I made an appointment last week to have my brakes fixed at Gold coast Auto, using new parts that I had purchased before hand, but found I didn't have the physical ability to install.
The person who set up the appointment said they could do it, using my new parts, but told me ahead of time that the labor would be more to install them so they could recoup some of the money they lost from buying the parts and jacking up the price towards the customer (me). I told the guy who set up the appointment that I was OK with that, It was only fair, because I don't have the help to do the job, and my health is not the best. I made an agreement to pay twice as much as I was quoted by Brakes Plus if they bought the parts and charged me more for them, $200 just to install the parts for me. The guy said that I wouldn't get a guarantee and I agreed.
I had my truck towed to the shop on the appointed day, bringing the sealed, boxed brake parts with me.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by another man (I presume he was a mechanic) who said he would NOT do the job using my parts. He would only do the job with parts he bought himself.
I explained to him, that I had told the man I made the appointment with that I had the new parts already, and he had told me this was OK. If they needed more parts, they could let me know and I would approve the purchase.
This guy yelled that the other guy had no authority to tell me that, and that he would not fix the brakes unless HE ordered all the parts and was able to mark up the price of the parts and twice the cost of labor, passing on the cost to me. This after I had gone through the trouble of having my truck towed from my house to his facility.
After listening to this guy yell for a few more minutes, I decided to take my business elsewhere. I told him that I was going to report the Business to the Better Business Bureau.
The only reason I was going to use this place was because it was close to my house and the fact that the Business had first agreed to use the parts I had bought myself.
If he wanted to gouge me on the parts so bad-then the other guy I talked to earlier last week should have told me so. I told this guy that since he wasn't there when I asked the first guy, then the first guy was a representative of the Business and the Business should agree to what was agreed upon last week.
I left because the man was yelling and making a scene. He can keep the drama IMHO. As the tow truck person was loading my truck back on the tow truck the man came out and offered to look at my truck, but wouldn't agree to fix it. I told him no, that I was going to look for someone else to fix my truck. The tow truck driver told me that his brother was a mechanic and called him for me. The brother agreed to do the labor and install my parts for me. I had him fix my truck brakes. The tow truck driver, also, told me that he had seen the same man act the same way when he had towed another vehicle to Gold Coast Auto Service.
No way would I deal with this disorganized mess in the future. I do not recommend it to anyone else. read more
