We had the most relaxing lunch today in the tree shaded outside garden seating area of the restaurant. We love coming to the park whenever we are in the Western New York area. Our waitress Becka, (I hope I spelled it right) was so attentive and caring. She started by letting us know that the restaurant provides reimbursement if we paid to enter the park. (We didn't because our son is a New York State veteran, but it was the first time we have heard of that policy and appreciated the fact that she cared enough to tell us!) The menu offered many varied choices, and the food was delicious and plentiful although a little more expensive than we usually opt for. DO NOT STAY HERE AND DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE. Our experience with Glen Iris Inn was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. When I made our room reservation online for our wedding stay, the total shown was $780. We paid a $330 deposit to reserve the room, leaving a remaining balance of $450. When we arrived, they even had trouble processing that remaining balance. My confirmation email and the printout from the front desk both clearly showed the exact same total price. Then, on the day we checked out, we were told they had made a mistake. Instead of honoring the confirmed reservation price that we had in writing, they said we owed AN ADDITIONAL $780 on top of the deposit we had already paid. They charged us anyway, despite us showing both pieces of documentation proving the agreed-upon total. Molly assured us she would "take care of it," but nothing was resolved. Now, the wedding... The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, and our vendors were incredible. They are the reason our day is still memorable. Unfortunately, Molly's coordination was a huge disappointment. Despite having a detailed planning call beforehand and providing thorough information well in advance, she hadn't reviewed any of our plans until we arrived the night before the wedding. On the wedding day: - Chairs weren't set up correctly - The seating chart wasn't followed - Guest were seated at wrong tables, including husbands and wives being separated - Our music wasn't set up as planned - Molly never checked in with us throughout the day. She was there when I left the inn to walk down the aisle, and I never saw her again for the rest of the evening. We weren't asking for anything extravagant - just the plans we had carefully prepared to be followed. It felt like our wedding simply wasn't important enough for anyone to pay attention to the details. Thankfully, our family, friends, and amazing vendors made our wedding special despite the venue's lack of organization. But for the amount of money the venue charges, we expected professionalism, attention to detail, and someone who genuinely cared about making our day go smoothly. Instead, we were left dealing with billing issues and a wedding that required our guests and vendors to compensate for poor coordination. The property is beautiful, but the service and wedding coordination simply do not justify the price. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you want a less stressful wedding experience. read more

To a person, the staff at Glen Iris Inn was terrific and the historic Inn itself overlooks the striking Middle Falls and Gorge. Even though it was among the busiest weekends of the year, they responded graciously to a special request and several questions. The White Pine suite was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our only complaint was the restaurant was understaffed (aren't many these days?) and breakfast, including tea and coffee, took nearly 40 minutes to arrive and was cold when it did. Friday, there was cocktail service on the porch, which was awesome, but on Saturday, they said they didn't have the staff to provide it, which was disappointing. There were 20 of us in various cottages as well as the Inn to celebrate a 15th wedding anniversary, and like several attendees have already done, we'll be back. read more

