Me and my husband love going hiking in letchworth and decided to have breakfast in glen iris and I'm so happy we did! The service was great! They have indoor and outdoor seating. We had the best breakfast! I had the country breakfast which came with eggs, your choice of bacon or sausage I chose bacon and home fries with four pieces of rye toast. They had two homemade jams and omg let me tell you I couldn't stop eating it!! Served rare scallops, rare salmon to a pregnant woman, risotto was undercooked yet over manipulated to make mushy poorly seasoned with raw corn and garlic, runny, dolma were stuffed into old bitter grape leaves ( horrible lingering aftertaste) etc. they charged a small fortune. There's just nothing special to the dining experience here besides the fact that you're in Letchworth. We come here every year for mothers day (my mom really likes it here) but I honestly can't figure out why. This year's experience was one of the worst. Everyone at the table (party of 9) said their food was cold or room temperature... Is that fine dining? Our service was not great, no smiles, no friendly introduction, overall it was just cold, very serious and we didn't feel welcomed. We were with my elderly grandparents who cant stand too long without needing a seat. We checked on our reservation before bringing them in from the car and the woman that helped us just had such an unpleasant demeanor and kind of brushed us off. We were able to sit in an extra room they had while we waited so that was helpful but they made it seem like we were inconveniencing them. This is not an inexpensive dining experience and with service this poor just on service alone I wouldn't recommend or want to come back but the food is also nothing special. Now, at least the food is not bad but it's not great. Almost everyone at our table got either the filet mignon or prime rib and everyone was grabbing for the salt. The meat, especially the filet just had no seasoning, we were basically just served naked meat. It was grilled decently, I asked for medium rare and received medium. Not the end of the world but again this is a nice expensive restaurant... Just not worth the money in my opinion. If you find yourself at letchworth and you're starving give it a try but I strongly recommend you do not go out of your way to come here. read more

Disclaimer: the review is only regarding the food and beverages and not staying overnight at the hotel. First off, I just want to mention that one of the employees here was not wearing a face mask and she was wearing a plastic covering on her chin which wasn't necessarily cover her nose and mouth. The food here was ok but I just don't think it's worth the price point that we paid for. The steak was pretty dry even though we ordered medium rare. The scallops came out chewy and watery. The shrimp in shrimp cocktail was pretty small in size and the cocktail sauce tasted like they definitely mixed it with ketchup. We enjoyed the French onion soup, the sides, and the bread but those weren't the main course we ordered and we were somewhat disappointed. The seasonal house sangria that I ordered was extremely watered down and honestly just tasted like flavored water. Our server was great and he was attentive to our needs. Overall I really would not recommend this restaurant unless you're staying at the hotel or if you're fine with ok quality food at a higher price point. read more

It's probably one of the most notable buildings at Letchworth State Park. A sight when driving through to the Upper Falls, the Glen Iris Inn once served as the country estate for park founder William Pryor Letchworth. A historical landmark in itself, it provides a beautiful setting for a lovely dining experience and (as I can only imagine) inn. I've only ever eaten here once or twice, as my trips to Letchworth are often accompanied by a quiet picnic overlooking the park's beautiful gorges. I'll usually take the least expensive route in bringing my own food, but there's definitely a good pull about this restaurant that always keeps it busy when it's open for the season. That being said, the last time we ate here we made reservations before going to visit Mary Jemison and the museum on site. They fill up fast and typically will give you a couple of hours to kill when you make a reservation anyway, so keep that in mind! Their menu definitely has a good variety - I distinctly remember seeing gluten free options, which is always a plus! Their menu definitely leans on to the more expensive side, but the food is worth the price (and if you keep your park ticket from entry, they will give you a discount!). I can't really remember what I ordered the last time I was here, but I absolutely remember licking my plate clean. I consider it such a privilege to be able to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner at a beautiful place like this. If you're a frequent visitor of Letchworth, definitely dine here at least once! read more

