The kids had a great time feeding and petting the animals and riding the horses. It was such a peaceful getaway and Pam the host was so charming and helpful. The nearby towns of Penn Valley and Nevada city were higher end then a lot of the other western towns I had been to around California and had some great dining options. We were able to visit the mining museum and stop over in Tahoe to see some snow for the kids. The estate also had a great hot tub and we were able to bbq steaks at night and there was plenty of outdoor space for dining. We had a great restful time and it was a great weekend getaway. Pam even made us home made breakfast and dinner which was also delightful! Highly recommend!

I was traveling with family and friends, including two energetic 7 year old girls who are nuts for animals (with the attention span of a gnat). Pam's place is majestic, a quick hour to skiing, hiking, etc. At first we felt we were MILES into the sticks but once we got our bearings it was a very quick 10-minute drive out to the store. We didn't cook much but if we had to there were pots and pans, a nice-sized cuisinart hot plate (everything there is top of the line!!), a Kuerig coffee pot with biodegradable pods (which we appreciated). The wine fridge was enough to keep some groceries if you wanted. And by groceries, I stored beer in there. The kids loved movie night on the big screen TV, doing crafts around the beautiful kitchen table, and of course going down to see the horses. The large tub, we couldnt get them out of it...which was absolutely perfect, they were filthy at the end of each day! We enjoyed the massive show the sky gave us come night time! Stars galore! Pam was over the top generous with her time. Memories of the ranch and the space Pam has created for her furry, four-legged family will live warmly in our hearts until we return.

The only reason why we were so hesitant about going was because of the raging fires happening throughout NorCal. We decided to go anyway, because we weren't going to pass up on the opportunity. A week before, I called the Lake Oroville Visitor Center because I wanted to see whether it was possible to head down to the Oroville Damn, or at least what's remaining of it. If you haven't been living under a rock, you'll know that the damn spillway cracked in half in 2017 because of the extreme flooding and they've been repairing it since then. Well, a lovely park ranger on the phone told us that we could definitely drive NEARBY the damn and grab pictures. She also recommended we stop by the visitor's center for recommendations around the area. And that's exactly what we did. After surviving an intense, 8 mile hike to and from the gorgeous Feather Falls (https://www.yelp.com/biz/feather-falls-trail-oroville), we made a pit stop the next day at the Lake Oroville Visitor Center. It was only about 45 or so minutes from where we stayed in Marysville and all we had to do was drive up Highway 70 and then east on Highway 162. The visitor center had a pretty big parking lot, there was a large picnic area, and we saw deer roaming around! Not knowing what to expect, we bravely went inside the visitor's center. I honestly believe that the woman who approached us was the same as the one who talked to me on the phone because this lady was SUPER NICE. She eagerly ushered us into the theater room and showed us a zoomed-in image of the Oroville Damn. She discussed the history of the damn and then proceeded to walk us through how to drive to the road nearest the damn that just opened up! Afterwards, she suggested we check out the tower structure that's at the visitor's center. I highly recommend it because that 3 story tower provided AMAZING 360 degree views of the surrounding area. Before we left, we asked if she had any other places we should go to and she also directed us to Bidwell Bridge - supposedly the oldest suspension bridge in the U.S.? We would eventually go there, and had a really fun time! Need to give a major shout-out to the people at the Lake Oroville Visitor Center because they gave us a few awesome things to do for our Sunday morning in the Butte County area. What a hidden gem! This visitor center has a "free" interactive museum showcasing how the dam was…read moreengineered; the history of the native Yahi Indian culture and of Ishi, Oroville, and the local fish and wildlife. My favorite exhibit was the story and photos of Ishi. The center also has a viewing tower which is accessible by stairs or elevator. You can see the dam. Don't worry if you are afraid of heights. The tower is not very tall. Plus it has coin operated telescopes. But I put a quarter in one of the telescopes...it didn't work. I suggest bringing your own binoculars, if you have one, because the center is on top of the ridge overlooking the dam with pretty nice views. The center also is the starting point to several easy 1-1.5 mile round trip hikes. To boot the parking is free and the lot is paved. So come on and visit the center, soak up nature and a bit of fun facts...all free. Oh by the way, the road to the dam is off limits to the public still due to repairs. Per the center docent, there is no ETA on when it will open back up.

All of the sites we had were nice a shady and easy to walk around it. The bear boxes were clean. The toilets were clean and FLUSHED! I had assumed we had vault toilets so it was a nice surprise. The people who run the campsites are very sweet and always checked in on us but gave us our privacy! We brought citronella candles because of the bees/bugs and it kept them at bay. None of us were stung, they are not aggressive at all. We cohabitated well for the weekend. The location is super close to the water and has the boat ramp if you like to do that. Overall, beautiful campsite. However - you do get cell service w/ AT&T or Verizon unfortunately lol. We are coming back again this year! Highly recommend.

Wife & I stayed here on a Thursday and Friday night with our 3 & 5 year old girls. We made…read morereservations online but it wasn't even necessary as the place was empty when we arrived at 2pm Thursday. Most of the good sites are first come, first serve and are not part of the online reservation system. We quickly discovered our reserved site did not offer much shade so we switched to one of the better first come, first serve sites. The host, JD, was very accommodating. The reservoir is beautiful and most of the sites are very well shaded. The campsites all have a nice picnic table, good size fire ring and charcoal grill. All were in good shape. IMO the campsites are spaced a little close together and there is not much cover in between. I normally prefer to stay at more remote non pay sites but since we now have two little girls, the running water and flush toilets were an absolute necessity. Bathrooms are kept clean and stocked. The area is beautiful and Bassi Falls is a short drive and an easy .5 mile hike each way. My little ones walked it no problem. Bassi Falls is very pretty with a fast running falls in Spring and several pools below to keep cool in. The kids will love it. I would rate this place five stars except for the fact that both nights, there were rude, inconsiderate and noisy campers. Quiet time here is 10pm-6am. First night (Thursday) another camper showed up and camped in the spot next to us. Now mind you, we're the only two campers in the campground with 40 sites and they camp right next to us. Unbelievable! Of course they were loud and up late (1-2am) talking and laughing. The next night, Friday, everyone starts coming in. There was an argument and swearing between 2 groups of campers over a parking space and then one of those groups who was 4 sites away from us down the road was up late partying and talking loud. Plus they had a barking dog. Nice! Finally at 11:30pm the camp host had to tell them to shut it down and they were quiet after that. I really like this campground, but I will only camp here Mon-Thurs nights. I guess I should add that to make this place a completely perfect campground, the camp host(s) should do a walk through of the campground every night around 10:15-10:30pm to make sure the campers are adhering to the 10pm-6am quiet time rules. To many yahoos come to campgrounds and think it's an open invitation to party and be as loud as they want with no consideration of their fellow campers.
