In some of them, the filling ran down the side to make a chewy, caramel texture that adds another layer of depth to the pastry. As for the scones, they're soft and at a perfect sweetness level. There's ribbons of icing that graces the top, and has hardened so that you get a little crunch as you're eating it. The store owner was very helpful and let us know that she makes pastry gift baskets and that they can ship anywhere to the US and even some international countries. I'll be sure to stop by again, as there's a wide variety of baked goods to try (pies, cookies, cake balls, tarts, and more) and everything is baked on site.

It looks like there are small groups that meet for coffee, company and some baked goods. This place has been around a long time and it is still here because it has heart! Their baked goods are delicious too! We won't forget that. Impromptu cakes, no problem. They always have some available. I have bought and have partaken in quite a few cakes and they are all moist, flavorful with tasty frosting that isn't greasy. Lovely buttercream! I love picking up their home made breads. Banana, cherry, strawberry and more! They have many many items to choose from, donuts, danishes, cookies and fresh baked breads. Take a look at their "day old" items, still great at a lower price. The service is always friendly, quick and welcoming. This place is worth a stop!

The founder is from Nablus, Palestine, where the original pastry shop opened in 1902. My dad knew the original owner. His son moved to Dearborn in the 80's and opened up Masri Sweets, bringing Nablus style Knafeh which is known the world over. It's my favorite thing to eat here. They still carry on in the Palestinian tradition. Samples are handed out generously. You want a piece of pastry which might be $2 or $3 somewhere else, no problem. Take 2. Palestinian culture has historically been very generous with food. Guests never leave without eating, and strangers are always welcomed. What cynical irony that food is currently being used as a weapon of war against these people. I sometimes wonder if their hospitality wasn't their Achilles heel. If you're in Dearborn, head over to Masri sweets to experience not only world class Knafeh, but maybe some of that famous Palestinian hospitality.

Today, I was not running late for the first time in ages so I decided to check it out and grab some treats for the ladies at the salon before my appointment. There were a couple of tables of patrons and no one waiting at the counter so I went right up to order. Almost immediately after I made my selection, it was like the floodgates opened and suddenly a pretty sizeable line was forming behind me. The casual vibe and decor are so welcoming and the staff are all smiles, even under pressure, so that alone made me happy I stopped in... but the food... oh my lord... I got cherry chocolate scones, Mexican chocolate cookies, and cranberry muffins. The scones were light and crumbly and the flavor was dynamic. The Mexican cookies had a delicate balance of cinnamon and chocolate with a crunchy topping of raw sugar that made each bite so lovely. The cranberry muffins were perfectly moist and delicious. The ladies at the salon lit up when they saw what I brought them and said they absolutely love their cafe menu for lunch as well, so I know I will be heading there after my appointment to grab a sandwich sometime soon!
