We are in Glasgow, Scotland and this is the quality of the Marriott here!! Is this a joke?!? Sleep Inns in SLC, UT have a lot better standards than this. The room they gave us as Elite member is pathetic! We checked in at 2 pm and when went to the room noticed the AC doesn't work and the room is pretty hot. So we called and let the front desk know. One hour passed and still nothing, so we got a hold of a cleaning lady on the hall and got a table fan. She said she will let the maintenance people know about it. By 9 pm we made 2 more calls and asked to move us to another room on our last call. That's when they informed us that they don't have any more rooms available and will send another table fan...wow! The hotel itself is old. The window in the room won't open more than 4 fingers, we are sweating like crazy. In the bathroom the toilet won't flash properly, you need to wait and flash 2-3 times. So far all the hotels we stayed in during this trip had USB ports in the room, this one doesn't have any. We have our adapters so used that to charge our devices. Also, all the other hotels gave us some complimentary water bottles in the room, this hotel didn't. I am very much disappointed by the service we received as Elite member here. I would have given this hotel an one star, but the staff are nice. This whole hotel needs an renovation, they need to modernize everything. I wonder how did the franchise let them to keep the brand name with such bad quality! read more

Clean rooms, nice lounge, conveniently located. So yeah, it's a business hotel (with associated meeting rooms and whatnot). Which is good - the decor is entirely predictable (if you've been to the Kensington Marriott in London, you've been here). The staff is *very* friendly, and happy to help. A friend of mine had sent over cake/pastries as a birthday surprise, and the hotel tossed in a bottle of bubbly on their own... That said, do note that the fixtures are, well, British (wonky plumbing, etc.) Incidentally, they *do* have a lounge, and if you've got relevant status, theres a light breakfast and drinks in the evening. Nothing to write home about, but good coffee is always welcome! read more

Stayed here for 1 night to explore the city of Glasgow. Decent size paid parking lot (~12£) behind the facility, fairly reasonable given the high parking prices elsewhere. Hotel is definitely not the newest, but the lobby looks remodeled in the last few years. Comfortable seating, a nice restauarnt with a great breakfast spread (best I saw on the trip). Front desk was nice and efficient, gave us a lounge key since we arrived early and guided us to the hop-on hop-off tourist bus across the street. Got a room with two queens. Beds were comfortable enough, floor was relatively quiet as well. Room itself was not the newest but acceptable in terms of age, although still had to hunt for power outlets. Everything worked in the bathroom, although the toilet took a long time to refill between flushes which was a major PITA. No issues with wi-fi, fast and did the job. Lounge wasn't overcrowded but food and drinks weren't refilled in a timely manner and the single lounge attendant looked highly stressed. Thats what happens with free alcohol I guess. read more

We were stuck in the elevator for 15 minutes and then took the stairs down to only experienced locked floors, employee entrances and fire exits that were closed. I booked the Marriott hotel via booking.com and all went well. We attended an event in one of their function rooms such the location was ideal. The room was well proportioned and the bathroom quite large with a big bath on offer. I got 2 massive twin beds. The room was just beside the elevator, but still, I slept well. The hotel was clean throughout. At arrival we were greeted by a very cheerful receptionist, who was very helpful at the check in. The whole night was a success as the function room in itself was well organised and prepared. On occasion the staff was so over enthusiastic and helpful that I had to continuously ask for my drinks back when they had collected my full glasses from the tables beside me. The location is ideally situated near the shopping and sightseeing district in Glasgow, but also near Central station. I will be back. read more

Absolutely the worst hotel experience I have had in the last decade. The A/C in the room broke my first day. I was told that a pipe broke and none of the rooms had A/C. They provided me a fan because I assume they believe blowing hot air around is an improvement. After waking up several times in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat I was looking forward to a working A/C as they told me they have a crew working on it and will be fixed by morning at the latest. Not true. When I called in the morning to inquire why I was still in a hot room she stated that she will have someone check my room. After returning from meeting I was provided a 2nd fan. I again suppose so I can blow around 2x the hot air. I have also ruled out that all rooms are affected because the 12th floor lounge (a converted hotel room) is very cool but there are several co-workers who also are without A/C. The rest of the hotel is in a dire need of updates from water stained carpet in the hallways to extremely old paint in the rooms and walls throughout the hotel. I would strongly recommend other hotels in the area. This place is pathetic who has demonstrated a clear practice of not caring about Their customer. I have received no apology, or offered ANY restitution for the very large inconvenience of not being able to sit in my room to work. I will not return and may check out early. read more

