Have eaten here many times with family and friends. Recently stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the country house atmosphere. Basic room rate gives excellent value - although you will pay more for a larger room with a view - and the rooms are all individually furnished in 'boutique' style.
This place is not immaculate and there are bits which are in need of refreshing, but don't let that put you off. The hall with it's huge fireplace and splendid staircase is a lovely place to sit and read. The bar is comfortable and friendly, although the single real ale is not always available, and the food - whilst not 'cordon bleu' - is good.
In fact, this is one of the most popular eateries around and is packed out most evenings, so don't forget to book. The bar, in particular, can become a bit of a scrum early-evening as large parties arrive for the restaurant and function rooms.
Plenty of parking and set in delightful grounds. read more
