When I have had to have my hair blown dry in a different city, the hairdresser inevitably states that they love the color, a compliment hairdressers rarely give each other since most would like to have the client return to them. The salon is impeccably clean, and mask wearing is required. The prices are definitely not unreasonable as one reviewer stated, and I doubt any salon in Georgetown, Bethesda, or downtown DC would be less. She is 100% up front about pricing, and has never up sold me. If Celia moves again, I will follow her wherever she ends up.

I'm very picky but I met Princess Tuazon 2 years ago through friends and she has been doing an amazing job with their hair and so I got curious and took chance to get my hair done & ever since she became my hair & make up artist. She has always done an amazing job & enjoy her comforting personality. Fast forward to today, I went to visit her and get my hair done at Célia's Salon, she started working here for couple months now. The place is gorgeous and everyone there are very friendly. I was kind of skeptical going in any salon due of COVID19 but this place definitely takes my worries away. They observed social distancing and everyone was wearing masks at all times. I see them cleaning and disinfecting after every customer. Safe & Great place to get your hair done!

Really and truly? An affordable, non-stuck-up hair salon in Bethesda? YES!…read more The owner of the very wonderful, very well-run nail salon (Acqua Nails) in which this hair haven exists runs a tight ship. Everything is sparkling clean; appointments run on time; hair products are in stock but no one pushes you to buy them (yay). And can I get an Aveda? Yes indeed. I have hair that's on the long-ish side, and that's, erm, "multi-faceted" - ridiculously straight on top, outrageously curly everywhere else. Stacy does a great job of cutting it so it behaves even with my very minimalist attention (I won't do anything except brush and go, except maybe the occasional spritz of Aveda hairspray). Something of a miracle. She's also been doing a great job on my color, and listens and remembers things like which line of products I prefer they use when I'm there (I like Aveda, dislike Kerastase). Cost is not cheap, but also not the highly overpriced figures I've paid at other Bethesda salons. Plus - and this is a big one - it's not noisy. No blaring music, no twenty blowdryers going at once. The woman who does the shampoos is lovely, gentle, and thorough. Four stars instead of five because about two years ago, they stopped computerized scheduling (why?), and have a handwritten book. So, at the end of the year, if they don't have the new book for the new year yet, they can't schedule my next appointment (and then I forget and end up with gray roots - yikes). It also means no more automated texts to remind me of my upcoming appointments, which I actually miss. Lastly, they don't accept American Express, and I really wish they would, 'cause I like me my points.

When I walked in she was ready for me, she had a smile introduced herself and was very pleasant. She shampooed my hair perfectly, trimmed, colored and did an amazing silk press. We even talked about my hair and how I should care for my hair. Usually, when I get a blow out or a silk press by other stylist my curls drop within an hour later and my hair begins to frizz up. However, I went home pulled my hair into a ponytail (being lazy) for 2 days, pulled my hair down on the third day and I still have curls. Girl, I was shooked! The Salon was easy to find, well kept and the other stylist were professional and remained busy.

Of course I thought he was exaggerating until he brought me a mirror. I was so surprised!! Shocked! Upset! Shawn's business partner, Tracy, is also wonderful; Candace, Tab, the other ladies are wonderful as well. The atmosphere in the salon is one of relaxation, yet the stylists are about their business -- very professional! I usually go there and end up falling asleep, I get so relaxed! The ladies who wash my hair will ask me if I'm "tender-headed" or not, which I'm not, so I tell them to go for it and they do. It has to be a workout for them, but they get down into the scalp and massage, and make it feel great! The ambience in the salon is enhanced by nice music -- it's hypnotic, to say the least. And there's no gossip, no backbiting, as one might often find in some places. Everything is geared toward giving the client the style that they need, and at a very reasonable price! Over the years, I've been happy to keep going to Basic Necessity because it's a great place to go. The stylists are also great about giving to the community, and they often have provided outreach to those in need. All in all, I give the salon 6 stars!
