As far as buses go -- they are my favorite. I've been taking them for over a year now, and there are good days and bad, but overall -- it's a great company and I'm sticking to them. Their buses run on time, drivers are great, they give you water, keep their buses quite clean, you don't need to print anything -- just show your phone, if you need to make any changes prior to departure -- they make it hustle-free -- just a quick call and they'll refund or exchange. On the negative side -- there have been a few reps that were having a bad day, but all in all -- five stars. read more

Really appreciate the alternative to flying or Amtrak. My husband and I found World Wide Bus through a Groupon we bought. Used for a R/T from Manhattan to Boston on a last-minute get away trip to Cambridge for New Years. Really impressed overall. The buses were prompt and the drivers helpful when we had questions. As a travel alternative, World Wide exceeded my expectations. Trip notes: In our experience, we did not make a pit stop on the way from NY to Alewife. However, on our return trip from Alewife to NY, the driver stopped at a Rob Roy's for about 20 minutes. An additional driver took one of the very front seats which seemed to be a preferred seat - not sure if he was being trained, but it would be nice to leave those for customers who were first in line - just a thought. The passengers were generally very quiet and respectful and we were able to snooze easily. read more

Great bus, great driver, made great time. Newton to NYC in 3 hours 45 minutes. Love the boarding pass system in Newton, no need to stand in line. And you get a bottle of water when you check in. All for $30? That's a deal. Driver stopped at BK on the way back Sunday night, nice to have a little break to stretch. 100% recommend over Bolt or Mega. Plus Riverside and Alewife are way easier to get to/park. read more

My trip from NYC to Boston on July 23 began with the driver shuffling people around who were already seated (the bus was filled) because she didn't want people in the front half of the bus talking on their cell phones. After much inconvenience and commotion, once on the road, two people in the third row struck up a conversation, as strangers who travel often do. I was in the row directly in front of them and I could not hear what they were saying. But the driver kept shouting at them to stop talking because it was "distracting" her. This went on throughout the trip, she yelled several times for people to stop talking because it distracted her from driving. (BTW no one was using a cell phone.) In Newton, another GoBus staff person got on the bus, sat in the front seat, and they chatted all the way to Alewife. This driver does not appear to have the psychological stability required for driving 55 people at high speeds. It was a frightening experience. Also there was no air conditioning on the Sunday trip, it was a hot hot day and we sweltered. En route to NYC the previous Friday, we froze until someone spoke to the driver, who turned the AC off and then we sweltered the rest of the way. Both rides were uncomfortable, and one was unsafe. read more

The stop for GO bus at Alewife is very hard to find and on top of it all they don't answer their customer service phone, and when you finally get a hold of them they are rude. read more

I needed to schedule a trip and made a mistake, as I only got one way tickets and not round trip like intended. When I called to sort it out the woman was SO impatient and rude (I'm not the type to complain either I know how hard jobs can be) I'm only writing this review to let people know about customer service and if they need good customer service help this is not the bus for you. Too bad I didn't get a greyhound maybe this is my fault.... read more

Update: finally, second shift driver showed up at 9:15pm after we have been waiting for 65mins. I should have read all these reviews before I purchased tickets -------------------------------- Our family is taking 3:30pm bus from New York to Boston today, 8/29/2017. It is supposed to stop by in Providence and second-shift driver will continue. However, today no second-shift driver. First shift driver finished his job and let all the passengers wait, meanwhile he said he did not know how long we have to wait. We have been waiting here for 50 mins, from 8:10 to 9:00pm. We do not know when we can leave and continue heading to Boston. What if second shift driver never show up tonight? ( I will update) This is my first time to take Go Bus, and definitely it is my last time! Stay far away from Go Bus! read more

I had a good experience taking Go Buses both ways between Cambridge and New York this weekend. The tickets were very cheap and the driving was good. Free water was nice, and bathroom was decently clean. I didn't have anyone in the seat next to me on either trip (most people didn't on the way from Cambridge to NY, while most people did share seats on way from NYC to Cambridge). The only bad part was boarding in Cambridge. They boarded from a temporary stop at Alewife Station, but there was no information about this in their emails or on their website. I called customer service after thinking I missed the bus and had to leave a voicemail. Eventually I connected with someone who gave me location, but this was a very frustrating experience. They need to make Alewife boarding location easier to find. I did not experience any issues when boarding in New York. read more