We were in the area on a roadtrip and were suggested to visit The Glen Iris Inn for a gorgeous, scenic outdoor dinner! Glen Iris Inn is located inside of Letchworth State Park. We were seated inside "Caroline's Garden". The dining area/patio is as scenic as it gets. Flowers and nature surround you throughout your entire meal! It is truly a bucket list, must-do meal/experience! Service here is spectacular. We were seated immediately and our server was incredibly attentive, despite an announced large 15+ person party that showed up without reservations or advanced notice. We started off with the Baked French Onion Soup. The portion was generous and filling. Loaded with onions and a rich, flavorful broth. The crock is then broiled with tons of delicious cheese, making for an indulgent start to your meal. Given the filling nature of the Baked French Onion Soup, we decided to split the 16-ounce Prime Rib. The Prime Rib was cooked to our specifications, (medium) and was seasoned perfectly. The natural au-jus was intoxicatingly good! The Prime Rib was served with mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day, Grilled Asparagus. We also requested a side of their legendary horseradish sauce. It is a perfect accompaniment to the juicy, rich Prime Rib. We were both stuffed after our meal and decided to forego dessert in favor of snapping some scenic photos and "walking off" our meal. The only reason I deduced a star was it seemed due to the large, unnaconed party that the portion size suffered. It seemed we got the literal smallest, last-scoop of over-cooked and dried out mashed potatoes. Additionally, the quantity and quality of the asparagus left a lot to be desired. The asparagus was wilted and showed zero signs of life to it. I would probably do a 3.5 if possible. Had lunch there on Sunday. I was the first customer right after it opened up. The hostess ignored me and walked out with a bunch of menus, someone else said she would be right back. After the hostess came back, she just stirred at me without saying a word. I said one for lunch, she said ok, then asked me inside or outside, led me to a table. After I was done with lunch, I walked past her to leave, she looked at me again, not a word. Just very strange behavior for a hostess. The waitress was great, explained the food when I asked about portions, got me water without ice as I asked., checked on me often. I decided on the smoke trout from the appetizer for my lunch. The smoke fish smelt a little fishy but tasted fine. There was a smudge of dark green/ black stuff under the lettuce that was under the fish. I suspect it was some rotten lettuce that didn't get picked out. It didn't touch my food, so I continued to eat, but informed the waitress when she checked on me. She agreed it looked like rotten lettuce and said she would inform the kitchen. No action from the kitchen or staff to address this. The old inn is lovely. I asked for an indoor table, so my view was the garden. If sitting outside you could have the middle falls' view. You can park there and walked to the middle and upper falls trials. Conclusion is the restaurant is just so so, the restaurant needs better training for the hostess and in the kitchen. "Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes" (TLC) Well, you won't see this at too many other hotels, because just a few steps from the Glen Iris Inn's front door is a humongous waterfall on the grounds of Letchworth State Park. The Glen Iris Inn is smack in the middle of the spectacular Letchworth State Park. If you walk out the front door, you'll see the falls, but you can follow a walkway and stairs to get an up-close view of the Middle and Upper Falls. The Inn is more like a B&B than a hotel. Our guest room on the second floor was appropriate to an old house with an old school key and deadbolt lock. When you leave your room, you'll need to use the key to lock your room door. Our room had a nice comfortable bed, a dresser, and two nightstands. The HVAC in the room and the shower in the bathroom shower were great. There is no coffeemaker in your room, but coffee was served on the second floor. The staff we interacted with (front desk attendant, restaurant concierge and our server) were all great. The house restaurant (Caroline's) was beautiful, and we had a nice dinner there. But being that the Glen Iris Inn is an old house, there were some age-related issues. There was noise from the 3rd floor room above - footsteps and creaking floors, but I know that's typical of old house acoustics. There was no TV in our room, but there was one on the 3rd floor lounge. There was a scarcity of outlets in our room, and one I found was so old and worn out, my charger fell out. Our bathroom had a small pedestal sink with pretty much zero counterspace. The staircase from the lobby to the 2nd and 3rd floors was steep and had an open handrail at points, so be careful. There's no elevator, so if you get a room on the 3rd floor, be prepared. read more

This is an outstanding spot! Right on the middle falls, we are outside as we had the dogs. Seated next to the falls the roar is present but not overwhelming! Good was great, wine list is extensive. Smoked trout was the perfect appetizer, not overwhelming but a nice little taste treat! I had the beef spare rib w mashed tots to and broccolini, she had the flatbread appetizer pizza as the main course. Mine was yummy, she liked herescand nspoiky was able to bring back half of her pizza! There really isn't a whole lot around this neck of the woods. If you want convenience, this is the place to be. Prices aren't too terrible here and reservations are recommended, they take walk-ins. I came here for lunch at opening time and I got a spot on a holiday weekend. Menu is standard not with a ton of selections. They have sandwiches, burgers, pasta, salads, etc. Food is average. It really does look like an inn, very rustic feel to it. You can sit outside or inside. It's literally by Middle falls so you can hear the falls if sit outside. There is parking, if full, park across the street. Keep your park ticket, if you want $10 off at the restaurant - huge bonus. read more

