I'm a very skeptical person and had to do a lot of research and ask around about acupuncture. I have a back injury that always causes me to be in pain whether I'm sitting or laying down, walking or standing. Pain is always there sadly. I was very nervous my first day as we are currently in a pandemic yet Calvine follows protocols and makes sure the office is clean and safe for us. I've had horrible migraines since I was a child. I have known what it is like to miss family functions and to be the one left behind all the time in the dark because I can't handle the light or sounds or smells around me. I work at a Law Firm and tried contacting this provider multiple times to request for records and bills for one of our clients, I was never able to contact ANYONE, and i tried everything, phone calls, voice mails, emails, fax, and even submitting a message on their website. After an unsuccessful back surgery I was still in a lot of pain! On a pain scale of 0-10; ten being the worst pain ever...I was a high 9. I have a high pain tolerance and even gave birth without any meds at all...but with all that said, I was a high 9 in pain going in to see Calvin. "Traditional" doctor/surgeons would tell me that I was as good as I would get and I should be grateful I wasnt completely paralyzed! I was unable to lift my leg up more than about an inch. I went in to see Calvin as a skeptic and had very low expectations of finding any kind of improvement. WOW... was I wrong! Within an hour Calvin had my pain level at 7 and still going down as I left and I was able to lift my knee up several inches! I am so glad that Calvin proved me wrong and I continue to go back for help with everything from anxiety, headaches, back pain, knee pain, to losing weight and so much more! My experience with Calvine was fantastic. This was my first time with Accupuncture which was somewhat scary but Calvine's professionalism and openness to listening helped to ease my fears. He walked me through the process and answered all of my questions very patiently. The experience felt similar to going to see my physical therapist rather than an eastern spiritual healer. Calvine definitely seems to be bridging that gap between eastern and western ideas of healing. The fact that he works in doctors offices with referrals goes to show his mission of fusing eastern and western modalities, for Accupuncture to seem less foreign and more acceptable. If you're curious but hesitant about Accupuncture this is a great place to start. My only criticism is the doctors office is pretty clinical. I am finally FREE from a constant pinching in my neck that I have been dealing with for 20 years! I have driven my family nuts with endless requests for neck and shoulder massages. I was beyond skeptical with acupuncture, but not sure why because I knew nothing about it or the benefits, and boy let me tell you, talk about a release on so many levels! During my first visit, I literally broke down in tears to where I could barely speak.  I realized just how tired and broken I was. But Calvine was beyond amazing and he looked me straight in the eyes and he told me not to worry because he was going to be able to help me. That was the first time someone ever told me that! I have seen my doctor(s) many times and not one of them ever said that to me. I just felt like another patient with an appointment sitting in their office. But with Calvine, I knew in my gut I was where I was meant to be because the energy was also on point! He is passionate about his work and he is a PROFESSIONAL! The overall experience is like no other. In my first session I broke out in a sweat and I knew my body was releasing toxins. I even knocked out for a few seconds. When I came to my thighs and back were drenched in sweat (I was sitting in a chair) and I just had this sense of a release on so many different levels. Each session has had different outcomes as well, which is also very interesting. Overall, I have learned to relax during the seasons and really be in touch with what is going on with my body. I also started napping after my appointments and I DO NOT NAP! I end up feeling so relaxed, energized, and in a good mood! Other times I feel like I am emotional and cranky, but again, I know I need a nap! LOL. Oh, I almost forgot, I received a referral from my doctor at Kaiser to see Calvine because she had informed me I had "normal wear and tear" in my joints, and let me just tell you there is nothing normal about feeling fatigued, constant muscle aches, pinching in my neck and aches in ALL OF MY JOINTS. Osteoarthritis sucks and don't ever let anyone tell you that any form of arthritis is normal and how we all get it! Arthritis is draining physically and mentally. In closing,  I know my osteoarthritis is here to stay, but I am blessed to have found Calvine and his practice in Acupuncture to help with my pain management.  If you're thinking about it, JUST DO IT. OMG! Why did I wait so long to do acupuncture? I have been suffering with a stiff lower back hamstring pain for over a year now. I've gone to massage therapy with no success. One day the light clicked...what about acupuncture? I really like Dr. Castro. He is very informative and although I was nervous he made me quite comfortable. After one visit I can touch my toes with no tight band feeling in my lower back. I sneezed with no pain in my lower back. I was given a referral by my dr for acupuncture for arthritis and disc degeneration in my back and hip area. Had a second appointment scheduled yesterday. Had so much pain and tightness in my leg that I could hardly put weight on it and difficulty walking. Even took out my cane that I had not used in over 15 yrs , since back surgery, to help me walk. Calvine worked with me to find the pain and help to alleviate it. By the time I left his office it was easier for me to walk. I could put weight in my foot without feeling like my leg would give out on me. Most of the pain and tightness was gone by late afternoon. I've used other acupuncturists in the past to get relief from back, hip and leg pain, the type of pain that causes loss of sleep and hard to function on a daily basis. Had my first visit with Dr. Castro on 09-03-19 and with in 10 minutes of my first treatment I had relief from the pain in my right buttock down my leg and within another 5 minutes my back pain subsided. First thing in the morning is my worst time for back pain and leg stiffness, but this morning was a whole lot better with minimal pain and stiffness. First I want to start off by saying I was a complete skeptic. I didn't believe that acupuncture could work for me. A little background I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) sclerosis in the hips knees ankles elbows hands wrists etc. (deterioration of the tissue) as well as fibromyalgia (an auto immune disease and nerve condition that causes pain throughout your entire body, it causes easy bruising, extreme fatigue as well as many other symptoms ( basically my entire body felt tender to the touch). I also have something called a pars defect which is a missing portion of my lower spine. I have suffered from severe anxiety panic attacks body tremors and twitches shakes sciatic pain etc. I remember my first appointment with Calvine after my session was over he asked me how I felt. It was so strange to respond with "nothing" it was the most surreal experience and most emotional moment of my entire life. I didn't feel pain anywhere for the first time in almost four years. It was as if this weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Not only did I not feel pain or tenderness but no fear anxiety or worry. As the weeks went on I progressively got better. It helped me not only physically but mentally as well. Everything just shifted. The things that used to feel huge and defeating just weren't. I was humbled by this process. To realize that there was something out there that could give me my life back. After several on going and consecutive sessions with Calvine I have overcame so many things. I no longer take nerve medication, pain killers, or anxiety meds anti depressants etc. He truly is an angel sent from heaven in my eyes. He cares about me as a patient and as a person.
