We didn't leave hungry, but it definitely wasn't the best meal.

He argued with me when I said that the "roast beef" on the menu was just a hard steak and I wanted a soft roast beef as it was mentioned on the menu. So when I said that he went off on me saying that "yes, it is a steak indeed but locally it is called a roast beef." My point is that the waiter should have explained that the "roast beef" on the menu is just a steak and not a roast beef when I was ordering. Instead I got yelled at... The whole fried fish was alright. The duck was also alright. Their beef broth soup with dumplings was amazing, the cheese dumplings are not cheese dumplings but meatballs with some cheese inside. I wasn't told it as well but I was pleasantly surprised. Their flat cheese pancakes were delicious too. We spent over 200 Euros for four people. I cannot say we enjoyed the experience... I do not recommend this place.

Their vegetables are fresh and taste as if they were just picked from the garden today. Their bread was perfection with the right amount of crunch on the crust to tender soft center. Their Knodels were devine and the best we have ever had, this says a lot given our age and love for knodels. We were on our way to the train when we found this fabulous business and to be honest we were not expecting what we got, given their close proximity to transportation we assumed it would be an average meal and service but boy were we wrong! If you are in the area stop by and grab a snack, coffee, beer or meal and I promise you will love it as much as we did.

They asked if I could pay in cash because they were out of receipt paper. We explained we didn't need a receipt and they said they could try to run it. They then did, it went through, I saw it on their machine and I got an alert on my phone that I was charged. They said okay but came back and said it didn't I went back to look at my charges but was so flustered I didn't see it. I then asked where the ATM was and as I was walking there I double checked my account and then I saw the charge. I went back and showed them and they said okay. Normally, I would say this is just a fluke, however, 3 days prior I went to the Stiegl in Vienna and they also asked if I could pay with cash cause their machine was broken even though it seemed to work fine. My bill was 31.00 and it wouldn't go through then they said they needed to try and run it for 35, and it went through and they gave me 4 euros in cash. I find it odd that two different locations within a week had similar issues. When I have not had this issue anywhere in Austria except there. Left a bad taste in my mouth for Stiegl.

This restaurant gets quite busy during lunch time as this seems to be the restaurant of choice by hundreds of tourists. So plan accordingly. They have the traditional Austro-German food like wiener schnitzel, brats, spatzl. They also have soups, salads, beef tartare, burgers, falafel sandwich, etc. For dessert, their cake display is promising: Apfelstrudel, Sacher torte, marble cake, cheesecake, Black Forest cake, etc. What I would recommend: Braised Beef with Spatzl Kaiserschmarrn Black Forest Cake Walnut Ice Cream Hot Chocolate Breakfast is from 7am-10:30am, lunch to dinner is from 11am-8:30pm. The pricing? Quite expensive for what you get. You're paying for the view of Hohenschwangau Castle. Are the restaurants nearby better? Yes. If you look/ sound like a tourist, they leave you alone which works for me. I actually don't like overly friendly servers that perfectly time when they ask you about your food while you have your mouth full. I just want to enjoy my meal in peace and quiet. Let me preface this review by stating that I am not the biggest fan of Bavarian food, but felt…read moreobligated to have at least one traditional local meal while traveling through Bavaria. I had the pork schnitzel with dark beer sauce. Usually the best thing about schnitzels is the crispy coating (otherwise, it's just a boneless pork chop). However, the dark beer sauce, which was like a gravy, smothered the crispy coating, making it soggy (1 star off). My husband got the boiled steak with horseradish sauce and salad. The horseradish sauce was delicious, but the boiled steak was exactly that, boiled...without any flavor on its own (1 star off). Overall, we had a decent meal, but the food felt like slightly elevated cafeteria food rather than that of an established restaurant. I left still feeling the same about Bavarian food unfortunately.