In that setting, I had to order a comfort meal for lunch - Pot Roast . It was delicious - Tender beef with mushroom gravy , homemade mashed potatoes , and buttery vegetable medley . The party was told to change their music (throwback hip hop, rnb), then the bartender was sent off a bit early. The food was ok. Well, what does one say about a $23 Mediterranean Plate that includes 6 cucumber slices, 6 4 inch carrot sticks, on e 6- 8 inch pita cut in 6 slices, some tasteless olives from a tin. It works out to about $2 per cucumber slice or carrot stick. Or, what can one say about an $8 "tomato based" wedding soup that was really just a small bowl of marinara with a few mini meatballs. We declined to order anything else, given the initial order. While the server was excellent, the food was beyond disappointing. I wonder how this vendor keeps the contract, or the person who allowed this contract without monitoring it. Someone is getting fat, but not the patrons. One would hope that the state of NY would be interested in providing a delightful resource for visitors of Letchworth Park...isn't that the goal of the park system? Why is this not seen as an administrative embarrassment in handling state resources? My solution: (1) Fire the person responsible for arranging vendors for malfeasance. (2) Certainly, a vendor is entitled to a reasonable profit, but find one who can provide a decent product/service at a reasonable price. (3) Monitor the vendor to make sure that they serve the state residents and patrons. (4) Create a supervisory structure that monitors the awarding of contracts to vendors, and, holds those awarding contracts accountable for the result. read more

The staff at the Glen Iris is great... you can tell they like their jobs and each other. We wanted to love the food but can only say it was OK, especially at the prices. (one breakfast at $23 and dinner for two over $100.) The price of the rooms is what seemed most nflated to us. Rooms are small without a lot of bells and whistles; old air conditioning units and old beds. The best thing about the Glen Iris is the staff and the gift shop. The buyer from the gift shop really knows her stuff; Items were unusual and beautiful, even if the jewelry was a tad expensive. In spite of what we've mentioned, it still was a really nice weekend. We had lunch in Caroline's Garden in the Glen Iris Inn. The restaurant is dog-friendly in the garden, and they brought over a little plate with 3 perfect dog treats and a bowl of water for our pup. All the food was great - loved the Mediteranean Platter, stuffed mushrooms and the Smoked Trout. Our group mostly had salads for lunch and they were perfect. One of our group had the chicken sandwich, and loved it. But the most amazing thing about this restaurant is the garden setting. Surrounded by flowers, you're steps away from the middle falls. First off, I have to say that I had higher expectations for this dinner. However, I understand it was a busy night and there was also a small wedding taking place there as well. My food was good. Just good. Nothing that made me feel like it was worth the amount of money but it was a good dinner. The prime rib was good. I would've liked some au jus with it but still good none the less. The potatoes were delicious. The green beans were green beans, nothing crazy to report there. Overall, for the amount the meal cost, I expected a house salad or something to come with it instead of just one roll and butter. I had never been here before since I heard it was pricey and waited for a special occasion. That being said, I would go somewhere else next time for a special occasion. We went to Glen iris inn when i went to visit in my grandma in New York, its a tradition to hike the park but its a treat when whenever we go for dinner or lunch at the inn. This year we did and the scenerie is beautiful they do such a good job with landscaping, and setting up the little details, also the view is just amazing from the restaurant. I got a hugo spritz and split their Caesar salad and fried with my sister, the salad was definitely big enough for both of us. everyone else got their steak and said it was pretty good. Its nothing crazy but for the view and vibes i think it was worth it. The staff is amazing and so sweet. If you go you need to make an afternoon of it, hike a little and grab a drink and app at the inn. My family stays there when we have big family events and likes it because of the details and waking up on the falls. Its not too big either. read more