Miserably hot and unapologetic. Checked in today, my husband is lifetime titanium with Marriott, and they didn't bother to tell us that the air conditioning didn't work until we complained about the room being hot and the air not working. At that time they told us the air wasn't functioning properly (duh), sent up a small oscillating fan, and told us we could open the window, (which the fan cannot be in due to the electrical outlet locations). They also told us the hotel was full (it clearly is NOT based on lack of people around and plenty of parking spaces) and only offered to half price our stay. That doesn't make our room acceptable! This is unacceptable for a full service Marriott hotel and I cannot recommend staying here to anybody visiting Glasgow. read more

It's ... a Marriott. Room is fine, bed was comfortable, decor was a bit old but not shabby. Good location for walking into downtown. Main restaurant is pricy but adequate, food-wise. Wifi sign-ons are dodgy (and expensive). I usually stay at the Radisson, and would have this time if they hadn't been full up. All told, I'll try the Radisson next time, too, but the Marriott is an adequate fall-back. read more

Not stayed in here before, but have used their conference facilities a few times. I've stayed in at least one other Marriott Hotel and this one looks much the same. This one is a 4-star. It is near a few different train stations and is easy enough to get to, though overlooking a busy motorway is a bit off-putting for an expensive Hotel stay. It's near a few Glasgow highlights like the Glasgow Science Centre and is more out the way than some of the more centrally located hotels like The Millennium Hotel which will either be good or bad depending on what you are after. It was a great venue for our recent University graduation where we all had a great night with great service at the bar, which was, as expected, pricy. With so many hotels to choose from in the city centre, it is difficult to choose. It depends on your budget and preferred location I guess. Having never actually spent the night here, I cant offer any concrete recommendations on whether or not this is a strong contender for a Glasgow highlight. Judging from the other reviews on Yelp though, I doubt if it is memorable enough to merit the cost. read more

I was given a free facial treatment voucher from one of the hotel managers after meeting with him to discuss possibly working together in the future. It took me nearly a week to book in to get my facial in the first place, due to the booking service not working, the phone going straight to another salon and no one answering the phone. I was a little put off by this to be honest. When I did get booked, I had booked in for 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon. When I arrived the place was in darkness and once the lights had been "fixed" I went back into the reception area. Where I sat for at least 10 mins before someone came to reception, the girl didn't ask me for my voucher so I could have kept it effectively and used again! Filling in the form about who I was etc, I noticed that they hadn't asked for any allergies as I have two pretty severe ones and I had to then inform the staff that I had these. When I asked them to check their products i got "Yeah we don't have these in our stuff" and I asked once again for her to check. That was all I needed a trip to A & E! My facial was ok but not great to be honest. The area itself is very small and everything seems crammed in as you will see from my pics. I really don't think I will be going back! read more

There are worse hotels than this which keep this review from earning a single star, but this hotel comes close. Considering the fact that this is a flagship Marriott in the Capital of Scotland... come on! The location isn't bad, just a short walk from the main downtown spots which provide some saving grace. But the hotel itself is more of a value-motel than a Marriott. When you enter, you are welcomed into a contemporary style decor with an open lobby, restaurant, bar and meeting rooms. It could be modernized, but it doesn't have to be in order to be good. However, the carpets and furniture could be updated/replaced because no one wants to hang out around 20-year old looking/feeling seats and floors. The rooms at this hotel were beyond disappointing. The air conditioning here was a small fan... that's right. In a warm and humid place, the best I could do was turn on a small desk fan. The beds were old and uncomfortable, the furniture far outdated and just out of good condition. The hallways looked like I was back in the 70's (and I wasn't even born yet!). I would hope that Marriott would invest some money into bringing this place up to the Category 6 hotel it lists it at on their website because it is definitely not anywhere near that. The Hilton behind this location might be a better option, or one of the smaller local hotels. That would be my suggestion unless they do some drastic improvements. Especially for the price that is charged for a stay. read more

I went to Glasgow for a weekend... drove up there from Brighton and decided to stay at the Marriott as I have heard good stuff about Marriott Beds. The hotel was very nice, but sent bang in busy roads and junctions. Thank god for my TomTom! Anyway, the room was very nice, average size. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.... and to top it off, the buffet breakfast in the morning was just fab. Just what I needed from a relaxing weekend. The only downside is that I had to pay £3 per day to park my car. It should have been free in my opinion judging by what I paid for the room. read more