I expected a smelly, crowded, loud unpleasant bus experience for $40 round trip. But I can't say enough about how clean and convenient this bus service is! What a great experience! *Departs/arrives Cambridge or Newton and at the NW corner of 31st and 8th across from Penn Station in NYC. *Parking at Riverside station/Grove St. in Newton is $6.75/24 hours, $5.75/partial day--much more affordable than parking in Boston if you have to drive to the bus pick-up point. *Wonderful bus driver John greeted us with hard candy and chocolate. Free water is a nice touch. *Bus was beautiful and clean...lovely almost-absent scent of new upholstery. Bus driver hung small trash bags on each aisle and we even got pillows! Bus was nearly empty. Driver showed me how to position my pillow against the aisle armrest and put my legs up against the wall for ultra comfort--I could have hugged him. *Free WiFi was easy to access. We arrived seven minutes early, just under 3.5 hours! Amazing. *Ride back was crowded and WiFi was slower; traffic and rain delayed the bus to a 4-hour ride, but I still believe World Wide Bus is the best-kept secret way to travel between NYC and BOS! I will never again go any other way! read more

I booked through a third-party seller, as I often do to find low prices. When I needed to cancel my reservation, I called Go Buses and was informed that although usually reservations can be cancelled more than 24 hours in advance of the trip, the specific seller I used had a policy which nullified Go Buses' and made a refund impossible. The customer service agent insisted that "this has nothing to do with my company." When I contacted the seller, they told me Go Buses has a policy of not issuing refunds for tickets purchased through any third-party seller. Sure enough, this policy is in the FAQ on Go Buses' website, and even in some fine print I missed when ordering the tickets, which the seller pointed out was provided by Go Buses. This is a lousy policy - when I book a flight through a third-party seller the usual rules for cancellation and changes apply. I should have read the fine print more carefully, but come on. Mostly they get one star for lying about it. read more

Took the bus from Riverside Station to NYC this past weekend and have done that same journey many times in the past. The bus was on time (actually arrived in NYC a little early!), clean with good wi-fi. Price is hard to beat. I will admit the "check-in" at Riverside is not obvious if it's your first time using the bus. You actually have to go into the building there, show your ticket and they will give you a little boarding pass. I'll continue to use this bus line for my journeys between NYC and the Boston area since it's easy, cheap and reliable read more

Every time I take their bus this year, it is never there on time. This is very disrespectful of its users!

For all the times Fung Wah was shady I've never been abandoned on the side of the road. You can read below the review(s) about the Sunday bus from NYC to Boston where the driver quit and left us on the side of 95 at a rest stop and we ended up getting home at 2 am. But what really IRKS me is that after calling GoBus on Monday, (god forbid they reach out to me and try to do some damage control) I've just had to call back on Friday and figure out wtf is going on. Am I going to get refunded for enduring the bus ride from hell? Am I getting a voucher? Am I getting both? What is wrong with this people and their communication services?! Screw getting bottled water, that shit is bad for the environment anyway. read more

Worst service. The bus is NEVER the 4.5-5 hours they say it will be. I take this line out if convenience to parking my car at Riverside station, and strictly for that. The drivers are not friendly, they stop even when the route isnt scheduled for one and they NEVER update you. Most trips take close to 6+ hours and you should plan to sit with a total stranger and never rely on a seat alone! read more

We got a bus ticket to nyc today and when we could not make the time specified we called the customer service line several times with no answer. When we finally got through to them they said they could not change it because we called after the scheduled bus time. They would not allow us to ride the next schedule bus unless we paid an extra fare. Most other buses give the common courtesy of allowing us on if the bus is not full. I will NEVER be using them again. Very unreasonable. read more

