't even bother to check the ID that I presented him to see that it matched the AAA card. Roger was so sarcastic and RUDE for the duration of my time at the counter. If Amtrak is going to continue to have Roger work with the public they need to send him to CUSTOMER SERVICE training. And if I ever have to go back to the Oxnard Station and Roger is there I will definitely be requesting for assistance from someone else!!!