I stayed here for 2 weeks. This place lives up to normal Marriott standards, but definitely isn't anything special. My fav thing abt this hotel is the executive lounge. I saved a lot of money eating breakfast here and they also have free snacks, drinks and happy hour. A special thanks to the staff who service the lounge as they were super nice and accommodating. Taking into account I saw men in kilt here last time I stayed (some formal function in the banquet hall), I feel a 4 is appropriate. What I like the most: staff is superfriendly, gym is amazing and breakfast very good. The breakfast service people are phenomenal! I'm honestly not exactly sure where to rate this hotel. It has quite a bit going for it, and quite a bit dragging it down. First up, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. When we arrived early on Sunday morning there weren't any rooms available. The clerk apologized, checked our bags, and then gave us keys to the executive lounge so we could relax while we waited the short bit for a room to be available. Whenever we needed directions or a point in the right direction, the staff was spot on with their recommendations. The bar downstairs does a pretty solid job of whiskies and has a pretty knowledgeable staff. The food is pretty typical for a hotel restaurant. The wifi is fast, but it is expensive for someone who isn't gold or platinum on Marriott. They have a proper gym that's a bit of a hike from the main hotel area but fully stocked with a good amount of equipment; I never went wanting for a machine. The rooms and the establishment itself is in need of a bit of TLC. The carpets have seen better years, and the rooms are comfortable but not much else can be said about them. The work area isn't really comfortable for getting work done. The location itself isn't the best, but it is close to most of the downtown area. In all I think you could do far worse than here if staying in Glasgow. read more

Dear Glasgow Marriott, Your rooms are fine, the same as they are in every other Marriott in the world. Clean, decent, and the sheets aren't terrible. No hair conditioner, which always astounds me. The food you served me was absolutely disgusting but your wine list was decent, if overpriced. What really gets my goat, though, is how you called me at 2am to warn me that you'd be giving me a wake-up call at 6:30am. Knowing that my flight had been diverted and I'd been traveling for twenty-four hours, wouldn't you just let me sleep? Did a wake-up phone call really require a pre-wake-up call? Did it occur to you that due to jetlag, waking me up at 2am would be the death knell for my sleep and I'd be up for the rest of the night posting angry reviews on Yelp? Probably not. I was only here for a night. It looks pretty grim from the outside and the view from my room was of a motorway, but you don't really visit Glasgow for the scenery. No complaints about the room; it was neat, tidy and had all expected amenities (except conditioner, which seems to be a Marriott thing). The complimentary Irn Bru and Tunnocks was much appreciated. It's not the most central, but is within a reasonable walking distance to the bars and train station. read more

I'd actually give this hotel 3.5 stars. It would have been 4 if not quite so far away from Centre City because the prices are reflective of that area (check out JurysInn). We had to be in Glasgow for 4 days for work meetings. Wanted five days but all hotels were booked solid for weekend (come to find out there was a anime comicon going on, which was glorious to watch the fancy dressed). So I originally booked the two days they had available and since we are rewards members, hoped that would work some magic -- it did, we got all five nights. Check-in was a breeze, very friendly staff. Got the king bed as requested and up high as well. The bed was very comfortable and firm. The pillows were over stuffed, but you can asked for lesser. The gym located on -1 floor was fantastic! Nice and big and loads of modern equipment. And not just one elliptical but several, along with rowers, stairsteppers, so much more, weights - all sorts. And TVs. A real gym! There was even a trainer. And the room across is used for various aerobic classes. The first three days, our mini-fridge was locked up (we were wondering what was behind the board) and the last two they had unscrewed it?! Don't know why either happened, rather odd. The lounge was warm and comfortable - it thrilled me that they had a large variety of scotch! The food was good, albeit on the dear side! Room service was fast, efficient and good food. Although it stated there would be a hefty charge for wifi, we didn't experience it. It may be because of Marriott Rewards or it may be because we booked it online. But it was spotty at best and I had to go to the lobby to do most of my work because I have a mac and did not bring my adapter to plug in the ethernet. The distance to Centre City was not bad. Arrived at this hotel on the 23rd of May for a one night stay using part Avios, part cash. The room was a little dated but comfortable, the fact you have to pay £15 for WiFi is absolutely incredible. This is 2014! + Great gym and spa Nice friendly staff, particularly the chap at the breakfast restaurant. Food was a plus Walking distance to City Centre of Glasgow - Paying for WiFi A cash machine that charges £1.85! Dated rooms that need an overhaul No minibar in the room. Overal, this wasn't the best experience I've had at a Marriot, it felt like staying in a real budget hotel where everything is paid for. I am only reviewing this joint on the basis of the swimming pool where i take my little one for her swimming lessons. SO as far as this goes it's a pretty good wee pool that's well kept and nice and warm for the small ones. Plenty of space for the child carrying devices such as prams, horse and carts and the like, with nice enough staff who only scowl a little bit when you leave afore mentioned baby vehicle in an illegal parking zone. Nae real complaints here, although sometimes they leave a door open in the hall that means the corridor to the pool can be horrifically willie shrinkingly cold when your coming to and from the pool....brrrrrrrrrrr i say. read more

