Warning to Visitors in Sydney, Australia: My Experience with GM Cabs On March 11, 2025, I checked out of my hotel and was persuaded to take a GM cab. I had already booked a ride with DiDi (a rideshare service similar to Uber), but the hotel staff assured me that GM Cabs would cost about the same and was available immediately, so I wouldn't have to wait. Trusting their advice, I took the GM cab at 6:20 AM to the airport, which is 11 kilometers away. My DiDi fare was quoted at $41.00, so I expected the GM cab to cost no more than $45 at most. Upon arriving at the airport, the meter displayed $41.95. When the driver asked if I was paying by cash or card, I chose card. To my shock, I was charged $71.25 instead. I immediately emailed GM Cabs to report the issue, but to my dismay, they never responded. Warning: Avoid GM Cabs when visiting Sydney. Instead, use reputable alternatives like 13cabs, DiDi, general taxis, or public transportation. read more

Biggest taxi scam I've seen yet. I got in and told him my destination, he adjusted the taxi meter to 10 dollars before we took off. I asked why, he said that's the fee when using them. Then the meter was rolling so fast on the motorway but then noticed as we were at a stop at a intersection, the meter was still rolling as fast like we were on the motorway. As I got to my destination, he added another 12 dollars on top and said "that's my tip you uave to pay".....this is Australia. You can't pull stuff like that here. 150 in total for the ride. Was so mad when I got home and I compared the price if I used uber, it would've been 42 dollars on Uber. Lesson learned. No taxis for me ever. Especially gm cabs read more

Complete rip off. Chatged me at least $40 more than they should off. I felt like I couldn't say anything at the time cause the doors to the cab were locked. Took 4 months to refund and only after I threatened to contact ACCC. Do not use this company read more

Sydney GM Taxi's Skimming Credit Cards Last week I caught a GM cab from the city to home which is approximately $33.00. I didn't get a receipt after using my credit card. When I checked my statement I was charged $96.00. The day after catching that taxi, someone tried buy $500.00 worth of products from Autobarn in Bankstown on my credit card. Luckily the bank blocked it. Not only did the taxi driver over charge me, he also had a skimming device to make a copy of my credit card. When I reported this to the GM taxi company, they said they couldn't do anything without a receipt. Lesson learned always get a receipt from those stinking Taxi Drivers. And they do stink too. Always have to wind down the window because they smell so much. read more

GM Taxi T7431 Sunday evening 10:25pm Sussex St, Sydney. The driver stopped and asked me where I was going. As I was answering I said the suburb and tried to open the door. He locked the door and said $30! I said, but it's only 12-15$ to my home from the city. He said $30 or f-off. Obviously I had to f-off. It's so aggressive and unnecessary to be like that. Not everyone who lives in certain suburbs is rich and has $30 to throw at a cheap, quick trip. Hopefully he grows up and isn't so arrogant in the future. read more

GM Cabs - GM Taxi T7431 Sydney - Taxis Near Me - Mascot, NSW

I took a GM Taxi from Mascot domestic to the centre of the Sydney CBD. This is a trip I do often. $40-50. The (Asian) driver asked me if I knew the trip. Did I live at the address. I could not see a meter but I did not ask where it was. When we arrived he asked for $70. He had had the meter covered when I got in the cab. When I asked to see the meter he took the cover off and showed $70. When I protested that the fare should not be $70 he didn't seem surprised and started to negotiate a price. He'd done this before... My belief is that he starts the meter when he drops off a fare and charges the next fare the time he's been waiting in the taxi queue. On Nov 20, 2022 around 1100pm, we took a GM taxi (see attached taxi licence plate) from the Sydney Airport to our hotel in Haymarket (Great Southern Hotel 717 George Street). The taxi driver was on the mobile phone all the way (talking in some foreign language). 15 mins into the ride, he asked if OK to take highway, trying to be polite, I said yes. He did not tell me that I was going to pay additional $32 toll fees. 5 mins to the destination, he told us that he could not drop us off at the front of hotel because of light rail. I said it's OK. He said if I can pay cash, I replied it depends on the amount. He showed me the metre, it was $100+. Along the way, I could not see the metre as I was obstructed by something. Thinking back, I believe it was a SET UP. I was shocked at the amount. Prior to landing at the airport and having chatted with a fellow passenger, I was told taxi fare and Uber to Chinatown should be about the same at $28. When we arrived at the end of Barlow Street , with the $32 toll fees, the total tax fare was $142.98. I paid with my credit card and asked for a receipt, he refused to give me receipt saying that I did not tell him earlier. I thought it is normal practice to give customer receipt. He unloaded our bags and pointed across the light rail to a brightly lit building telling it is our hotel. I could not see the name of the hotel. I asked him not to leave us there until we know where was the hotel. Finally he pointed further down George Street to the correct location. Meanwhile, my wife has already asked a passer-by and told us the correct location. This was our VERY BAD first experience of Sydney NSW Australia. On the way back to Sydney Airport, we took Uber, it cost $28. Till today, I still could not understand why a $28 ride can become $100+. Also, I don't think the toll was $32. I hope this serves as warnings to visitors in Sydney NOT to take GM Cabs Mascot. I also hope that the authority do something to improve the tourist experience of Sydney Australia. read more

A cabbie tried to tell us the fare would be 85 to 110 AUD and I told him we could catch an Uber for half the price and hopped out. Another cabbie talked to the first one about it, and we agreed to do it for 60. We ended up being charged an extra 10 AUD for "tolls" even though we went through none at all. I paid, because I had to, but the driver was so aggressive and rude about it. I left my phone in his cab and the absolute run around this company has put me through is ridiculous. At first they said yes, it was their cab and now, two days later, they're claiming they only supplied the EFTPOS machine he used. What's the go, dudes? read more

