It's as if the unassuming station, sleek trains, and dozens of convenient parking spaces are playing hide-and-seek in a nondescript industrial pocket located in the shadow of the 101. The conductor was nice, but seemed both surprised and proud of me for finding the station when I boarded. I've spoken to several folks born and raised in Ventura who were simply unaware that the Ventura East Metrolink station exists, which provides an opportunity to make a little cash with small stakes wagers that it's actually a real place. I've made about $12, to date. The Ventura East (aka "Hogsmeade") Metrolink station is a hidden gem, and my train trip into LA was a comfortable, convenient and quiet ride. But you didn't hear that from me.

Come visit our thrift stores, our shops, restaurants, bakeries, and what have you. Forget high gas prices and hop on the train. Don't forget there are discounts for students, military personnel, seniors, and groups. Parking is kind of weird at first. You drive as if you are going to park at the fairgrounds. If there is someone at the fairgrounds parking pay station, just let them know that you are driving through for Amtrak or just say Amtrak. I drive to the left to the exit. Then I park in the green and wait for my daughter or son to go or to arrive via train. The station is outside. Ventura has a mild climate so heat is rarely an issue. Sometimes the train is late. Yesterday, July 20th, they only announced that the southbound train was late. The northbound train was 55 minutes late. It wasn't announced. I recommend the train. I still want to master how to track the train online not via phone to check on train status.

I rode coach to Anaheim and had 2 angry people yelling (one on phone, the other in a dispute over luggage). One passenger yelled for the conductor and he resolved the issue. I decided to ride business class back. It was quieter, and the snacks were appreciated. The conductor, Cameron McEntire, went above and beyond helping seniors and myself, a disabled passenger, with luggage off the rack and off the train. Even though the train was 20 minutes late arriving in Anaheim, it made up time in DTLA and got me home on time.

I got a ride to the Moorpark station, it is very easy to find, well marked and good signage from the 118 (Los Angeles Avenue). Lots of parking, but not much shade here. This station is not designed to protect you from either the sun or rain, so be prepared. They have vending machines here where you can purchase your ticket using either a credit card or cash. The AMTRAK train also stops here. I took the Metrolink straight to the Burbank Airport. The train had 4 cars, one car is designed and marked for bicycles, so it is easy to transport a bike here. The train was very clean, even had bathrooms! they are double decker trains and wheelchair friendly. I sat on the upper level and had a great view! The trip was smooth, fast and fairly quiet. I think it took about 30 minutes to Burbank. Each stop is fairly short so you have to be prepared to disembark at your station. The cars are air conditioned. The cost of my trip was $4.75!! can't beat that! The stop at the Burbank airport is right across the street from the rental car agencies. There were 2 vans waiting at the station to transport people to the airport so it is super easy to get straight to the airport. From Thousand Oaks there are free shuttles available that take you to the Moorpark station. They pick up at the Oaks Mall, Cal Lutheran, and a few other places, check TOT.org - not sure about the website. (Thousand Oaks Transit) for more information.

Plus you can leave your car overnight. This train station is service by both Amtrack and the Metrolink. The station is quite simple but super clean. The station does not offer a building for shelter or a bathroom. The station does provide for some limited covering areas and seats. There is a metrolink kiosk but not an amtrak kiosk available at the platform. Amtrak tickets can be purchased online through their website or on their app. Metrolink tickets can also be purchased online. Enjoy your ride!

There is plenty of parking and there are a several covered areas to sit by the tracks. There is a large passenger drop off/pick up area in front of the station. It is always kept very clean and at night, it is well lit. This is a great place to catch the Metrolink or have friends/family come in on the train.
