I had a good experience shopping at GNC with my mom. We were looking for supplements to help with sciatica pain. I wish I remembered the name of the guy who helped us, but he was very friendly and knowledgeable! I appreciated that he immediately knew of the top of his head what supplements normally help with sciatica. We ended up leaving with a small bottle of Alpha Lipoic Acid. This place is in a very busy area but close to the freeway. I would recommend going early. They have some good options here. The man who worked there was very helpful and was able to help me pick something. It's a little pricey but definitely worth the price. If I could rate negative stars I would. I had a coupon for a free life aide beverage . When I present the coupon the clerk a middle eastern man, said "I am not going to accept that coupon and you just want something for free"  I was highly insulted and explained that if he sent the coupon in he'd get reimbursed.  Then he said "get out of the store or I am going to call security".   We'll now I am annoyed, I said fine, he called the security and I explained that I was just trying to redeem a coupon, he said it was up to the clerk.  I asked the clerks name and he refused to give it to me.  I looked on-line and I believe his name is Shaheed.  Anyway, it's a matter of time before he goes out of business, I wouldn't recommend this store and a good business person doesn't treat people this way. I'm not a vitamin/supplement taker. One day my friend that was on a health kick wanted to come here and get a few things her doctor recommended. Upon entering the store I was very overwhelmed, after a few seconds of assessing my surroundings I realized this store was very neatly organized with big signs over different sections labeling the types of vitamin/supplements in each section. Before I finished getting my bearings a very helpful employee was helping my friend. I followed them around listening to his advice and the different benefits of the items as well as which one might taste better. Really helpful! This guy had me wanting to buy supplements, good sales person for sure. I refrained since I knew that I would take a few of the vitamins and then they would wind up on the top shelf of my cupboard never to be seen again. Seems I had a better experience then most yelpers. Apparently I love having the screaming shits and always worrying about whether or not the gas I am passing will have unexpected side effects on my underpants. Hence the reason I continue to subject my GI tract to NO Explode and Atro-Phex. I could buy my gym supplements online, but I am an instant gratification kind of guy. Why save myself 15 bucks and wait 5 days when I can have it NOW? So this GNC is my go-to for my supplement needs. Very helpful staff, which should be a no-brainer for a retailer. Plus, the staff makes recommendations without being too pushy. Major plus. Clean store, plenty of goodies to choose from and good location. Check GNC's website for coupons, too. I've worked out most of my life, and I have shopped at GNC countles times. However, I have to say that this was the best experience I have had yet. Bryant was not only welcoming, but he was extrmely friendly knowledgable. His knowledge of the products, the body, and how to get the results you want went way beyond the typical GNC sales rep. I walked in here today to see if they had the Cookies & Cream Quest bars, and then walked straight out! I already knew that other GNC's sold them for $26.99/box for non-members. I read some of the Yelp reviews about this place being way overpriced, but since this is the closest store to me I thought I'd give it a try. Do you want to know how much they charge for their Quest bars? $37.99!!! You're seriously trying to charge me $11 MORE than other GNC stores!? I went to the GNC Sunvalley mall, they confirmed that they sell there for $26.99 but they were out of stock (for the cookies & cream). THEN a friend of mine recommended I try Nutrishop by Kohl's and Marshall's... They sell there for $20/box! A-maze-balls. If you want GNC, I'd recommend the one at the mall. Back in 2011, I bought a Groupon to this GNC. Shame on me, but I never got around to using it. Life, what can I say? Life sometimes gets in the way of good intentions. Well, the DH recently began running and was interested in some post workout recovery. I remembered my ancient, expired, but still-good-for-the-amount-I-paid Groupon. After getting some recommendations (and geez Louise? Recovery powder stuff is ridiculously expensive!), we go to check out. The person manning the store doesn't know what to with he old Groupon. No harm, no foul. I point out that the amount I paid never expires, but he doesn't want to get into trouble and calls the owner. Still, reasonable... The owner refuses to honor the Groupon! Say, what? And when I politely request to speak to him, the owner tells me some lie about how they mailed the money back to Groupon. I reminded him that the Groupon clearly states that the amount I paid never expires. After reading the fine print to me, he won't budge. No deal. You know what? Their loss... I had about a $80 waiting to be checked out, clearly above and beyond what the Groupon would cover...and future purchases to come. But this store is never earning my business. Liars. read more

