A poor experience. I ordered online where they claimed to offer a BOGO discount. I went to pick up the items and was told my order was canceled because they did not have the turmeric tablets (that showed in stock). They had OTHER turmeric tablets though. Could I buy those? Sure. Would I get the BOGO discount? "Oh no, that's for online orders only." Later that night I got an email saying my order was canceled , they had neither of the items in stock. Offer discount, cancel the order, sell at full price once the customer arrives. Not a great business model, GNC. read more

Fine place, but with a very pushy salesman who on separate visits kept denigrating the product I was trying to buy so he could sell me something he was getting paid to promote. One time is okay, but when I pushed back the second time he told me it was his job as a salesman to keep pointing out the flaws in the product that his store actually sells! I told him about the concept of selling past the sale, and then I gave him a lesson in it by walking out and ordering the product for $10 cheaper on Amazon. I would have bought it every week from GNC due to convenience, but not if I have to be sold to that way. read more

I frequent the GNC chain in another city but stopped here quickly while out of town. I was terribly disappointed with the customer service and inventory. Three generations of my family have managed GNCs and are also in the fitness industry so walking in here to ask if they had a specific item in their inventory and immediately be told that it's "not the best product" showed me the staff here needs training. Also telling me that they don't take any corporate coupons seems like he just wanted to bump his sales. GNC is better than the experience I got from him. read more

Gave me a rant about other pre workouts I clearly didn't want to buy, and when I respectfully told him I liked my decision, continued to tell my how my decision was "crappy" and "wouldn't get me far". Do not waste your money at this store. This GNC is the worst ever! They refuse to provide returns, or even store credit on spoiled products that they sell. Their personnel is unprofessional and argumentative; clearly, the employees do not have any experience with customer service principles and techniques. I spoke with an employee who reluctantly identified himself as Nathan, about returning some perishable items that were spoiled, he interrupted me, became argumentative, refused to listen to what I had to say by continuously talking over me and the laughed! When I mentioned that I have been a longtime customer, supporting their business throughout the years, including the pandemic, Nathan laughed. I was shocked by his demeanor and lack of professionalism. I told him that I would be reporting this incident and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and that his laughter was not an appropriate response to a customer concern, he continued to laugh and retorted, "I will laugh all I want!" May the last laugh be on him and the owner of this establishment, as they won't be in business much longer with these shoddy practices. Unfortunately, I have to post a star to proceed. Do not go to this store. This store charged me twice for one har of $47 protein and would not issue a refund for the incorrect additional charge. After receiving advice from an associate to come in the day after this occurred, I came to find out that the owner would not approve refunding me the money. There is security camera footage of me purchasing one jar of protein powder, there is evidence of this also in my bank account. I was told by an associate that one one was reported out of inventory- next day there are 2 out of inventory!? It is possible Someone took home a $47 jar of protein powder on my dime. Basically I got charged twice for one expensive item i purchased and the store refused to do anything about it. I had to contact my bank and GNC customer service to get my money back. I don't recommend interacting with this business. read more