I was a little worried after reading all of the negative reviews on here but my experience using Go Bus from Cambridge to NYC was fine. It sounds like it might be hit or miss. If you're willing to take the risk, it may work out. For me, it was convenient departing from alewife and the schedule also worked out for the event I was trying to make. A few items to note that may be helpful to you: 1. Both buses going down and coming back up were very much on time. You want to make sure you get there at least ten minutes before, if not more. 2. The alewife pick up location is different than what is noted at the bottom of the confirmation email. I did receive a follow up email saying that the location was temporarily moved to Steele Pl and this location was consistent with what their website stated. If you're unsure, you should call. 3. Although the schedule stated we'd get into the city by 1045 am, it was closer to 1115. We would've gotten there on time but the driver went into NJ and took the Lincoln tunnel in which added on the extra time. In the big picture and compared to some of the other delays I read about, I realize it's not a big deal. I'm on the bus back up now and it looks like we'll be arriving only five minutes later than the estimated time which is great. 4. The bus schedule I chose was express so there were no other stops but the one in Newton. I liked that. Just get me where I need to go. That was another reason why I chose this company. 5. The drivers weren't super friendly but they weren't rude either. I don't need the former as long as you get me from point A to point B safely which they did. 6. We got water on the way there but not on the way back. I didn't really care for it so it's fine. 7. There was WiFi but I kept getting kicked off every time I closed my phone. If I had to get work done, I might've been more annoyed if it didn't work consistently. 8. The seats were comfortable enough. I couldn't figure out how to push it back but people had theirs slightly reclined so it was possible. Overall, I'd probably use this bus company again mainly because it leaves out of alewife and my experience was for the most part positive. read more

We took GoBuses to and from NYC via Cambridge, MA. The buses are clean, they were timely, and the convenience of departing and returning from Alewife is tough to beat. I will echo other reviewers in noting that that wifi isn't reliable, worked on the departing trip but not the return trip. They get the full five stars for their handling of cancellation of our original return trip, due to a Nor'easter. No one wants to have a trip of any kind delayed or cancelled. However, GoBuses emailed us notifying of the cancellation of service a bit before noon on the day before our scheduled trip and asked us to call customer service. When I called in they gave us the option of leaving early, that evening, or at various times on the day after next. This advance notice and providing the free rescheduling options were greatly appreciated and what I'd expect from a modern and well managed company. They cannot control the weather but they can and did respond to it in a thoughtful and helpful manner. (As an aside, we didn't immediately reschedule with GoBuses since we checked with Greyhound before doing so. Greyhound was still allowing bookings for the following day and confirmed they would still be running service when we called to ask. So, we booked tickets for the following day with Greyhound for a 1PM departure. We arrived the next day at the bus station to find a note on the ticket window stating that all bus service that day was cancelled - no email, no automated phone call, a note on the ticket window, like it's 1980. The lack of any kind of advance notice that service had been cancelled that day was completely unacceptable and resulted in us wasting half a day getting to the bus station. The lack of advance notice was also in addition to telling us the previous day that service would be running. We ultimately refunded the Greyhound purchase and went with GoBuses the next day.) read more

I accidentally left an item in the overhead when I got off of the bus, but didn't realize until I had made it back to my apartment. I went to their website and sent them an email explaining the situation. When I heard back from them, they had located my stuff, but it was back in the Boston office(I was in NY). I was expecting to be paying for shipping or waiting until I was back in Boston to get it, but Eric, the person I was dealing with suggested the option of putting it on one of the buses, and I could just grab it when it came in. We worked out a time, and I will be picking it up this afternoon. read more