After a day of hanging out in the park in the rain, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice sit-down dinner. Atmosphere was very nice - classic warm ambiance and if you listen, you can hear Middle Falls thundering down. Husband had 12 ounce Prime Rib with mashed potatoes and Parmesan green beans. The meat was cooked as he asked and was served with Jus but not horseradish. I had the Mediterranean bowl with Israeli couscous, artichoke hearts, green, black, and kalamata olives, roasted chickpeas, spinach, tomatoes in a lemon vinaigrette. It was good but a bit heavy on the spinach and chickpeas. Didn't look substantial but was very filling. My salad was overdressed and the dinner rolls were very stale. We each enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir but passed on dessert. Service was pleasant and efficient. We enjoyed getting out of the mist but were not wowed by the food. read more

We chose the Glen Iris Inn for our daughter's wedding in June 2023. I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff was to work with, and in particular Molly, our food and beverage coordinator who worked with us on every detail. She helped us work out the menus, gave us suggestions, was very communicative with all of our questions, and kept our wedding party in line on the big day. Honestly, everything went perfectly. The catering staff were attentive and friendly, and everyone at the wedding RAVED about the food. We never had a chance to eat at the Glen Iris in advance or sample the food, and with all the general concerns about finding enough help for service businesses, I was concerned how things would go. We arrived from out of state and stayed in Caroline's Cottage. The rehearsal dinner was on the property and went well. Molly knew our photographer and dj, and the three of them worked so well together that it was like having the perfect dream team. From the bartenders to the kitchen staff to the catering team, everyone made our daughter's day special and we greatly appreciate that. read more

This is a review of the inn, not the restaurant - it's kind of weird that yelp doesn't separate them, as people thinking about visiting one probably don't care much about the quality of the other (though we did eat breakfast, which is not included with the room - it was decent enough, and reasonably priced, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again, obviously.) For the room... it was pretty much about what I expected, less like an inn, more like staying in a room in a hundred year old mansion, for good and bad. The bad: the inexpensive rooms are quite small and won't have much of a view (though they do have a common room, the "library", that has a great view), and at least in our case, will be on the third floor, up a creaky (feels historic, not worrisome) staircase with no elevator, so hopefully you didn't bring too much luggage. I didn't, however, expect the bed to be one of the most comfortable beds I've ever had the pleasure to use at a hotel, though, which it did. My wife also made me promise I would mention the fact that the provided soap was of unusually high quality. Overall, for the price, if it were just a random inn in a random city for the same price, it wouldn't be anything special, but given that you're literally right next to one of the nicer falls in New York (and there are certainly a lot to choose from!), it seems like a steal. And yes, there is totally no cell reception anywhere around, so it's also great to have wifi while you're in the park. Their wifi was pretty slow, as might be expected, but was generally reliable, just sometimes slow. read more

I have been coming here for 30 years. The rooms here are delightful, and I recommend the cherry suite if you can get it. You need to book it months in advance. It has a balcony with a magnificent view of the middle waterfalls. All of the rooms here are fine. On the negative side, they simply don't come in and make your bed or straighten up or have any kind of maid service at this hotel. They clean up nicely after you check out and when you check in, your room will be in perfect condition, but don't expect your bed to be made or your towels changed while you stay here. The water pressure is fine and the air conditioning and heating is controlled by you so you will find yourself in perfect comfort. There is a library on the third floor if you care to sit with friends and talk, and they have a decent restaurant right on premises that serves three meals a day. There are plenty of places to sit, benches and Adirondack chairs, and hiking trails and I really have no complaints about the glen iris inn and will continue coming here. read more

