This was the first time I decided to get partial highlights. During my consultation, Stephanie recommended a color approach that sounded good, so I moved forward with both a haircut and highlights appointment. , What surprised me was that they did the haircut first and fully blow-dried my hair to check the cut before starting the highlighting process. After the highlights were applied, my grays still weren't covered, so they did an additional touch-up. That meant my hair was blow-dried multiple times in a single appointment, including after bleaching. I left with hair that felt significantly drier than before. I was also unhappy with the initial color result because the highlights looked patchy. To their credit, the salon contacted me and offered to bring me back for a correction, which I appreciated. At the follow-up appointment, Stephanie showed me a chocolate brown highlight color and asked if I liked it. I said yes, and she explained that a toner would be an easy fix. After the toner was applied, however, the highlights were essentially no longer visible. I have naturally dark hair, and now it looks very close to my original color. The end result is that after multiple chemical processes, multiple rounds of heat styling, several hours in the salon, and over $300 spent, I no longer have visible highlights, and my hair feels dry, brittle, and damaged. I appreciate that the salon attempted to correct the issue, but unfortunately, the final result left me disappointed. After more than 15 years as a customer, this experience has made me feel like I need to look elsewhere for future color services.

I asked for a rounded haircut with lots of layers and face-framing pieces and I showed her my inspo photos as well. She first washed my hair and then got started on the cut. Yessenia did an amazing job! She was friendly and professional and gave me exactly what I requested. I wasn't sure whether to go with lighter or heavier curtain bangs/face-framing pieces, and she knew exactly what would suit me when she suggested sticking with lighter face framing. She also somehow managed to style my frizzy Indian hair perfectly without using much tension on the brush, which was shocking to me. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Yessenia and Essence Salon and will definitely be returning!

She did what I requested but the result is not satisfying rather dissapointing. Hair has been trimmed way too much - usually trimming and layering done in the inner layer of the hair, not outer layer but somehow she did both inner and outer which makes my hair look very messy. It was $85 total not including tips ($10 extra charge due heavy hair). If I could reverse time and decide whether or not to get a haircut, I wouldn't at least with Nina.
