Before the cleaning, the unit was pretty dusty, and there were stains in the toilet and kitchen that I had personally tried to remove for months. I tried a lot of things but just couldn't get those annoying stains off. A few days before my move-out, I decided to call MasterCare and schedule their cleaning service. The service was excellent. They sent a 2-person cleaning team, and the total cleaning took about 4 hours. They magically cleaned the stains that I couldn't manage to remove after months of effort (seriously, I don't know how they did it lol) They cleaned inside the windows, oven, closets, floors, ceilings, and even areas like behind the refrigerator. Everything was cleaned very thoroughly. After they finished, they asked me to check the unit to make sure everything looked good. When I checked, the floor was clean like a mirror(literally reflective lmao see photo I attached) (no exaggeration). The communication with the cleaning team was also very smooth. They were friendly, professional, and did an excellent job, honestly better than I expected. Given the quality of work they did, I think the price is very reasonable. (Some random and weird thoughts: I'm a CS student doing research in AI and robotics, and watching them clean actually made me think that it would be pretty hard to design a robot or RL algorithm that could match their level of cleaning expertise lol +1 point to the human team) After the cleaning, my property managers inspected the unit and said it looked great, so it seems like I'll be getting my full deposit back, which I'm very happy about. I also had great communication with Linda, the company's manager. She is efficient, responsive, and professional, and the whole communication process was very smooth. To start, the work was scheduled to begin on a Monday between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. I already was not thrilled with such a large arrival window, but I accepted it. What was not acceptable was that no one showed up and no one called. I rearranged my morning and ended up being late to my own job for no reason. There were also repeated communication failures during the project. At one point, I was told the water would be shut off on a Monday, so I had my renters make plans to be away so they would not be inconvenienced by having no water. Monday came and went, and the water was never shut off. Apparently their plans had changed, but no one communicated that to us. When they finally did shut the water off, it was handled in a way that created a completely unnecessary burden. On one occasion, the guest house was without water all day and overnight. On a different day, the main house was also without water all day and overnight. In my opinion, this was avoidable. I had already run the main line to both houses. They only needed to run piping from those lines to the water heaters. That work should have been staged so everything else was prepped first, with the final tie-ins done once the glue had cured, keeping the water interruption to maybe an hour or two. Instead, two families were significantly inconvenienced, and the attitude I got was that this was standard and no big deal. Another issue was professionalism on site. One of the workers was loudly yelling and swearing in the crawlspace, including repeated profanity. This was not a vacant construction site. This is a home where people live. I was grateful my wife and kids were not around to hear it. After the plumbing work was completed, I finished enclosing the relocated washer and dryer area by framing, insulating, and drywalling the space. When I finally hooked up the machines and ran a load of laundry, the room flooded because water backed up and poured out of the in-wall washing machine drain. I called Anacapa Plumbing, and since this happened just a couple of days after they finished the job, I expected a prompt and professional response. I was told someone would come that afternoon. No one came. Then I was told they would send someone the next day. A plumber eventually came while I was at work, stayed about an hour, and left without any communication. Hours later, I still had no idea whether the problem had been fixed or whether it was safe to use the washing machine. I had to call and leave a message to find out. Later I was told it was okay to use, followed by a $270 bill for that visit. The billing was another major issue. The original estimate was around $15,000. The final bill came in at about $20,000, plus the additional $270. That is roughly a 25% increase with no meaningful communication, warning, or explanation during the job. In fairness, I did add a small amount to the scope by having them run about 25 feet of hot and cold PEX with two shutoff valves, but I do not believe that justifies an extra $5,000. For context, I am a General Contractor and have been for 18 years. I often try out subcontractors on my own properties before using them on residential client projects. Anacapa Plumbing was one of several companies recommended to me locally. Based on this experience, I would not use them again, and I would not recommend them to others. P.S. It's hard to write this, because we wanted to move on from it, but not sharing it would be irresponsible. The first sitter, Alex, showed up four hours late on her very first day, claiming she slept through her alarm. She was rarely on time after that. We needed help in the early mornings due to the ages of our children (five and one), but she couldn't consistently wake up. Out of desperation, we shifted her hours to the afternoon. We should've ended things then, but Trudie told us no other sitters were available. We had no other leads and were in a difficult spot. Then Alex showed up without a working phone. My mother-in-law had to send her out immediately to get one so she could communicate and call 911 if needed. That same shift, Alex disappeared for five hours without communication. At that point, we started connecting the dots. She was using the bathroom every 20 minutes and never flushed -- strongly suggesting she wasn't using it for its intended purpose. Afterward, her speech would speed up, her volume increased, and her behavior turned manic. She vented personal problems, said she records phone calls, and would talk compulsively even if no one was in the room. She constantly forgot instructions, routines, and basic information. Instead of support, she brought instability and confusion. When we raised concerns, Trudie first said Alex had bladder issues, then later told us on the phone, "I don't think she has bladder problems -- we'll be cutting ties." The implication we were left with was concerning -- and hard to interpret as anything other than potential drug use. Why did we stay with the agency after this? Because Trudie and Alex repeatedly framed it as a fluke. We were given apologies, reassurances, and promises: "This has never happened before and will never happen again." When you're exhausted, working, and trying to keep your home stable for your kids, you want to believe people will do the right thing. That trust was completely broken. Trudie said she wanted to make things right and told us she would be sending one of her top nannies to correct the situation. We took her at her word -- and that's how Samantha came into our home. The second sitter, Samantha, seemed fine at first -- but within days, her behavior unraveled. At one point, she told us, "My meds are wearing off." If you're caring for young children, that's something you manage, not let slide. It was disturbing. She began compulsively reorganizing the house -- opening every drawer, removing items, hiding them in strange places. One drawer is still missing. She laid out our 5-year-old's clothes in piles outside in the courtyard. On her last day, she stayed until 10pm, uninvited, and her behavior was disoriented and erratic. Then she accused us of offering her alcohol -- an accusation that was completely false. We don't drink, and there's no alcohol in our home. She also overbilled us by 12 hours. We had to catch the mistake, correct it, and still paid her in full -- yet another burden from a service that was supposed to reduce stress. Only after everything fell apart did we find a one-star Yelp review from July 15, 2019 describing nearly the exact same experience: unstable sitters, drinking, clients blamed. Trudie's public response to that review was defensive and unprofessional. Based on what we experienced, we expect the same here. Trudie seems far more interested in protecting her image than in addressing serious safety concerns in her business. What Beach Baby Nannies offers is not safety, not professionalism, and certainly not peace of mind. What they deliver is emotional volatility, unscreened risk, and zero accountability -- repackaged as a luxury service. We're sharing this so no other family, especially one already in a vulnerable position, has to go through what we did.
