Our waiter was Aaron, and he was excited to have us as first-timers to this restaurant period (as there is another up by May and Memorial area, and this one opened just around a month ago). He was also very excited about my birthday. My dad is not used to Asian food like this, and he took the time to help us through the menu and make choices. We were there for the all-you-can-eat lunch special. Aaron also explained how it worked, as there are some guidelines for it. Make sure you read those or ask your server - leaving any sushi leftovers results in additional charges. It's a great way to avoid wasting food, so plan accordingly!
My dad likes to talk to the wait staff and get to know them when we go places. Both Aaron and the rest we encountered were all very nice and seemed happy to be there. After we ordered, it took no time to get food on the table. I didn't time it, but I'd guess 5 minutes to start seeing all the items we ordered.
We ordered appetizers, main dishes, and had some sushi rolls. This list: black pepper seared ahi tuna, yellowtail fish with jalapeños, pork and buns, chicken katsu, hibachi steak, rock roll, avocado eel roll, and strawberry and green tea ice cream. The sauces were spicy mayo, eel sauce, and katsu sauce, and you could get wasabi and ginger.
I enjoyed everything! My dad liked it, but he is not into food like this. I'd say it was a success for someone that eats mostly American cuisine. He enjoyed the chicken katsu the most, which was also my favorite but I went in knowing I wanted that over anything. The hibachi steak was very tender and juicy with a delicious sauce. The raw fish appetizers were good, and they had a great delicate taste. I'd recommend either but if you wanted to pick one the ahi tuna is always my favorite. Pork and buns were a choice I figured dad would like more than the fish, it's an easy menu choice for someone uncertain of the menu.
Finally, the sushi. It was good! Not the best I've had, but it's worth going for if you want AYCE sushi. You get 4-5 pieces per roll, which is honestly enough for 2-3 people to share and try more rolls without getting overly full. There are so many signature options that I need to go back and try more. I'm already planning a trip back with my husband. Dad and I had the rock roll first. I wish I could remember what all was on it, but it was tasty and pretty. I didn't care for the masago on top, but it was the texture and that's always a possible issue with sushi for me. If you don't mind masago, it's good. I tried it anyway because of the combo of other foods in the roll. Then we tried a basic favorite of mine, my baseline sushi roll from any place, the avocado eel roll. It was not the best I've had, and the eel was a sandpaper texture that can happen sometimes with eel. Still, it was good.
We ended the visit with a surprise birthday song from the staff, which was so sweet. I didn't expect that. Aaron recommended strawberry and green tea ice cream mixed, so I had that for dessert. I was very excited because I've been craving green tea ice cream. It was an excellent palette cleanser.
If you want a good AYCE Asian cuisine, this is the place. And the lunch prices are definitely worth it. Eat there so they stay in business and Yukon keeps some yummy katsu, hibachi, and sushi all in one place!
