Two disastrous encounters with another popular waxer in Naperville sent me out to discover a new spa where I could get a Brazilian without driving to the far ends of Chicagoland. Yelp guided me towards Glowing Skin by Alena. After a review of the website and an informative call, I was booked for an appointment over my lunch hour. Warm weather waits on no woman to see to the essentials! The spa sits inside a large two-story house converted into office spaces with ample parking in the back. I crept down Washington looking for the right driveway, prevailing on fellow drivers to be patient as I was every rush hour with them. Outside appearances are deceiving. She's converted a space into a quiet, jewel-toned sanctuary with warm walls and shimmering fabric. Waxing studios should not have an antiseptic, institutionalized feel any more than they resemble a dirty nail studio. Gentle music played in the background. I felt immediately at ease. Let's be honest: if I'm about to turn myself over to a waxing artist for a Brazilian, I want her to be *good*. Forget competent, give me a virtuoso. Don't we deserve it? Fortunately, Alena doesn't disappoint. I have had bikini line and Brazilian waxes since I was 17, and Alena is on the lowest end of the discomfort spectrum. Only the House of Wax beats her for painlessness. Alena herself is a charming, exotic woman with fascinating stories -- a real virtue in her line of work. She disarmed me by asking a few questions and chased off any slight jitters before setting about her work by explaining her technique for each step. She wants to inform her clients so they know what to expect, and she explained the difference between hot, warm, and cold waxes. I was a convert after the second application of a warm, not quite body-temperature wax that slid on and peeled off with only a mere hint of fuss. The Brazilian proof for the difference is on the pudding, if you like. Low pain? Check. Great results? Check. Flexible hours? Check. My appointment lasted longer than average because she is determined to remove stray hairs and make certain the skin is perfectly smooth. Her prices are competitive, but nowhere else in western Chicagoland have I found such thorough and gracious service. Ali is absolutely incredible at what she does! She really knows what she is doing, and makes you feel as comfortable as you would want to feel while getting a Brazilian wax. Ali is very friendly and outgoing, making the experience as painless as possible. I found this magical place online. I don't take particularly great care of my skin. But a few years ago I discovered microderm abrasion. And I have had my share of random dermabrasion treatments. Some with great results, others not so much. After finding Alena, I may never go anywhere else. It was an extremely relaxing experience. She is extremely knowledgeable and I am EXTREMELY pleased. No sensitivity, no redness, no discomfort whatsoever. She takes her time to tailor the session to you, it is not just a factory style session. I LOVE coming here, it's so serene and great ME time. When you first pull up, you can't imagine that her space inside on the second floor can be that good to be true. It is calming and cozy. Ali truly is a professional and puts her clients first. The services she offers are impeccable and I have referred three people to her that see her regularly as I continue to do. I'm going to keep this short and sweet...getting a brazilian wax is definitely not the most enjoyable experience!!! HOWEVER recently I was searching for someone closer to my home and I decided to give Alena a try and she was better than GREAT...the space was very clean & relaxing with a nice aroma, the waxing process was pretty much painless - the least amount of pain I had ever experienced...I couldnt believe it!!!!
