I price-compared a ton of NYC moving companies and J & G gave me a competitive moving quote. Additionally, the building I was moving into required a certificate of insurance (COI) and J & G was able to offer it for me for free. A lot of other companies charge for this. Before moving, I communicated with them via email and they always responded promptly and were very clear about what their moving package included. The day of the move, they called and asked if it was okay if they came an hour early. They were very communicative with me during the whole move. The lead guy (forgot his name!) assessed how many things I had and then discussed with the other 2 men on how to efficiently approach the move. The 3 men were over 6' tall and strong, and they were able to finish my whole move in a little more than 1 hr! I did not have anything that was easily breakable but the men treated my things with care. They provided blanket and shrink wrapping for all of my furniture. Everything was loaded up into their truck very quickly. These guys wasted no time. When I arrived at my new apartment building, they had already started unloading my things. I had my boxes labeled with what was inside (i.e., kitchen supplies, shoes, jackets) and they actually placed each box in the corresponding room. Best of all, there were no hidden fees. They ended up not charging me a processing fee that was included in the quote and gave me $40 off my quoted price. The movers were so friendly, communicative and professional, I will definitely be using J & G Moving again! I also wanted to note that on the day of my move, the street I was moving from was blocked due to construction. J & G movers did not complain or make any mention of that until I had stepped outside of my apartment building and noticed it. The staff who came to pack and transport our items were elderly, lacked professional equipment, and were in no physical condition to move heavy furniture. A cabinet that was meant to be shipped together with the other furniture, they refused to take, claiming it was impossible. We had carefully measured and documented everything that was to be shipped and had reached an agreement with the moving company, yet we received no price reduction on the total shipping cost. Almost all of the furniture suffered minor damage, two chairs were completely broken, and the worst part--as mentioned--was the loss of the painting and the armchair. And there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. The Dutch partner company responsible for the transport in Europe was able to show through shipping documents that the painting and the armchair were never shipped from the United States.

They scheduled a zoom/facetime walk-thru of my apartment to see what I needed and to give me a better quote. I had started packing already and got all my own boxes so it was easy to see what I had left. What I really liked was the 'no BS' hidden fees. It was one price that wouldn't change, no matter the hours or added last minute box. Of course my move was scheduled and it had to snow. Thankfully this didn't stop them. 4 guys showed up right on time (during a snow storm on a friday morning rush hour in the city). They walked thru and got a game plan, then brought up all the blankets and plastic wrap and got to work. TVs were dismounted and put in boxes, mattresses were put in boxes as well. The amount of blankets they used to wrap my furniture made me so happy. While they took their time, they were still hustling - running from the truck to the apartment. Once we got to my new place, they covered my stairs with runners and wore plastic booties to ensure my floors weren't messed up. The only thing I was disappointed about was that my couch didn't fit thru the garage entry so it was left in the garage.