This review is for Caroline's, the restaurant at the Glen Iris Inn. We had dinner here last night (a Tues), a party of 4, with 2 people being visitors from Spain. Before arriving, we had spent roughly 3 hours exploring the park, introducing our friends to the 'Grand Canyon of the East', stopping at all the overlooks, and taking in falls, and were looking forward to a good, solid continental meal in the cozy atmosphere of the historic Glen Iris Inn after all the sight-seeing in the decidedly damp and gray fall weather. We had made reservations for 5 pm prior to our arrival, and were glad we did because the restaurant was almost completely full. We were definitely the youngest diners (all of us in our 50s and 60s) and had the feeling that many of the other diners were staying at the hotel (i.e. it was pretty brisk weather wise outside, and folks were arriving without coats). Our server is the main reason for this review - being that she made up for the poor quality of the food with her friendliness and attentiveness. Food wise, we ordered appetizers, bar drinks, mains and dessert. For appetizers, their soup of the day was pumpkin bisque and 2 of us had this. We had asked if it was a sweet or savory preparation, and though our server said it was savory, it was unfortunately sweet - like eating a warm liquid-y bowl of pumpkin pie, complete with pumpkin pie spice. Not good. One friend got a 'small side Caesar salad' which was definitely a dinner-sized portion, which he split with the rest of us. Our other friend got the French onion soup which she thought was very good. For our mains, my husband and I split the 20-oz prime rib, with butter-and-dill green beans and country mashed potatoes, plus a 'side salad' with blueberries, blue cheese, lettuces and other veggies. The prime rib was served luke warm at best, with an au jus that quickly congealed upon being set on the table. The meat was tender but bland, and the jus did not help it at all. The beans were very plain - no sign of the 'dill', and the 'country mashed potatoes' were just your basic mashed potatoes, which were fine. The 'side salad' was another huge portion, with lots of blueberries and nice fresh lettuce, but it was served with a sweet poppy seed dressing which just did not go well with the other flavors in the salad. Why not serve this with a light blue cheese dressing?? Overall, both dishes, the prime rib with sides and the salad, were not what we expected. Our friends ordered the salmon filet with the beans and country mashed potatoes and the pork chop with the same sides. The salmon was not local and appeared to be farmed as it was nearly white in color; our friend ate about half of it. The pork chop was a bit better - with good flavor and it was cooked properly, but there was a huge bone in it and a lot of fat, and even though our friend ate all the meaty bits, her plate looked as though she hadn't eaten much of the pork. Another couple of misses. For dessert, we all split a chocolate-fudge-and-chocolate-mousse concoction that tasted chocolatey and sweet, but was obviously just a bunch of things piled into a plate with whipped cream. I had really expected more from this place, given the location, the connection to this historic hotel, and the prices. I would not recommend this place, and will not eat here again. I was hiking Letchworth and realized there was restaurants INSIDE the park and had to try it. Came here for lunch and was seated quickly inside. (Friday) I saw someone has the poutine on my way in and I had to try it. I also tried the chicken wings which were amazing! Drinks are good but light. Had the pineapple mojito which tasted amazing like juice. The service is super kind and helpful. Overall great food and was left wanting more wings! Side note. If you dine with them they honor your parking pass and deduce it from your bill. This didn't apply to me due to having the Empire Pass but it's can be helpful information for someone else. read more

We came for dinner, but there are also rooms to rent here and other properties booked through Glen Iris Inn. Based on our experience and observations, service can be a bit spotty depending on who's at the front of house or serving, but you can't beat the location. We had a beautiful view of the gardens out one set of windows, and the mist from the falls out the other. The restaurant itself appears a little dated, but it's clean and well-kept. For me, the big draw was the prime rib poutine and it delivered. A few cheese curds were too cold, a typical problem with poutine, but fine once I moved them around to the hotter center of the plate. Though it's listed under small plates, it's a filling meal. The prime rib was medium but tender and flavorful. My husband had the actual prime rib dinner, and it's a huge cut of meat. You definitely get your money's worth. Cooked medium rare to order, and very tasty. It comes with mashed potatoes or a baked potato. He chose mashed, and enjoyed it. The kids has chicken tenders off the kids menu, and enjoyed their chicken, leaving only a handful of fries. They have a couple of bourbon flights. I tried the NY flight. The wine list is extensive, and they have a lot of novel seasonal cocktails as well. A satisfying end to our visit. read more