Charming Inn with the perfect location - adjacent to the middle falls of the Grand Canyon of the East. Take advantage of the adirondack chairs outside to enjoy a cocktail while the cool breeze is coming off the water. The staff could not have been friendlier or more knowledgable. From the Inn to the Nature Preserve to the Museum, everyone made you feel like family. The only negatives for us are most likely temporary issues and were facilities' based, not hospitality concerns: (a.) our room's central air conditioning did not work so overnight was incredibly hot. Another guest had a similar comment when we were at the front desk so I am sure they have had an HVAC pro in by now to fix the issue; (b.) the windows in our room did not have any screens, so when we tried to sleep with them open to allow some airflow, gnats and mosquitoes buzzed throughout the night; (c.) wifi is weak. With the popularity of hiking/biking trail apps, it needs to be strong enough to download details at the Inn before heading into Letchworth. All meals were comforting...breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner over the days were flavorful and fresh. Local honey and crafts are for sale in the cute first floor gift shoppe. The location is absolutely perfect!!! The view of the waterfall (which is illuminated at night) can't be beat! The building, a bit dated, but in a good way.... lots of wood and lots (!!!) of wallpaper from decades ago. The rooms are pretty basic: a bed, a chair, an armoire.... no television, spotty wifi, a bathroom like you'd find at your grandma's house. The service is friendly. Covid protocols (so important!) seemed to be understood and followed. Our room was sanitized and sealed with a sticker. Masks were required in all public areas (and people complied.... yay). Tables for dining in both the restaurant and out on the patio (and lawn) were amply distanced. The food (we had one dinner and two breakfasts) was good, but not great. Certainly edible, but nothing to "write home about". For dinner I ordered a Filet Mignon which came with a salad, vegetable, and a choice of potato. Rolls and (packets of) butter were brought to the table. The salad was fresh and tasty. My steak was the thinnest "filet" I had ever seen. Tasty but less than an inch high. It was certainly not what I was expecting. The baked potato was over-cooked and the green beans mushy... but it was toward the end of the posted time for dinner, so perhaps both were sitting around warming for too long. The bread pudding we ordered to share for dessert came out cold, and the "whipped cream" was artificial whipped topping. Breakfasts were a bit better. Excellent coffee was served both mornings (with a little pot brought to the table to allow for frequent refills). On the first morning I had the "Healthy Start" with oatmeal, a muffin, and fruit. The oatmeal was perfectly cooked and came with a little pitcher of warm milk (yay), but the muffin was very greasy, and the fruit forgotten (until it was requested.... twice). The second day's breakfast of coffee and an English muffin with jam was simple and good. This is a place I would recommend visiting (again and again). Right in the middle of Letchworth State Park, the location can't be beat. We were there in summer, which was lovely.... but I would imagine a visit in the autumn would be absolutely breathtaking! read more

