I liked that the bathroom has a bathtub - was exactly what I felt like after a long day of travelling. The check in process is simple and the staff are lovely and polite. We were treated like royalty, reception booked us in for our evening meal at Castell Deudreath (the more modern hotel and restaurant in Portmeirion Village) and even booked the complimentary taxi service for us so we didn't have to walk up the hill. The meal was superb and the taxi brought us back to our hotel when we were finished. Our room was perhaps a little dated but charming all the same and very pretty and this was all forgotten the folowing morning when we woke up to breakfast in bed and the gorgeous view of the estuary as the sun slowly rose in the sky. I long to return to The Hotel Portmeirion again to fully explore the village and enjoy the tranquility and service we experienced there.

This place is a large building encompassing a pub (the cambrian) the hotel upstairs and a…read morerestaurant - popular with tourists, students and locals the hotel is situated opposite the train station and is often a popular stop on a pub crawl -the cambrian is famous for its cocktails - pint glasses full of a mix of whatever you choose (there are lots of funny named options to choose from) th prices in this place seem to go up and up and up but it doesnt seem to stop the popularity and its always really busy - there is another bar upstairs as part of the hotel that isnt open to the public like the downstairs bar - I think they could encompass this somehow with the main bar to create more space. There is a pool table at the back of the pub which is always really busy and you can either get bar meals or go through to the restaurant for something to eat

Set at the top of the little High Street in Bishops Castle, the view stretched for miles across the immaculate English and Welsh countryside. There is a vast amount of space, with lots of large tables for big parties and a stretch of grass where children and dogs ran freely, out of the way of the tables. The pub served lots of lovely locally brewed ales, my friends and I enjoyed many a Shropshire lad! Although I didn't have chance to sample the food, it smelt and looked delicious. I am now seriously considering moving to Shropshire.

Once you get there you get a choice of pork, beef, lamb & sometimes turkey. You can have more than 1 of the meats too. The carvery has every sort of veg dish you can think of. Even mushy peas, sweetcorn, butterbeans if you want that sort of thing on your sunday roast. There is always a massive pile of roast spuds, roast parsnips & a giant pot of gravy. However I just dont get the condiment system, regular supermarket pots of mint sauce, apple sauce, mustard etc. Which isn't really enough for the sheer quantity of people that eat at their carvery. If it's not busy get a drink, some cutlery and bag a table, then go queue for your food. But as I said earlier be prepared for a long wait on a busy day. They do the carvery everyday too weekdays, last time I had a weekday carvery there it was cheaper than the sundays. You can also get a carvery to go, they will put it in a plastic tray. The decor is oldy worldy black adn white pub sort of thing, horse brasses, lots of dark brown wood, sticky carpet in places. Good clean toilets though. Loads of tables everywhere. But massive plus is the outdoor area, it's great. After the plate and meat, all the rest is self service so you can pile it on your plate and have 3 yorkshire puddings :) Well worth trying out this place!