UPDATE: 03-30-15: the line is operating on a much more efficient clip and trip time is back to a more consistent time of 4.5 hours on average (as Academy Bus, who took over the service, has ironed out a lot of the kinks.) UPDATE: 08/23/2014: Worse to AWFUL. Each trip is taking at least five hours with no traffic and the driver routinely take a long break in between which easily adds 30 minutes to the trip. Not to mention most drivers pick the longest route possible, this is easily the worst this ride has ever been. Nice going Academy. Hey, and some power outlets would be nice. UPDATE: 8/12/14: Now Academy Bus service (out of NY/NJ) runs the GoBus line from Boston/NYC, and it's not off to a good start. The bus from Boston to NYC I just recently took was a straight out of the 80's. No WiFi, no Power, seats jammed together. The saving grace was there was minimal traffic, but this is not a good change of corporate scenery. It's getting worse again folks. UPDATE: 04/16/14: So after numerous emails, I finally got hold of the web manager and fixed everything. If anyone has any similar or related issues, here is the email for the IT department: HelpDesk@twinamerica.com. They were pretty prompt, but go directly to them. The woman who is in charge, Christina Petrino, is very unhelpful. She stated that it was my credit card error, not the site, which was totally incorrect. UPDATE: 3/7/14: Here's a new one. Upon finding out that my account kept rejecting purchases, I called both the NYC and Newton, MA numbers (617-795-9400) to ascertain what the problem is. Unfortunately, there is no IT department available, and thus no one there could find what was wrong with my account. Obviously, this is a problem because there could be theft issues. When I asked Newton to purchase a ticket for me, I was advised that the home system couldn't do it also. I subsequently purchased a ticket from BoltBus. Absolutely no problems. UPDATE: 01/25/14: Service has improved. Although the departures from NYC to Boston tend to leave anywhere from 5-15 minutes late overall the drivers have done a better job circumventing traffic although most insist on taking 95 South through the CT coastline which can be a parking lot. UPDATE: 12/20/13: Hope springs eternal. The service in transit seems to have improved although some drivers insist on traveling the 95 corridor despite rush hour traffic instead of the 84 route. That being said, departure times have varied depending on the driver (one left ten minutes late from Cambridge because he was getting an Old Fashioned Plain donut from Dunkin Donuts!). Plan on round trip travel time to average 5 hours. If you get 4 hours 30 minutes, you will be doing good. UPDATE: 9/28/13: It gets worse. Dispatch advised that the NYC/BOSTON route must take Route 95 which as anyone knows is usually a parking lot on the Connecticut coast. Thus best add at least another hour to your travel time. For some reason they don't advise the 684N/84N route which is much faster. Incompetence reigns. UPDATE: 9/27/13: Well, I had hoped that I wouldn't have to post this, but it happened again. From the 8am bus from Cambridge/Alewife to NYC om 9/26/12. the bus was 10 minutes late which obviously compounds for delays at the end. Adding insult to injury the brand new driver (who was being 'mentored' by an incompetent supervisor on the trip who didn't know how to drive in NYC), spent over an hour in NYC! driving around trying to find 31st and 8th, the destination point. For some reason, these newer drivers consistently take West Side routes that end up wasting time, thus we ended up landing at 120pm, a trip of 5.33 hours, clearly ridiculous for a trip with relatively no traffic. If you want to take a look at some of the similar gripes I had on this particular trip, check out this site on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/go-buses-ny-manhattan. Again WorldWideBus was much much better before this company took over: http://www.yelp.com/biz/world-wide-bus-new-york UPDATE: 08/22/13: Happy to report that the service on the NYC/Boston line has tightened up lately, and the service has improved. The WiFi has a lot to be desired since it's incredibly slow, and some of the outlets are still not working, but overall the trip time has decreased. The drivers also seem to be aware of avoiding traffic snarls avoiding the more congested routes (I mean with smartphones, every Maps app out there has a traffic report real time), and departing on time. Overall, much better. GoBus when it was known as Worldwide, was much more reliable and prompt. Ever since the changeover a few years ago, the service from Boston to NYC has gotten much more spotty. Outlets which used to be operable, can sometimes be broken (I found a busted piece of a charger stuck inside t read more

Zero stars if possible. We had booked tickets for a 3pm bus leaving from Alewife to Manhattan and had been waiting in the station from 1:30pm. The Alewife station has no AC in the waiting area and it was 95 degrees outside. We tried to get on the 2:30pm bus instead to escape the heat, but Go Buses wanted to charge us $26 to move up the half an hour time slot, even though the ticket only cost $30 to begin with and the bus was half empty anyway. Customer service was extremely rude in this whole ordeal. Never again going to ride with such a rude and unreasonable company. read more

The trip from Alewife to New York was on time (so much so that I thought my bf was going to miss the bus. He got there at 1:59 and we left at 2:00...). They handed out free water which was nice, but we already brought our reusable canteens :). Unfortunately, we didn't arrive early enough to grab a seat in the front/middle, so we had to endure the bathroom smells in the back. It wasn't that bad at first, but as more and more people did their business throughout the trip, I became determined to arrive EARLY on our way back to avoid sitting in the back again. The only complaints I have is that on the way back, most of the reading lights did not work. Plus, the driver didn't put the A/C on so it got a bit hot. I'd definitely take this bus again, since it's cheaper than the other lines and overall just as good. read more