Large, centrally located, and very much a chain, so you get exactly what you'd expect. The executive suite is very handy if you're on business and want somewhere to work that isn't your room, and you can have a quiet breakfast there in the morning and/or free drinks and nibbles if the evening. Staff are very professional and friendly. One tiny quibble is that the wireless access here was a bit flakey on the couple of occasions I've visited, otherwise no issues. read more

This Marriott is phenomenal. First off let me say. I've lived in Glasgow for 13 years of my life. So I know the place. This hotel is a 8 min walk to the city center. The staff are more than helpful, it's a hive of activity with airline staff & tourists. It has a beautiful lobby with restaurant & Bar along with a Starbucks & gift shop. We were in the 12 floor (Top) across from the Executive Lounge. Wow what a place. If you really didn't want to go out for a drink or dinner this would suffice. Full bar, breakfast of champions, hot cold cheeses, pastries smoked fish fruit cereals selections of bread. Teas coffee. Dinner, all appetizers, pakoras, spring rolls, cheeses & other stuff too numerous to mention. Snacks sodas waters etc. we loved it. The hotel was clean, papers flowers everyday. Room cleaned every day. I forgot my European adapter, front desk loaned me one. WIFI everywhere for those of us that smoke, a covered hut outside. I loved every minute of the 10 days I stayed here. At first this seemed like a great place. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly, and the fancy executive suite I booked was on the 12th floor with no noise coming in from outside. And even though the internet access cost extra, I was willing to let that slide. Unfortunately, that is where the positives of this hotel end. The bed was by far the lumpiest bed I have ever slept on. Which would have been fine if I were paying for a motel by the hour, but this is a Marriott. I booked it because I expected better. Then after a restless night of sleeping on a pile of rocks, around 4 or 5 in the morning a door outside the room kept opening and closing that I assumed was the utility closet for the maid service, but turned out to be the door for the utility elevator, executive lounge serving breakfast, and the conference room next door. This went on pretty much all morning each day. And to top it all off, the shower temperature would continually change from extreme hot to extreme cold while showering. It is a good thing that the lady who checked me out didn't ask me how my stay was, as I might have actually responded. I'm giving it 2 stars to be nice, but the reality is it deserves 1 star and I can guarantee on my next visit to Glasgow I will be staying at one of the other hotels that run along Argyle St. read more

It's 3 star. If you're from the US, it's more in line with a Holiday Inn than a Marriott. But it's OK. Our TV didn't work. The flapper on the toilet was broken. The staff was nice, but like most Members of the service industry in the U.K., they don't seem well trained in their jobs. Overall 3 stars. read more

Don't believe that they have High-Speed internet. I wouldn't be able to write this review or even connect to Yelp! unless I was connected to my phone as a wireless access point. The beds are extremely uncomfortable, the carpet is old, the water pressure is all but a dribble, the ceilings are so low I brush my head against it in the shower, and the hallways all smell like Cullen Skink. Did I mention the "high-speed Internet" is slower than dial-up? As a Platinum member for Marriott I've seen good Marriotts and bad ones. Choose the Hilton before coming here. That said, I will say the staff has been tremendously courteous and friendly. But they can't fix the core problems with this place. read more

As someone who basically lives out of hotels, I find this hotel to be comfortable and the bed is cozy. The staff is very helpful and accommodating and the location is close to shops and downtown. Food service is very prompt and the ride to and from the airport isn't long at all. Also, the hotel gym is filled with all sorts of equipment and the prices at the restaurant are reasonable.This Marriott receives two thumbs up. read more

We stayed at the Glasgow Marriott on two recent occasions. The staff has been fantastic and it's walkable enough to shopping areas and sights...and for those reasons I'm still giving a third star despite a couple of big flaws. The biggest issue is that the facility is just quite old and the plumbing is super temperamental, as old plumbing is. Both rooms had toilets that didn't flush well. Actually, one we couldn't get to flush anything at all. And yes, we tried their trick of holding the handle just so....multiple times. We actually ended up using the downstairs lobby toilet on our way out it was such an issue. It was also tough for my tall husband to shower in the super short showers. The other major downside to the hotel is the restaurant. It was the worst meal of our trip. Just don't. The rest of the usual Marriott amenities were fine, including a nice happy hour and breakfast setup for rewards members. read more