This is easily one of the nicest restaurants at any state or national park in the US. From a facilities standpoint, Caroline's Courtyard is breathtaking. You can enjoy listening to the Middle Falls during your meal. One of the most beautiful patios we've ever eaten on anywhere. The building is also gorgeous. Food is also delicious, though plating is rather plain, as you can see from our photos. Don't let that deter you. After a long 14 mile hike in Letchworth Park, we were famished and thirsty! We were heading back to our car and decided to stop in the Inn since it was on the way. Beautiful grounds and the interior was equally pretty. We got seated right away despite our slightly disheveled hikers look but the hostess didn't get an eye. The dining room was much bigger than I expected too. Since it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner, we opted for their apps and small plates. We were so happy to see that they had warm Danish brie with a berry compote as one of their choices! Usually brie served is French but I prefer the Danish version of it, so it was a total delicious score. Their smoke trout appetizer was a generous portion and melt in your mouth and their Mediterranean plate didn't disappoint either. Decided to indulge and have dessert too and their cheesecake with peach Melba worked perfectly. Price vs. Portions was spot on. The Glen Inn is a beautiful, charming, historic hotel with a gift shop and restaurant located within a short walk to the Middle Falls. Took my mom here for Mother's Day;even though it was a rainy day the atmosphere, in addition to the phenomenal service received and openess with a view made it memorable. Pat, are waitor was very patient, attentive and didn't rush the meal or our experience . Two things important for fine dining: 1. Presentation/ Quality 2. Service During COVID, their was a limited menu but still enough choices for a holiday. The taste and flavoring of both are meals were spot on, and cooked perfectly. An extra add bonus was with the restaurant being located in Letchworth State Park, you received $10 off your bill for parking. Review is just for restaurant/dining room. We came here around noon and had lunch. We were seated within 15 minutes. The restroom was clean and the inn has an antique vibe to it. According to the hostess, there is no take out, dining in only. Outdoor seating was available since the weather was bad which was understandable. The view of Middle Falls I believe is visible from the the inn but it's not a far walk to get to Middle Falls. The menu wasn't all that interesting or unique besides the prime rib poutine. It was basic dishes, such as pot roast, thanksgiving style dinner so we ended up just trying the burger which was also standard. The price of the food was a little pricey like $15 for the burger. Since it's my first time trying poutine I can't compare it to anything but it was really salty and was drowning in gravy. They didn't skimp on the and it was pretty good besides the salt level. Burger has a thick patty and was cooked according to my boyfriend's preference. The waitress was nice enough to let us know that since we paid the park fee of $10 if we brought our receipt in we get $10 off our bill! That was really nice! I will begin by saying that I have been to this restaurant many times over the years and I was pleased with the service and the meal, albeit a bit pricey. However, on 6/22/2025, my daughter and I went there a little before 5 pm for dinner. Sadly, we were "served" by a very rude waitress. She stated that had she known we wanted the dinner menu (instead of the "interlude" menu) that she would not have seated us until 5 pm, even though the place was nearly empty. On that note, she walked away and left us sitting there with no water or dinner menus. Two families with kids came in a few minutes later, still before 5 pm, were seated in a different area of the place, with different servers, and were immediately served water and were given dinner menus. There were 2 waitresses in our area and, sadly, neither one would serve us. About 15 minutes later, we grew tired of waiting and asked the guy manning the desk at the entrance to be seated somewhere else in a nearly empty restaurant. His reply, "All the other tables are already reserved". Our waitress tried to start an argument, which I refused to answer. At long last, the regular hostess, whom I am assuming is the manager, arrived. At that point, our waitress morphed into a completely different person, kind, courteous, helpful. We had dinner although we were dismayed by what had happened. We paid our bill, almost $90 for 2 chicken parmesan dinners with a tip and left with a sad feeling about what had happened. Very disappointed with the customer service. Due to unfortunate circumstances we were unable to keep our reservations. Our fire chief was killed in the line of duty and his funeral arrangements were during our stay. We notified The Glen Iris Inn the day the information was released to the department. The women we spoke to said simply said we would continue to be charged the deposit and if the room did get booked we would be charged additional fees. read more

We will never return here! My husband and I chose to celebrate our anniversary dinner at the Glen Iris. Our server was kind and considerate, but the wait time for our drinks, appetizer and entrees was very long. When my wild mushroom risotto finally arrived it was soupy, cold and flavorless. I asked for a replacement of a simple French onion soup and salmon salad. The French onion soup was good. The salad was absolutely disgusting. Rather than a fillet of salmon, it was prepared with canned salmon--mushy, smelly, pale slop. I took one bite which had a bone in it. I don't remember a time when I returned an entree, let alone two in one meal!! It's shameful for a restaurant in New York's #1 State Park and international destination to represent our local area so poorly. read more
