I have been dealing with disc herniation from L3-S1 since the beginning of 2026 with multiple ER visits and pain 10/10. I couldn't walk, lift, lay down, or have any semblance of a productive life. It was a dark period for me. I had seen Dr Kim before for back issues but that was for general pain and discomfort. This was totally different. The doctors wanted to do surgery to reduce the pressure and reestablish adequate blood flow. I had told Dr Kim about my injury, the treatments and medicine, and that the initial surgery consult was 3 weeks away. He told me, I can help you and you won't need surgery. He recommended coming in 3 times a week. I said I'd like to come in everyday if that's acceptable. He concurred. It was painful at first since I could lie down. I had to lie on my left side. He would treat me with acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbs. He was focused on pain relief first, the range of motion, then exercise. At my initial consult, the doctor did not recommend surgery back of the physical exam and the difference between when I first saw him and that appointment! I highly recommend him especially if you have back or mobility issues.

I'm a retired veteran and came to Tali through VA Community Care after years of wear and tear had left me with significant mobility issues and a body that had learned to compensate around them. My goal has never been simply to chase pain--I want to restore my gait, mobility, and function as much as possible. Calling Tali an acupuncturist almost feels like an understatement. I jokingly think of him as an "acu-guru" because his understanding of anatomy, movement, and how different parts of the body interact goes far beyond simply placing needles and sending you on your way. Tali has approached my treatment almost like he's helping me "reprogram" how my body moves. Just as importantly, he doesn't want the progress to exist only while I'm on his table. He teaches me safe mobility techniques I can use at home to reinforce what we're accomplishing and hold onto those improvements between visits. That has been incredibly valuable to me. I've since added massage and chiropractic care through the VA as well, and I believe the combination is helping me make real progress.
