Olathe Family Dentistry - Dr. Alexander and Dr. Bevan

    Olathe Family Dentistry

I've been a customer/patient of Olathe Family Dentistry for a few years now and I've been very…read morehappy. But my most recent experience was so pleasantly memorable, I felt compelled to post a review. It was not just a routine cleaning, which have all been fine, but a replacement of old cavity fillings. First of all, I did not feel a THING when the novacaine injection was administered. I mean, seriously, I was sitting there wondering "did he inject the novacaine yet?" before I realized yes he had. And I'm kind of a baby about novacaine in the first place. Secondly, the whole procedure was done smoothly, with excellent teamwork between Dr. Alexander (I hope it's Dr. Alexander and that I'm getting his name right, he's great) and the technician (sorry, I don't remember her name but she's great too, very personable and professional). They had a good collaboration where she could anticipate what he needed next and when I needed to be suctioned, etc. It just went very smoothly. Felt no pain, and it was efficiently done. Thirdly, I needed no adjustment at all. Sometimes with these fillings, it can end up a little high, and your bite just isn't quite right. Nope, 24 hours later I don't even REMEMBER that I just had these fillings done. The bite was perfect on the first try. And you have what you need - tissues, cups, rinse, bing, bang boom, procedure done, you're on your way. Oh yeah, I forgot, you can even eat and drink RIGHT after the procedure is finished. And I did (sorry, I know I said I wouldn't when I was there but I did because I COULD) eat and drink shortly afterwards and had no problems at all. And the staff are great. They're nice to you when you arrive and good about scheduling and great about billing. They listen to you, pay attention, they just do a great job with customer service. I've left physicians practices solely based on the behavior of the office staff even if I like the physician. Not an issue with Olathe Famly Dentistry, they're great to work with. And they accept my dental insurance (MetLife Dental).

Dentists and hygienists were awesome. Drs Alexander and Bevan retired a few years ago and things have totally changed. This practice is all about the money now and definitely not the personalized service that it once was. They insisted I needed a new bridge and we're incredibly high pressure about how I was going to pay the out of pocket portion. I have found another dentist who I'm very happy with and by the way there is nothing wrong with my bridge three to four years later.

I've have had extensive dental work done that supposedly was needed and have had an extremely…read moretraumatizing experience over the past five years. I was told they needed to start with "the worst" and proceeded to tell me I need thousands of work done. After receiving my first crown, I had a very strange sensation and was in severe pain and told that day to "wait" to see if it got better. Two years later it was deemed cracked by a specialist and needed to be extracted. The infection was brewing for years without being caught despite cleanings/check ups every 6 months. The bone loss that occurred was significant and affected the nearby teeth as well. I also had a crown done break off at the gum line that required a bridge in which they could not complete without me not being able to eat on it for months. If I touched the front of the bridge it caused extensive pain. I told them about it and they informed me that it would "get better", I then told them (after months) that I needed a lab made bridge and after four months of suffering I received that. I also had another molar which was crowned crack underneath it. In total I have had 3 crowns crack underneath and they all had to be extracted. I also had a second root canal done in which the infection was not caught until I paid out of pocket to get a pano done at the periodontist and then had to pay more for a radiologist to read the report. I have paid thousands to this dental office only to be left with seeing more specialists out of pocket to fix the work that was done or to find out I'm losing the tooth. I am left with permanent occlusion issues and the emotional distress of waiting for something else to come up after getting work done here. Edit: They will not respond to refund any of the crowns that were lost or pay for any root canal retreatment. They also did not even respond to the letter I wrote them addressing the concerns of the money spent or the dental work that resulted in seeing specialists to fix. To top everything off, I went to another dentist who said that they are concerned my crowns were not properly sealed. More money to fix and no compensation.

Everyone in the office is beautiful inside and out. I have never waited more than 2-3 minutes in the lobby before being called back to a room for my appointment, and once I'm in a room, I'm treated with so much kindness and comfort that I forget I'm even at the dentist. Everyone who works at Rhoades is incredibly well trained, gentle with their tools, and they explain everything that is happening thoroughly as it happens. In addition to the amazing ladies who work at Rhoades, holy cow they have top of the line equipment! From the X-rays to the cameras to make molds for crowns...(that's right-no more mushy mold making in your mouth!) they have the newest and best equipment. Bonus-they have every movie every made available for your viewing on the ceiling flat-screen. So if you're feeling like Napoleon Dynamite might be your jam while getting your new crown, this is your place!