BEWARE! RIP OFF! Do not take a ride with GM Cabs. We ordered a taxi through our hotel concierges 3 days to same location . 1st and 2nd day $10 fare. 3rd day we arrive at destination with GM Cabs and driver says $32.50. We protest! No, sir, the fare is $10. He states we booked through our hotel and it is a "Flat Rate" $ 32.50. He states we need to complain to the hotel. Reluctantly we pay the fare and insist on a receipt. He does print our receipt. We lodge a complaint with our hotel and they are filing a complaint with the company. I see there are 3 reviews here all similar, I don't think we have a chance to get our money refunded but maybe this review will help others avoid a Rip Off by GM Cabs. read more

Shocked at the price - cannot believe this is legitimate. Having made the same 11km journey from Chermside to the Airport half a dozen times in a month, and always paid $25-$35, I'm charged over $50 the first time I used this company out of an airport cab rank. Given it was 10pm and there was NO traffic, this was a huge surprise. How can this happen if the 'government sets the rates'?? Same route, double the price. The origin point on my invoice says 'city' instead of 'airport' - when I called to discuss this, I was told 'sometimes they make mistakes on the receipt' and that it always costs a minimum of $20 to get from one side of the airport to the other - how is this possible when I've gotten home multiple times for only $25?? MY FAMILY GOT RIPPED OFF! We took a cab from the Brisbane Marriott to the airport and the concierge told us there were no additional fees, not to take the tunnel otherwise there would be, and it would cost about $50. The meter read $52 when we got to the airport, and the cab driver quickly changed it and printed out a $64 fare on an illegal receipt. We told him it just read $52 and he said there is an $11 fee for international travelers, which we told him is a lie and we were flying domestic. He bullied us into paying and said we could file a complaint. Later, we closely examined the receipt where it said the pickup is at the airport (not the Marriott) and the drop off was unknown. Fraudulent Drivers under the patronage of systematic cheater company Please put complaint with Point to Point Transport Commission and NSW Fair Trading in-addition to your reviews Sydney Airport taxi stand, we don't have choice and I was the cursed one to get GMCabs Maxi Taxi. Drive drove slowly as much as he can. Added $50 Extra to fare (which was already extra $50 from normal rate) that was visible on the meter when Taxi stopped. Gave me a fraudulent manual slip of another cab company. GMCabs only responded once when I reached them tracking the driver, and then never responded again. I launched the case with Point to point transport commission. After two week, I came to know that GMCabs have agreed that driver over charged the $50 and I will get refund. But they never did. Launched complain with NSW Fair Trading. They came back that GMCabs cannot do refund because driver no longer work with them. Still if everyone launch a complaint against them, one day then can be brought under the rule of the law. They can be made answerable to their cheat practices. Ripped Off again by Sydney taxis!!! Beware of dodgy practices by these drivers. Last time I was in Sydney the driver skimmed my card and used it to help himself to nearly $3000 before I was alerted and cancelled it. Last Saturday we took a GM taxi from Circular Key, because the station was closed for track work, the fare was a reasonable $37 or so, but on checking my account today I found another dishonest driver had been at work despite his pleasant manner and general conduct. The driver had a bad attitude, not once he had both hands on the wheel, I initially thought he is physically challenged but he wasn't, he was just arrogant and reckless. he was operating a couple of screens and changing lanes and indicators all in 1 hand while his other rested on his lap doing nothing. putting our lives in danger isn't fun. We arrived at Sydney airport from Canada exhausted and my wife was ill. Thought it best to take a taxi to our airbnb in Bondi Beach area. I asked what the rate was approximately- told it depends on meter. Most big cities I visit have a flat rate depending where you going or at least give you an idea. The driver seemed to go forever and the bill came to a bit more than 132 dollars- I have never paid that for a city cab ever. Most people from Sydney said I was cheated as did othe family who did a similar trip. An Uber XL back for FIVE of us was 67 dollars. I know its cheaper by uber but this difference? I contacted the company who were very unsympathetic. Would " look into it" in five business days. Many days later NO RESPONSE. My advise? Be very very wary using a cab at Sydney airport and if its a GM cab get another. read more

I rode a GM cab (minicab) to the Sydney domestic airport. Was a good ride but I left my iphone in the cab! I had to catch a flight and then a long car ride out to Lorne. Once I arrived there about 5 hours later I called the GM Cab company. Using the number on the receipt (131-001) I called the GM Cab company and spoke with their lost and found person. She immediately called the driver and found that he had turned the phone in to the airport cab office. I got the cab driver's phone number from her and I called the driver myself to thank him. He was very nice and told me that he turned the phone into the taxi office to a person named Sam. I then called back to GM Cabs and talked again to the lost and found person (all of these calls were via pay phone at the airport or from my hotel in Lorne). She called Sam for me while I held the phone. We worked out that Sam would send the phone ahead to my next hotel in Melbourne. I paid the the postage fee then over the phone via credit card. When I got to my hotel 5 days later the phone was waiting for me, shipped by Sam and GM Cabs via the taxi driver and the lost and found person. I can only say that this team at GM cabs , the driver, Sam at the Sydney domestic airport taxi office, and the lost and found call person whom all I interacted with were the best ever in service and response from any taxi company I have interacted with. I travel all over the world, and have lost a few items in cabs now and then , with no response from calls I placed seeking to regain the lost items. Hooray for GM Cabs!!! I caught cab mascot to Sydney which I do a few times a year. My fair was usually 110 dollars or so. This time same trip, same time, same traffic 170 dollars. Avoid this company like the plague.