Typically I go to this store for all my supplement needs, whether its protein or multi-vitamins. The staff is exceptionally helpful at making recommendations. I cannot believe it was that expensive here compared to other local GNC's AND online...You are better off going to Nutrishop across the freeway for a better deal. So I came in wanting to buy Quest Protein as a gift. Gold Members get it for 39.99. Online it is 34.99, as well as surrounding GNC's such as Martinez and Sunvalley. I also had a coupon, and apparently I could not use it with my gold card... what? That is weird... Because right after this store, I ended up going to martinez GNC and bought the same protein brand for 24.99 with my coupon, whereas it would have been 39.99 at the pleasant hill GNC... I declined to purchase from this location and the guy helping me was totally chill about it. I do wonder why he did not know why it was cheaper online than in-store. I wish there was a Zero stars! Thanks to Yelp, I can vent a bit about the deceptive business practices of at least the Pleasant Hill store. PLUS, they are just store clerks as they don't have real product knowledge. Clearly the management and or store owner does not value their clientele. Twice I purchased protein powder and twice I got a bunch of bull regarding their return policy. With the 1st return, they refused to give me a full credit but rather base it on the "lowest price". By the way the powder was still the same price when I attempted to return it vs. when I originally purchased it. I asked the store clerk to have the manager call me. of course I never heard from this person. I attempted to return the 2nd horrible tasting powder within 2 weeks of the purchase (I had my receipt) and was told that they can't take the return. Also their staff are clueless about their products. Bottom line, go to Whole Foods, you can return anything at any time without any fictitious return policies. Or, even go to the new Vitamin Shoppe. Manager never accepts a return, they suck over there and I will NEVER GO BACK I bought this blender bottle (shaker) to have my shake every morning on ther go and 3 days after I bought it, I went back to return ir because the lid was cracked and the shake spills everywhere. They gave me a hard time... I didn't want to return anything, just replace it. Seriously... I live 30 minutes away from there and wasted my time and my money. THey also charge more. The service here sucks big time. I called because I was having trouble printing a coupon out from the GNC website for 20% off due to errors on the website. I spoke with a woman on the phone and she said bring in what I could print out (front page of website saying there was a 20% off coupon in store on online) and she would honor. It was just for that day so I drove over prepared to make a purchase. When I got there they would not honor the coupon and I was told to 'just order it online'. This is by far the worst GNC in the entire bay area. The prices are very high, the customer service is low. When I go in there I know more about what i am buying then they do. The owner will not budge on his prices. I do not understand how they stay in business. This is actually how I found natural life foods which has same stuff plus some and is way cheaper. There customer service is way better as well. (I do not work for natural life foods and am in no way associated with it.). Bottom line this place is horrible if I could give it negative stars I would. One example BSN supplement that raises testoserone in the mall 80$ a bit high but here it was 120$ ridiculous. so... allow me to clear a few things up. This persons review below me, Saleem is sorely mistaken, The owner is the one here who is rude. He is most likely the one who hassled you about returning your supplement as i have seen him do it to many people. He also raises the prices over what other GNC's have them. This store is a franchise not a corporate, which means that he has to abide by some of GNC policies but he gets to set his own prices and decide if he wants to participate in sales. Which is also why he only wants patrons to use their card as a credit instead of debit, so he is not charged a fee. So when you go there, you are supporting a local business, even if someone rude does own it. If you go to other GNC's usually they will do buy 1 get 1 deals, he does not. He is very rude and cares little for his employees or customers. All he cares about is making money. I would suggest that people research what they are talking about before posting on here. As there have been 2 employees there that have quit in the last month purely because of the owner. I work in downtown pleasant hill and frequent this establishment alot. read more

The owner of this store calls his employees "retarded" and "mentally ill." He gets angry so easily and takes it out on the employees. While my friend worked for this location, they received ZERO training of any sort, and was harassed daily for not knowing each product by heart, when the owner himself barely knows advanced nutritional knowledge. The employees must often work by themselves, cannot leave the store during breaks or lunches, and are sometimes asked to commute between this location and the other location (while working) owned by the same person, in Walnut Creek, without any sort of compensation. He doesn't pay employees for the time it takes them to open or close the store, so employees often have 30-45 minutes a day that may not be included in their paycheck. He also monitors his employees on camera their whole shift, and will call them every 5 minutes to micro manage. A previous employee is taking him to small claims court for the unethical treatment they experienced while working for this employer. I highly suggest you go to any other GNC location. This Pleasant Hill location, and the location in Walnut Creek at 1821 Ygnacio Valley Road, do NOT deserve anyone's business. read more

This is the only GNC I have ever been to where the employees actually know what they are talking about and appear to use some of the products. It's a joke walking into some of these other nutrition shops having some 350lb woman tell me how well a diet pill has worked for her. The selection of products is also great with plenty of products no other GNCs carry. The return policy has been more than fair, I guess some of these reviewers just try to abuse it like fools. I went into this gnc ONLY because I purchased a Groupon that I paid $19 for $40 worth of merchandise. I had questions about some products on the shelf. The clerk had no clue what they were, what they did, where they were made or what to expect. I asked if he could go on-line or check the stores computer for information. He couldn't. He told me I could make the purchase and if I was not satisfied, I could return the product. (as it also states on the back of the receipt) I tried to make AN EXCHANGE of the product. I spoke with an assistant manager, (after speaking with a female who said SHE was the manager and turned out to be an ASSISTANT mgr), I explained the situation. He said no problem, bring the product back and make the exchange. I went to the store, the owner was there. (I had tried to make contact with the owner for 2 weeks with no luck) He would not do the exchange without me paying the difference of the coupon. After trying to reason with this guy, I asked for my money back. Then their computer went down. He would not give me back MY original receipt. It was a ridiculous situation. I got a partial refund and now have to deal with Groupon. The staff that I encountered there knows nothing of their products and the owner has no clue about customer service. The owner is completely unclear on what a coupon is and needs to take responsibility for his lack of knowledge. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Know what you want before you go into this joke of a place, if you must do business there. read more
