Long before fax machines, pagers, cell phones, or the internet, I was driving out to their location on Katella Avenue in Cypress to place orders in person, grabbing lunch at the little Chinese restaurant next door before heading back to the job site. That's how far back we go. Over the years I worked closely with Victor Conkle, and watching this family business grow has been something special. Today, Dallas and Jeff Conkle are running California Windows, and they have taken everything that was built before them and grown it into the most reliable, knowledgeable, and trusted window and door company in Orange County. In all that time, one thing has never changed: the Conkle family and their team are simply the best in the business. The consultation, the measurements, the product selection, the installation every step is handled with a level of professionalism and precision that is genuinely hard to find. Installations are as close to perfect as anything I've seen in this industry. There's a reason they've outlasted so many competitors over the decades. When times get tough in construction, the companies that survive are the ones that earned their reputation through actual quality and reliability. The Conkle family did exactly that. Whether you're a homeowner, a remodeling contractor, or a production builder in Orange County, if you're looking for people you can trust to do it right the first time, look no further than California Windows. They explained the process before starting and we're considerate when the front door entry was limited access while they had the stucco dry. They also verified the small detail changes in the door handle and had me try the door several times before they left. I was impressed by the end result. Huge difference in a proper working door compared to before. Great attention to detail to explain the issue with the last door. I recommend their service for Great quality work.

I made an appointment, and they completely stood me up. Later, they claimed they tried to call me or left a voicemail to change the appointment, which is not true. They never called or left any message. I have documentation as evidence, but I chose not to continue the conversation because Max kept defending himself and arguing instead of trying to resolve the issue. They also had my mailing address incorrect. I spoke with Max the day before my appointment to correct it, yet there were still multiple errors. Overall, the business seems very unorganized. The receptionist told me Max was in the office, so I was surprised when Max later claimed my appointment was with a different representative. This inconsistency felt very unprofessional and questionable. I took time out of my day for this appointment, and it is extremely rude and unprofessional that they never showed up. I do not recommend doing business with this company. There are many other businesses that provide much better customer service.

It was clear it was time for a replacement. Before choosing James, I got a quote from a very popular windows and doors company in Orange County. James, the owner of Lucero's Windows and Doors, not only offered the best price but was also extremely responsive. He mentioned that he previously worked as a Home Depot installer, which gave me confidence that he was properly trained. I was initially cautious because of the low number of reviews, but the consistent perfect scores from other customers made me optimistic. Now, after working with him, I can confidently say that Lucero's Windows and Doors is the real deal. Because our home required a custom-sized door, James came out twice to take measurements. After about two weeks, the custom entry door arrived, and he completed the installation in a single day. He told me our home was one of the oldest he's worked on, and the walls were very different from newer builds. Despite the challenges, he made everything fit perfectly, and the final result looks fantastic. We no longer feel a draft under the door, and it swings smoothly without any issues.

Very communicative and on top of things even before we confirmed going with him. The price. James's price is competitive, we also reached out to other door vendors in the area, his price came back within our budget. He's also very knowledgeable about the product and can tell he's been in the industry for a long time. It took James 2 days to get all doors installed. He was courteous and mindful getting work done. We had one door that had some problem with our floor not leveled, he assured us it would be resolved. For the utility door, the quality is above our expectation as an exterior door that not guest facing, and he complimented the hardware for us without charging since our own hardware is garbage. My partner is a very peculiar person with details. He's very happy about James work that alone speaks his work quality. I would definitely hire James again if we have door or window job, would take his referral for other jobs needed!

    Montecito Heights

(This review includes a response to the business owner's reply)…read more I had a deeply disappointing experience with Paul's Windows, and I want to share it so that other homeowners know what to expect before working with this company. I reached out for a small bedroom window replacement and had one key requirement: that the new window, once installed, provide a minimum clear opening height of 13 inches. The sales associate, Art, confirmed via text that the manufacturer (Crystal Pacific) said it would: 13.1875", in fact. That was fine by me. But when I asked for that specification to be confirmed in the contract, in writing, Art refused. Let me be clear: I wasn't asking for a personal warranty on the product. I simply wanted confirmation that the installed window, as ordered and managed by Paul's Windows, would meet the functional requirement I had clearly communicated. Art repeatedly deflected, referring to "what the manufacturer said," but was unwilling to take responsibility for the result. When I asked for accountability, he became dismissive and eventually walked away from the job. I contacted Paul directly, hoping for a more professional response. Instead, I received a generic brush-off and a claim that the window wouldn't meet the specs, which contradicts what their own sales associate had already confirmed. Worse, Paul didn't acknowledge or engage with any of the valid concerns I raised around basic customer service, transparency, or professional responsibility. Ultimately, I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I was hiring a company to manage a job and deliver a specific result. If something went wrong, say, the manufacturer provided a window that didn't meet the spec, it would be on the contractor to resolve it, not on me to go chase down the supplier. That's what any responsible company would do. But Paul's Windows made it clear they don't see it that way. If you're okay with vague communication, contractors who won't stand behind their own work, and potentially being left to deal with problems on your own, maybe this company is fine. But if you want clarity, professionalism, and accountability in writing, then look elsewhere. § Paul's response below is a classic damage control move -- polite on the surface, but full of deflection and quiet rewriting of events. To clarify: the window in question would have met the required 13" clear opening. That wasn't in dispute. Art, their sales associate, confirmed that in writing and was fully prepared to proceed with the job -- until I asked for a simple written accountability. That's the moment everything fell apart. Paul's follow-up misrepresents the timeline and sidesteps the core issue -- not whether the window would fit, but whether the company was willing to stand behind the result they were being paid to deliver.

After signing the contract the windows were ordered and arrived in about 3 weeks. The installation team worked quickly and Art was there to see it complete. Retrofitted the windows to fit in my existing frames to avoid having to work on the wall. Added the grids to match the style of the old windows since I have a condo and HOA would probably have an issue if not everyone's windows matched since it's a shared building.
