This spot was a hidden gem as it is about a 15min walk from old town but definitely worth it. My husband and I went for brunch and walked in to the bookstore, greeted by shelves and walls full of books. Further back is the bar and café. We sat outside on the patio and a waiter quickly took our drink order. They have really fresh mimosa's and their lattes were tasty too. I ordered the eggs benedict and a waffle. I purposely made a reservation for an author reading (Night Train to Odesa) at THE GLOBE in Prague. In 2018, I had been a Peace Corps Community Service Volunteer in Ukraine working with city government and displaced people. I still have friends there, so I was very interested in what the author had to say. In the past, I booked tables at The Globe for InterNations and the International Women's Association of Prague. On this occasion, my guest and I arrived early, purchased the author's book (plus 2 more), and checked in at the restaurant. Only two ladies were seated ahead of us. After we sat at a small table, the server told us we had to move to the audience chairs or the back tables. I said I had a confirmation of my reservation and asked her twice: why do we have to move? She never asked my name, despite my reservation. She just said the manager wanted us to move. We planned to eat dinner, so we moved to a rear table rather than the individual chairs. Soon afterward, a single man sat at the table we initially had. He wasn't asked to move. I make reservations to be assured a decent seat, because (due to an injury) I have eyesight and hearing issues. I DID reserve a table. The Globe DID confirm this twice by email. Instead, I was disappointed to be moved from table 5. After the man kept the table, I went to the bar for clarification. Instead I was treated badly for asking. Because of the music and my hearing, I spoke loudly. He said he didn't like my attitude, because I asked for an explanation. I was not given a satisfactory answer, nor was I provided with a better table despite my reservation. The manager actually turned away from me and made no attempt to rectify the situation. No apology for the confusion. No real explanation. He did show the paper with reservations to the server and said Table 5. We didn't get table 5, because the party of 1 man took it. I have previously booked groups of 8 people for trivia and other events at the Globe. We spent money eating and drinking, but I will choose other locations now. During my university years, I worked as a server. I still overtip, even though Czech people don't tip at all. I was never insulted in a restaurant before. This was a first. I was so disappointed that I didn't ask the author any questions about her time in Ukraine. A rarity for me. I do want my personal and professional friends to be aware about my negative experience at The Globe. Fortunately for me, there are other places in Prague who welcome me and my money. Trivia at the Down Under, if anyone cares to join me. (My apologies for ranting. I was much angrier two days ago.) Two stars ONLY because I like the Bookstore and the author reading. I'm feeling a bit homesick after nearly two months of living 4,500 miles away from my family and friends with no plans to return permanently any time soon. But my homesickness certainly wasn't cured by my visit to the American-owned and operated Globe Bookstore & Cafe. When our party of four arrived after dinner, the clientele was sparse but by the time we left around 9:45 pm, the place had filled in with a Friday night crowd. The vibe in the bar area was chill. When I walked up to the bar to ask if we should order there or find seats first, I was excited to hear an American accent echoed back at me. I'm the type of person who tends to chit chat with random people but due to my still very limited Czech (sorry, I'm trying!!), I haven't been able to strike up a conversation with new folks all too often here. Alas, the bartender (owner? manager?) had no desire to talk to me. Fine, but there was also no need to be downright rude. I had read that they had phenomenal milkshakes, so of course I asked for an Oreo one. In response, he balked in detail about his disdain for making the milkshakes and how slow his blender is, thus causing long wait times. I offered to buy something else, but then a friend ordered a peanut butter milkshake. He then offered to make me a peanut butter one too since it's easier when it's the same type, but I loathe peanut butter so I said no. After another from my group walked up and unknowingly ordered an Oreo milkshake, I piggybacked and told him I wanted the milkshake after all since it'd be easier for him. I also ordered a Long Island Iced Tea to try during the wait time, which he told me in a judgmental tone would knock me out. It was all SUCH a hassle and unnecessary. If the milkshakes are such a chore, either curtly reply with, "I'm sorry but my blender isn't working tonight. Would you like something else?" or take the milkshakes off the menu to avoid the unfriendly exchange with others in the future. Oy. That has to be the longest I've ever written about milkshakes. Eventually when they arrived, they WERE great, so that slightly salvaged the experience. Unfortunately, the server we had wasn't very nice either. I asked her where she was from and she looked like she wanted to kick me in the head. Like, sorry? I'm asked where I'm from VERY often here and I'm proud to be a Philadelphian. Sigh. Oh well. Can't befriend everyone, apparently. They may be American-owned with a host of delightful-sounding menu options, but I won't return in the future after the less-than-warm welcome I experienced tonight. read more