Go Buses is the best in the business. I have relied on Go Buses' round trip from Newton MA to NYC for over a year now and have only positive things to say about this company and their service. The buses are clean and quiet and usually on time, the drivers are courteous and professional, the price is excellent, and the management cares about the customers. Thank you Go Buses! read more

Terrible experience. Driving from NYC to Boston, made the scheduled stop in Providence and the driver informed us something was wrong with the bus and we would be held until another one comes to get us... sucks but it happens. About 30 minutes went by and he came around and tells us to put our seatbelts on and that he would get us to our destination. Currently still on the road and in one piece but holy shit what is going on here. We left at 4:30pm, it's now 11pm and we are still not at the destination due to this interesting pit stop. Would not recommend this service read more

Bus left and arrived on time, seats were more comfortable than on Megabus and bathroom didn't smell. Plus they gave out bottled water.

Bus broke down on the way into Manhattan a couple months ago. Driver told us nothing for 20-minutes as we sat stuck in the middle of the roadway; heard him on the phone say, "It's the same thing that happened last time, bus stopped working." When I called to ask, I was told no refunds were being issued. No water bottles even once in 4-months leaving from Newton/Cambridge (so they should stop advertising they have them). Wifi is so slow it takes 20-seconds or more to email through gmail. They used to be good when they were WorldWide Buses, but are terrible now that GoBuses owns them. read more

World Wide Bus has all the amenities of Mega Bus and Bolt Bus with a considerably better user experience. Drivers and dispatchers are polite and professional. The buses are less crowded and always clean. I take the World Wide bus from Cambridge to New York and back again every other week and every time the bus has been there waiting when I arrived and left on time. I find the internet to be faster and more reliable than on the other bus lines and the buses almost always have outlets (the only time I was on a bus that didn't have outlets was when they were running extra buses because of a free ride promotion). Also, I personally find Newton and Alewife Station to be far more convenient and easy to navigate than South Station, where most buses leave from. At the risk of making the buses more crowded, I highly recommend World Wide Bus. read more

GoBus #9801 at Alewife bus terminal, 8/5/13 ran the engine from at least 7:27 to 7:45 pm, spewing noxious exhaust onto platforms into the faces of passengers waiting for MBTA buses. I have been riding Go Buses for years. Every time I've used this company I have felt like such a valued customer. The owners just changed and I think can explain my horrific experience. My friend and I wanted to travel together. She purchased 2 tickets. The minute she purchased them, she realized that she had purchased them at the wrong time. Truthfully, this has happened to me so many times before. The owners (or the OLD owners) were so accommodating. We immediately call the advertised customer service hotline. We can't get ahold of anyone. We show up the next morning and explain this to the person at Riverside. We explain that we've been loyal customers for years and that we mistakenly clicked the wrong box. We wanted to know if we could 1. transfer those tickets to correct time (a bus that was nowhere near being sold out) or use them for our return. The lady looked at me, clearly didn't, and said no. I got on that bus and felt so unappreciated for the years of loyal service. In the future, I am going to make a greater effort to take a bus company that at the very least listens to me. Note: the low rating was also based on the fact that 1. my seat was broken. It only reclined and didn't sit upright 2. It was so cold that my friend had to open up her suitcase and get layers upon layers. read more

Terrible customer service rep. The lady doesn't know what customer service means. She does more of the complaining and does not know how to problem solve. It's worthless to have a customer service rep who doesn't want to help or try to troubleshoot and instead answers I don't know or pins the solution to another vendor. The solution provided is not a real solution - more like pointing fingers. read more

Loving the WWB! I'm somewhat flighty, changed my return time several times and was accommodated each time. The bus was comfy, and not crowded, so everyone had 2 seats each. 5 stars for Virgil, the Cambridge dispatcher. Thanks for turning the bus around when I was 2 minutes late and generally being awesome!

We have been waiting for more than an hour (more like 1,5 hours) for our Go bus to NYC, and there is no sign at all. I am quite sure they just forgot about this and tried to send another bus saying that there is traffic- not this long, people. If I can be here in heavy traffic, they should have been too. Aaaaaand also there was no email, call, anything whatsoever to inform the customers. This is so so so unacceptable. By the way, reaching customer service was a pain as well. They have to refund our money. read more
