Up close and personal eyebrow demo by the amazing Gol!
    Gia A.

They have such an amazingly talented team of instructors. I'm so honored to have been part of the class and be in the presence of Gol as she shared her knowledge and wisdom of the industry and make up techniques. I attend the March 1st, 2015. class in San Francisco and the application process was easy, fast, and very informative. Lara was so patient with me when I had to reschedule the class. Everyone is so welcoming and you could truly feel their care for you to do well. Gol is so lively, magnificent, and spectacular beyond words! She really takes the time to make sure every student understood what they're doing, and she has such charisma that just permeates to everyone. Her efficiency and innovativeness with products is very educational and eye opening. I'm still in awe with how true, smart, and convenient her ways are. So fantastic! Taylor, one of their instructors amazed me on how she was able to swiftly cater to everyone's need! She was being called one student after another for questions and help during the hands on practice, including myself! and she was so informative, caring, and energetic. Definitely made my experience extra fun. I am so proud, honored and overwhelmed to have been surrounded by all these talented and wonderful people. I'll definitely come back and take more classes and hopefully be part of their team in the future. I can't wait to apply everything I've learned. Thank you Glamlab. You've been a life changing and a phenomenon experience.

Absolutely loveddddd this class! Gol and her whole team were outgoing and welcoming. Learned so much more than I expected to, and she really sets you up for the business aspect of it as well. Would highly recommend taking this makeup course, you'll be completely satisfied on the knowledge you gain, plus the hands on experience. Met so many talented students, was so worth it!

I appreciate you so much and value everything that I have learned from you. Thanks Beautiful Golriz! You're awesome!!

How did you guys pay for the class did y'all send the tuition through PayPal?

Paid online in advance. Thankfully I had proof of purchase because they had no record of me or my funding. They did have my assistant on their list who I also paid for & enrolled. It all worked out eventually, it was just a big inconvenience.

Has anyone actually been able to utilize the makeup 101 certification? And access to the makeup pro cards?

No, no luck whatsoever. When I signed up for the class I enrolled myself and an employee of mine. They had her information and payment but not mine. Which I thought was strange. I just rolled with it and paid. That all worked out but still wasn’t… Read more

Current student going through the program and may change rating based on ongoing experience…read more I started the program about 2-3 weeks ago, mainly because they recently began offering weekend classes, which worked well for me since I have a demanding full-time job. So far, unfortunately, my experience has not been great. I'm not sure if it's because the hybrid/online model is still new for them, but it really feels like they don't have the process fully organized yet. Most of the issues come down to lack of communication and unclear expectations for online students. Once I paid my deposit, I wasn't really guided through the next steps. I was briefly shown the portal we use for coursework (CIMA) and told to download WhatsApp because that's how we communicate with instructors. Beyond that, I pretty much had to figure things out on my own. I even had to personally ask questions in the group chat because I was confused, and it turned out several other students felt the same way. Eventually we found out there's an orientation every Monday, but nobody clearly explained that upfront. The virtual learning environment has also been frustrating. During online sessions, chats are muted and virtual students can't really ask questions because the instructors are focused on the in-person class. That honestly makes no sense to me considering online students are paying the same tuition as in-person students. It feels like the virtual students are an afterthought. Even submitting homework has been confusing. We use Dropbox, but I was basically just told to "download Dropbox" and had to dig through old chat messages to find the actual submission links and instructions. At this point, I honestly feel unclear every step of the way. I spend more time trying to figure out logistics, apps, links, and expectations than actually focusing on learning. The frustrating part is that these seem like very simple organizational issues that could easily be improved with clearer communication and better onboarding for online students. I'm still early in the program, so I hope things improve over time, and I'm open to updating my review if my experience changes.

When I arrived, I was told I had to sign in and pay for the service before it was even done. I asked why, since the last time I came I was able to pay after the service was completed. The staff member said it was "the rules," so I mentioned that she was actually the one who helped me during my previous visit and allowed me to pay afterward. She laughed and said she couldn't do that this time because the manager would get mad at her. Because of that, I decided to decline the service and leave. It felt strange and inconvenient to be required to pay upfront, especially when that wasn't the case during my previous visit. On top of that, during my last appointment the results weren't great--my left eyelash ended up very curly while the right side was still mostly straight. There are plenty of other places to go for a lash lift and similar services, so unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this place based on my experiences.

Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute - Charlotte ‍…read more I have been a big fan of Aveda schools since my days in San Francisco. I used to go to the school on Kearny and Bush in the Financial District, and I absolutely loved it. So when I relocated to Charlotte, it was an easy transition to discover there was an Aveda school here as well--same trusted brand, same great products, and the same strong training philosophy, just organized a little differently. In San Francisco, students were grouped by skill level. The graduating students--called the "gammas"--were the rock stars of the school. They had the most confidence, the most experience, and could complete services efficiently. They worked on the main floor at street level, almost like a little jewel box where passersby could watch them practice their craft. It made the whole experience feel special. One thing I'll never forget from San Francisco was the shampoo experience. You would sit in the chair, it would gently tilt back, and your head would be perfectly cradled in the bowl. The hair wash was so relaxing and luxurious that I used to joke I'd install a shampoo bowl in my own bathroom someday. There's something very comforting about having your hair washed--it's simple, but it feels wonderful. Now, back to Charlotte. The setup here is different. All haircuts are priced the same--currently about $22--regardless of the student's level. There are add-ons available, but one thing to plan for is time. You should expect to be there for at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours, especially for hair services. What I truly appreciate is the level of supervision. Instructors are everywhere. They check the consultation, the cut, and the final result before you leave. Because of that structure, you're very unlikely to walk out with a bad haircut. In more than 20 years of visiting Aveda schools, I've only had two less-than-ideal experiences, which is a pretty strong track record. I've also had facials here, and they were excellent. The experience includes thoughtful touches like a relaxing foot wash, shoulder massage, steam, extractions, and a thorough skin analysis. It feels professional and surprisingly luxurious for the price. I remember paying around $45 for a longer facial, which is incredibly affordable compared to traditional spas. A few practical tips: * Parking is easy--there's a lot and a garage behind the building * Scheduling multiple services (like a haircut and facial) can be a little tricky, so patience helps * Bring cash for gratuities, although some students accept digital payment options Most importantly, remember that this is a teaching environment. These students are learning, building confidence, and preparing for careers in the industry. If you're expecting a fast, high-end salon experience with every bell and whistle, you may want to visit a traditional salon instead. But if you value affordability, professionalism, and supporting students as they grow, this is a wonderful option. I genuinely love this place. It has become one of my go-to spots in Charlotte, and finding little creature comforts like this has helped the city feel more like home. Treat yourself. Get the haircut. Book the facial. Enjoy the day. I recommend it.
