The Vibe: Release…read more Anna walked over while I was taking photos of the studio. She smiled. Welcomed me in. Checked me in. Showed me around. Good start. By the time everyone settled onto their mats, Anna asked: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" One yogi answered without hesitation. "Release." The whole room smiled. Same. One collective Om. A few Sun Salutations. Then we were off. The Guide: Anna Murray * Express 45 Anna guided us through a few Sun Salutations before gradually stepping back and letting us move through several on our own. There was no stopping. One posture became the next. One breath became the next. Before I knew it... we were halfway through. Once the body was warm, the invitations began. Side Angle. Half Bind. Full Bind. Bird of Paradise. You could stay exactly where you were... or keep opening. The music carried everything forward. Beach House. Rhye. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Then, almost unfairly... it was time to come down. Forty-five minutes. Gone. At the end of class, Anna invited us to bask in our wholeness, our worthiness, the steadiness of our being, and then encouraged us to carry that presence into the rest of our day. The Tribe After class, I lingered. Showered. Wandered back to the lobby. Started talking. Dance came up. Anna had danced with the Salt Lake City Ballet. Another yogi studied modern dance. Of course. That explained a few things. Yoga keeps introducing me to fascinating people. Different paths. Same practice. Same willingness to open. Space & Place This studio deserves its own section. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Wasatch Mountains. Living artwork. During class, the mountains never leave your peripheral vision. They're a part of the practice. My favorite yoga room. By far. The Takeaway Halfway through class, I caught myself thinking: "I don't want this to end." Open. Present. Moving. Apparently...that's what release feels like. Field Note: We don't release to let go. We release to stay open. What you should know: Heat: Warm enough to open. Warm enough to sweat. Music: Beach House. Rhye. LCD Soundsystem. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Class Style: Forty-five minutes. No wasted motion. Amenities: Gorgeous studio. Great showers. Good luck not taking photos. Great For: Busy people. Beautiful flow. Back to your day. More open.

I decided to check this place out thru Classpass when I just moved here last August to explore the…read morearea. I'm so glad I tried it out, because it became a weekly place to go to. I haven't tried their yoga classes yet, but I was going there almost every week for their arts/craft workshop (ie. candle workshop). Seriously, it's so super therapeutic for me. Aside from yoga and arts/craft workshop, they have tarot readings in a separate room across from the restroom. The owner is super cool and nice. Her and all of her staffs are always helpful with good energy, too. One of the reasons why I gravitate towards that place, lol. Each time I'm there, I ended up purchasing something--plants, crystals, rings, essential oils, etc. They have super cute things and I cannot resist, but to buy something :) I spend a good amount of time just browsing and it's the most joyful feeling. Lastly, there is ample parking outside at the lot; and a restroom inside the store.

I went to an event today at Witchy Yoga Girl: High Tea and Tarot. What a fun event with tea and all…read morekinds of goodies to munch on. There were vendors there that you visited to get a sticker for a little prize at the end. I had a great experience with my tarot reader, Wendy the Witch. I'm grateful I had gone, because after karate today, I was feeling super unmotivated, but I felt a pull to go. It was just what I needed. The other vendors had a great selection of goodies, and I wanted to get a little of everything... definitely want to purchase their products at a later time. I had fun checking out the fun little gifts found around the shop too. Sheena is a great owner: I love her energy, and I'm grateful to have met her at a previous Yelp event. I can't wait to try out more workshops there! Thanks for an awesome event!

We signed up for the Salmon River rafting trip. The communication is beyond poor. We are spending…read moremore money on travel than the actual retreat. We paid for a hotel room to be able to make the early morning flight, to be able to make the "mandatory orientation" in Salmon the night before the retreat. We paid for an additional "package" to cover all flights and hotels from Boise to Boise. After sitting in the Jet Port for 3 hours we were able to find out that the orientation is not mandatory for us. After reviewing all materials, it is clear there is conflicting information and lack of ability to talk to anyone in a timely manner. Can't comment on the actual rafting trip.

The classes with Pilates reformer machines are $30, so if I go more than twice per week, I'm better off paying the $240/month membership fee. They have punch cards for other classes (15 for $225). Each instructor so far has been helpful. They know how to push our limits without causing pain. Two have given me their business cards for personal sessions or to get questions answered. Nice. Melissa and Kevin at the front desk are friendly. The women's bathroom has two toilets and two showers. Looks like their childcare center is fantastic. Parking usually isn't a problem. The main reason I waited so long to join was because I wanted afternoon classes--not morning or night--but I've been able to find enough classes for my schedule. After I downloaded their app and the MINDBODY app, I've been able to schedule and pay for classes online. Even at midnight. I needed to reschedule a class that had extra payment, so hopefully I won't get charged twice. I've been happy with this studio so far. It's ridiculously close to my home. I thinks it's ironic that it's next to a good hamburger/ice cream diner where my youngest daughter worked for several years. I wonder how many people work out then eat back all the calories they just burned. Ha. Or the other way around--people feel guilty for eating so much then they go to a fitness class. The other members seem to be from all different fitness levels, so it isn't awkward for this newbie who was out of shape.

I love CorePower Yoga! In case you are wondering, yes they mostly do hot yoga at CorePower. I find…read moreregular yoga boring and prefer hot yoga but one time I was looking through their class options and it occurred to me that they don't offer much unheated options. The Trolley Square location is super convenient if you live downtown. I find that the classes here are a little bit less intense than at the Highland Drive location. I don't know if this is a new Corepower thing or just a Trolley Square thing, but they started doing this thing where during the final shavasana, the instructor walks around with a cold lavendar scented towel to put over your eyes. It's so simple but what a delightful way to end class after sweating it out! I've mostly been doing the Corepower2 classes so maybe it's specific to that class? Maybe it's because the classes are smaller here but they also clean your equipment for you after class, which always makes me feel extra pampered and a bit spoiled. I am a bit of a gym rat, I am definitely used to cleaning my own gear after I use it. They're just so nice at this location. It's nice to be pampered a bit after working so hard in class. I also find that it's pretty rare for the Trolley Square location to completely fill up, so it's way better for a last minute drop in than the Highland Drive location. Trolley Square is right off a Trax stop so you could easily work out and then go out after, or wander around Trolley Square for a quick snack or meal. I also love Corepower because they offer a realistic punch pass option. Mine expire in 9 months and I have never had issues trying to use up my punches. Other gyms give you a ridiculously short time frame like 3 months or less to use up your punches and I get bored easily so committing to one sport that consistently is pretty rare for me. I am a fitness junkie so I have all kinds of gym memberships, and committing to a monthly membership for one place is very unusual. It was great to do the first week trial and they rent you a yoga mat and towel for free. What a great way to try out a fitness activity with no gear! I can see that being great for people that want to work out but are intimidated by the gear. I have noticed that there is a huge range of abilites and body sizes in class, so no shame! Even if you don't start out fit, you will end up strong by the end of a few classes. I am always shocked how I feel so much stronger after class. Sign up for their email lists and you can get discounts emailed to you!