Again, a delicious holiday meal. Why not five stars? Because after a large table nearby was vacated, there was food garbage left over the floor surrounding a high chair. Neither the hostess who picked up the silverware from the floor, the busser who cleaned the table, or the waiter took ownership of the mess. There's really nothing special about this place except its location within the park. The most recent time I visited for lunch, my sister, at age 55 was the youngest patron by about 20 years. That tells you a lot. One old woman's cell phone alarm went off uninterrupted for 45 minutes. No staff member did anything about it. Our server was good. The food was ok but there's not much else to say. Nothing memorable. It's 2018 - and it would be nice if my choice of sides with my sandwich weren't limited to just fries and chips. Ridiculous. Out of everything we ordered, surprisingly the mediterranean platter was my favourite. As for our interactions with the inn staff, they all seemed disinterested, if not downright rude, with the exception of the hostess at the restaurant. She greeted us nicely and helped us get our morning coffee. The Glen Iris Inn is a bed and breakfast located inside the old home of William Letchworth. The grounds are beautiful. My family has been staying at Letchworth for many years. A family meal at the Glen Iris Inn is one of our favorite traditions. The restaurant overlooks the Middle Falls of Letchworth! The Inn is a great place to visit at any time of the year. Letchworth experiences all four seasons in the most beautiful ways. The staff at the inn do an amazing job decorating for each holiday and season. I especially love the flowers in the spring and the pumpkins and Autumn leaves in the Fall. It is fun to have an upscale meal in the middle of the wilderness. The food at the inn is spectacular! They have a ton of seasonal specialties. They make a homemade caramel apple sangria in the Fall that is absolutely to die for. Their pumpkin creme brulee is also ridiculously delicious. My favorite entrees are the Angel in Heaven pasta, prime rib, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp with mashed potatoes. They also have excellent appetizers. My favorite is definitely the baked brie topped with mixed berries. It is divine. They have a gift shop up front that sells unique jewelry and home decor. I can't stop in without finding something that I love. Even if you don't end up going to the restaurant, it is definitely worth stopping at the Inn and walking around. The fountain, landscaping and gardens are gorgeous! The Middle Falls are also a must-see! There is a pathway from the Inn that leads to a walk along the falls with closer overlooks. This is a bed & breakfast and restaurant located in the heart of Letchworth State Park. It was formerly an estate that belonged to William Letchworth, but it has been repurposed and you can now stay here. My wife and I spent a night here in their Cherry Suite most recently and had a decent experience. While the Cherry Suite is not modern by any stretch of the imagination, it's a large room with a nice bathroom with a jet tub inside it. The wallpaper and decor of the room portray a feeling of early 1900 royalty so it's definitely an experience to stay here, but do not expect anything modern aside from somewhat spotty wifi. There is no TV in the suite, although the hotel does have a common space and library which has TV accommodations. The Cherry Suite also has a balcony with a table that looks out on the Middle Falls. While you don't have a perfect view of it; it's still very nice. It's also very soothing to fall asleep to the sound of the waterfalls. The jet tub works well and is a nice addition to the room, although it's a little small for two people. Perfect for one though. The hotel books out around October during the leaf change time so if you want a reservation during a weekend, you really have to make it early or try to get a last minute one on a cancellation. I thought it was pricey too and unfortunately breakfast is not included. The B&B could really improve by: - Having coffee makers or tea makers in the various rooms. - While candles may be a fire hazard, some sort of fake candle options may be nice for the romantic suites. - At the very least offering free breakfast for the hotel guests. read more

It was dry & tough, they were stingy with the gravy and I don't understand why, it's not expensive and it's easy to make. More gravy would have helped the dry issue. The carrots tasted like dirt, they weren't peeled and didn't taste as though they'd been washed. The potatoes were dry and too firm. No roll/bread came with it. Paid $23 for cheapest meal to make and it bombed. Husband ordered a burger, he said it was decent. We had bread pudding for dessert and it was worst bread pudding we've ever eaten. We talked to the elderly couple next to us bc they ordered same dessert and they agreed it was the worst bread pudding they ever had as well. My point in this review is not to diss a historical home/restaurant but it's to let you know you can visit the establishment without wasting your money on the food. "Caroline's" is the restaurant inside the Glen Iris Inn. She had the Tuna Croissant ($20) and I had the Monte Cristo ($19) and each came with a choice of fries or "New York Chips". We both had the chips which are from Marquet Farms of nearby Gainesville, NY, just outside the park. She said the Tuna sandwich was packed with tuna and needed a container for what she could not finish. She also had the French Onion Soup, whcih she found to be chocked with onions. My Monte Cristo teamed with the flaoverful traditonal Monte Cristo sauce. It seemed that the dining room is a bit worn and not what I remembered from long ago visits. No white table linens and flies were abundent. (Ugh!) That being said, this is inside the park and has only limited snack bar competition. Our waitress was L...and while certainly provided us satisfactory service, was not overly warm. (You are dealing with tourists and vacationers, L...) Apparently they will take the admission price off of your price, but we came into the park free as over 62 New York State residents. The dining room is named for park founder William Pryor Letchworth's assistant and secretary, Caroline. You may dine either inside or out. I really enjoyed the lunch. A nice piece of salmon for $14 and the mashed pototes and carrots when a nice side. Added bonus they give you back the $10 park gate admission. Quick service and an overall great lunch on this beautiful Sunday. read more