I agree with most other posts on here, the Globe is an excellent spot for English speaking expats in Prague who miss America. And that is about it. Their bookstore is overpriced (A blank notebook is 150 czk, or 7 USD, ridiculous!) , their menu is also overpriced and the food is not that great. When I went here I did enjoy the comfy atmosphere, but many cafes in Prague can also provide this same atmosphere at a much lower cost (and maybe a view as well) I got chicken nachos, a banana smoothie and a small desert and this set me back about 400 crowns. And be prepared to tip well since the waitstaff can kind of speak english they expect what we would tip in America.....even though they are slow and don't act like an American server would (aka not attentive at all). All in all, If you are in prague for vacation I would not suggest going here, and I personally will not be going back any time soon. read more

The Globe is perfect if you're missing the states and are hoping for a little classic American comfort food. We came here several times during our time in Prague. From burgers to fries to artichoke dip, we tried it all. They also have great hummus, french onion soup, and carrot ginger soup. The atmosphere is very laid back, cozy, and is the perfect little coffee shop for studying or an intimate evening with friends. I recommend sitting up in the balcony area--for some reason not many people make their way up to the top, but it has the best view of the restaurant! I have fond memories of The Globe and must make another stop back next time I'm in Prague. read more

Delicious hung-over brunch in Prague. Kind of a far walk from Old Town (15-20 minutes). Additionally, the service was extremely slow. On a saturday at brunch time ( 1:00 p.m.) there was only one waiter and another joined him mid way through our meal. I had to flag down the waiter several times to get my peanut butter and oreo mixed milk shake. THE FOOD: My friends ordered a twix oreo (mixed) milk shake. The waiter said they don't usually mix, but TRUST ME, order this combination. It was out of this world, and the milk shake was a perfect consistency, not too thick, not too milky. I ordered the breakfast burger which was a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg served on a bagel. I opted for fries instead of the hashbrowns that came with the dish. THE BREAKFAST BURGER WAS BANGIN. My friends would ask for bites but I wanted the entire dish to myself. The chocolate chip pancakes would be my second recommendation. The pancakes were delicately chocolatey without overpowering the flavor of the fluffy pancakes. Perfection. I would stay away from the egg dishes. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Prague. I've been coming here for more than a year -- first as a student and now as a teacher. The servers always remember me and know exactly what I like. The cafe menu is full of good old western classics you're missing from the States. The bookstore is also tops -- it has no competition in Prague for English books. They are more than happy to order any books they don't currently have in-stock, and are really good about communicating arrival times. There are a few users complaining on here about the attitude of the servers. It's totally unfounded. But I should note that even being an American-style place, not all the servers are from America. Also, it's not in America. So if it's not got the same country feel as Waffle House or the friendly locals of NYC or SF, well, you're in Europe. Personally, I've never had a less than positive experience with the staff. read more

