It could have been more prompt and efficient. We waited for seven minutes before our first acknowledgement by our waiter/ server. It was just my girlfriend and myself. Once the waiter finally came to the table and took our order a lot time had lapse. Never once did come to ask how the food was once our main entrée was delivered. He asked how everything was when he presented the check. During the wait for him to return to the table to take our dessert order, there was a bus boy at the nearby table clearing another table. I asked him to take a plate that was left on our table and he said that the servers job I don't do that. I told him no you need to take it now and he gave me a rather rude look and stare. The intervals from which the waiter came back to the table was very long. It would've helped if the chairs had been padded but they were hard with like school room chairs. The dining room was decorated very nice and the decor and artwork is very tasteful. Music was a little loud. The food was exceptionally good from the appetizer to the main course to our dessert. It was exceptional. That is five stars ONLY - The service really was a lot to be desired for a good tip and review.

It seems like it's been untouched for decades. It may be confusing for some because on Apple Maps it comes up as Cakes and Coffee Cafe (as it does here on Yelp), but the menu says "Randy's Americana Cafe" - not sure if the name changed at some point. Regardless, it was a cool old building with this really long high top lunch counter out in the middle with traditional table seating all around. I came in on a Monday and there was a steady trickle of mostly seniors coming in. I ordered a BLT and it was great- and came out in less than 5 minutes. They had a nice selection of cakes and pies. But the real charm of this place is all the obscure Americana stuff on the walls AND the old vault in the back, which is essentially a guest book. Literally thousands of people have signed the walls in the vault. They even have a step ladder because the walls are so full that the ceiling and mechanicals are about the only available real estate. Of course, no one can know with certainty what caused it, but this was the only meal we had all shared that day that seemed questionable. When I contacted the owner to let them know about our experience, the response was disappointing. The owner said, "I don't know what to do with this information. I'll have to talk to my manager." I explained that we were from out of town and that this breakfast was the only meal shared by the people who became sick. The owner suggested it could have been a virus from a few days earlier. I understand that foodborne illness can be difficult to confirm definitively, and I'm not claiming certainty about the cause. I simply wanted to share our experience so others can make informed decisions.