The last two times I've tried to go buy protein, the store has been closed past the posted opening hours. Today, there was another person also standing outside the door waiting for them to open well after 10am. Shopping for supplements or vitamins give me anxiety sometimes so it's nice to be able to go into a store where you can talk to people who are knowledgeable, helpful, and stock exactly what you need. The Piedmont location is fantastic. Compared to other GNC's I have been to, this location is easy to navigate and doesn't make you feel overwhelmed by product, which I can appreciate. I walked in and was greeted by a big smile from James who helped me find exactly what I needed - I got the vibe that he knew his stuff. I'll definitely be back. TL;DR: Great location. James was super helpful and knowledgeable with helping me pick my next preworkout which was cardio cuts and now I'm hooked! This place is also my go to for my all my protein snacks and vitamins. This location just recently got new owners. At first I was hesitant because the previous owners were so great. BUT! to my surprise I had yet another great visit to GNC. It definitely looks more organized. I was helped by Jimmy and he really knew his stuff! He didn't make me feel pressured or overload me with a ton of information. He helped me pick a supplement my sister recommended and also hooked it up with a couple samples. I'm so glad he did because I ended up coming back and returning my original product to the sample he recommended! I know I'm going to be a lifelong customer here. Mariano was great, this guy definitely knows his stuff. Very friendly, very personable, and excellent customer service. Talk about loving your job and what you do, he is a prime example of what a work drive should be. I asked a few questions in regards to boosting my stamina and testosterone and he recommended exactly what I was looking for and needed. I'll definitely be back especially knowing that someone with knowledge works here. Your Coupons are NOT WELCOME here! I have been going to this GNC for over 6 years now, when Dan and his brother (and mom) were the owners. Never had a bad experience until now. NEW MGMT GIVES HORRIBLE SERVICE. They sign you up for ALL the GNC Rewards Programs (coupons/mags) yet DO NOT HONOR ANY of them. Sales associate claims "we lose money" and "call customer service" if you have a dispute. No manager on site, and when he was called he refused to speak over the phone. What's the point of racking up rewards IF YOU CANNOT USE THEM?! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my vita-pak program (Women's Ripped) but will never be purchasing here again. read more

I went there today around 4pm, there was a closed sign out front saying back in 45min. Arbitrary hours are really lame and unprofesional. This is not a mom and pop joint. These coporations think they can have shoddy service just because it is Oakland, but in fact this is a market where we have a choice. 3.5 stars really. I feel like you have to be very careful when you go into these stores. You should know what you want and not get distracted by fancy packaging or what the sales person says. The sales people are nice enough, but they are interested in making the largest sale possible and will talk about peptides this and protein that and absorption rates. It makes me uncomfortable when non-doctors talk about all this science that is supposedly behind their products because at the end of the day, I will be ingesting it and don't like the idea of taking a million different pills/chemicals for what sometimes feels like quack-science reasons (and unlike a doctor, it's in the interest of these salespeople to sell me on every product in the store, which means I have to be my own advocate). Still, I got what I wanted and actually really like the product so I can't complain. Also, I liked the fact that a lot of different people came into the store. Response to owner: if TWO of the FIVE types of pills included in the pack are indeed in the weight loss section of the website, then I would have appreciated the salesman to sell me those two products in light of the fact that I told him at least once in our discussion that I have been unemployed for several months and was trying to find a cost effective plan at GNC. However. . . this was my first time going into any vitamin/supplement store and I was taken back by how sales-driven the person working there was (i.e., after I told him I was unemployed, he kept trying to sell me other supplements, totally unrelated to weight loss). I went here not to long ago by way of suggestion. While I usually don't have many problems with GNC stores, this one I kinda do. From the looks of it, this particular store is independently owned, thus, there pricing varies, and not for the better. Prices here for particular items could be easily ten dollars more than that of the same store in downtown Oakland. On top of that, half of what I was looking for was not in stock, with no clue of when it could be. From now on, ill stick to the cookie cutter franchise stores; better service, better selection, better prices. read more

I like to go online and browse before I buy . Here w was no exception. Had looked at 5 or 6 items online that I wanted to pick up in store. The less time in stores the better. Judith knows a lot great help I love this place very attentive and clean nice!!! She not only knows info of powder, she is meditation teacher I went for my cleatin 5000 powder but I got much more info for my yoga I do and other staff from her I almost cry because I felt like it's meant be met her that day. Customer service is dead at GNC! It's no wonder that GNC is closing stores. The customer service at this store that I received trying to EXCHANGE an item that I bought at that store (no notices were posted regarding FINAL SALES or NO EXCHANGES was posted ANYWHERE in the store at time of purchase) in particular was the worst I've EVER experienced. Their so-called Asst. Mgr Nathan should be fired immediately. He provided NOTHING! PERIOD! I tried calling their (corporate...