The bookstore at the front is actually very nice with a good selection. If I could rate it separately I would. After browsing the store I decided to grab a bite at the cafe. I asked the waiter if I could seat myself. He shrugged and told me "Do whatever you want. I don't care." The lower dining level was oddly laid out with a couple with a large stroller in the middle, making it awkward to maneuver. I went around them to what seemed to be a long row of pub style tables at the back, the kind where you share a large table with a group of strangers. Huge mistake, apparently. The waiter came over, scowling, and asked "Really? THIS is where you sit?" Confused, I asked if there was a problem. "It's a large table. More people might come in later." I apologized and tried to explain my misunderstanding. I asked where I could sit. He rolled his eyes and said wherever I sat he would make me move later if someone else wanted my seat. I sensed a misunderstanding but before I could try and straighten it out he grabbed the menu, muttered something at me, and left - I wasn't going to be served today. I waited a few moments and then left, since it was something of a scene. Long story short, there's way better pubs around, and it's unfortunate such a nice bookstore is attached to this one. read more

I like The Globe. I accidentally stepped in, because it was really late and it was next to the Hostel I was staying (Chili Hostel). Upon entrance you see this quiet little book shop - and internet stations. Once you continue inside you reach the bar and the restaurant/coffee shop. I sat there to have dinner and the menu was a single page full of many delights such as: Vegan dishes and Goulash. The waitress was really kind and talkative, she spoke English fluently and really helped me choosing stuff on the Menu. Too bad smoking is not prohibited. read more

A very cute place to sit and study! I visited with a large group for lunch, and was impressed with the service we received, considering I don't think they often accommodate groups of thirteen. I have to give this place a four because the food (at least what I got) wasn't amazing but I LOVE the atmosphere and vibe. I've already been here twice to study. It almost feels like a treehouse in the main dining area with a room (that was closed both times) open to below upstairs. Delicate, study-style music plays throughout (limited playlist, however; I heard several songs twice). I ordered the mango and grapefruit juices, with mango winning out. For dinner, I ordered the Mexican burrito which came with chips. The burrito was okay and nothing special. I still enjoyed it, and the vibe made it even better. I liked the chips and salsa, but the portion of salsa was too small a ratio to chips. I love the bookstore in the front as well. The owner is a sarcastic, sweet man from Boston who is easy to get along with and seems to develop friendships with many American expats. Coming from America this place was the closest to "home" food I could get in Prague. I often came here in the morning for the pancake breakfast which was amazing (super good chocolate chip pancakes). The iced coffee is also very similar to iced coffee in America which was nice. The bookstore front is really cute and fun to browse around in. The wait staff is nice and there are plenty of tables so you will never have to wait. Ive also come very late at night to do work as it is one of the few places open late where I could do some school work. Yesterday, I paid with two stravenky and cash for a bill totalling 373 ck. Instead of looking at the amount of the stravenky and ringing them in correctly for the food, the server rang them in at 200 crowns. Each stravenka was 105. Then he said he couldn't change it in the system since he had punched it in. When I paid cash for the rest of my bill, which totaled 171 with a 1000 kc note, he returned exact change instead of throwing in the extra ten crowns, saying "I guess that's the tip you're leaving tonight." I am uncategorically pissed off by this poor service. I attend book club there every two weeks, and have done for over two and a half years. He is always rude, unfriendly, and downright disagreeable each time. This takes the cake though. Not only is he pushy and obnoxious, now he is deliberately shortchanging clients. This behavior is unacceptable. He is the WORST server I've ever had to deal with and I have no idea how he maintains his job there. read more

The globe is awesome! The food is great, especially if you're an American missing home. Probably my favorite place to get breakfast in Prague but I also enjoyed it for lunch several times too. The Globe is an American hub in the middle of Prague. From the service to the food, The Globe is one of my favorite places to eat in the Czech Republic. In the midst of a service industry that has a hint of cold post-Communism personality, The Globe has friendly, helpful servers who are willing to joke around with you. And, similar to an American cafe, so long as you are buying food and you do not overstay your welcome, they allow you to use the Internet and work. Plus, when the weather gets nice, don't forget that there is an outdoor section as well. The menu is a familiar touch for Americans in a foreign country: from delicious nachos to my favorite Sunday morning New York egg sandwich to some Tex-Mex options. And, for coffee lovers, they actually have drip coffee there!!! read more
