The Red Lion is a friendly pub in the heart of Llanidloes (the village can give off a distinctly snobbish vibe at times so the reception at this pub was very welcome and refreshing) and has lots to offer. There are lots of big flat-screen TVs, a jukebox, dartboard, pool table, outside seating area, two bars (one filled with lovely red leather sofas) and accommodation. On the Wednesday night I visited, there was a group of musicians in the sofa bar laying and singing folk songs and in the other room, the football was on the TV, there was a group of locals playing cards, others laying pool and darts and lots of people sat at the bar having a chat. A couple of them were speaking Welsh to each other, which was a treat for me, as a fellow Welsh speaker!
There is a wide range of drinks on offer. I tried the award winning Golden Arrow pale ale and it was delicious.
If I'm in that neck of the woods again, I will definitely make the Red Lion my base! read more
