A favorite of mine for over 30 years, so happy to see Gladstones is open and serving delicious seafood as always. My most recent visit began with a joyful greeting from the hostess who found me a table with a perfect view of the Pacific and Malibu beach. Ordered their world famous chowder in a bread bowl and was as content as could be. Chowder was delicious as always and the atmosphere is unmatched. Highly recommend you return to Gladstones on PCH as quickly as possible! Note that the interior is currently being remodeled, but there are plenty of tables on the deck, which is really where you want to be. Outdoor bar is also open!

So happy Gladstones is back open! I had such a phenomenal experience here, the ocean views were absolutely stunning. Right now, only the patio is open and they're working with a limited menu since they're still renovating and recovering from the tragic fires, but it's heartwarming to see this iconic spot healing and the community showing up to support them. Our server was super friendly and attentive, we were never left waiting. We started off with their Pina Coladas, which were so refreshing and honestly tasted like a smoothie (in the best way). The calamari was AMAZING-- I couldn't stop eating it even though I was trying to save room for my entree I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich for my entree which was good, I wouldn't say it was anything special but was totally worth it with the breathtaking ocean views. Such a great place to come for a sunset dinner. I'm so happy to see this beloved restaurant standing strong and thriving again!

Good service, tasty food and a fantastic view of the ocean. Outside seating only for now due to indoor remodeling. Plenty of umbrellas.

Our server, Angel, he was friendly and did great. Manila clams and linguine--good! Shrimp Scampi also good! We had a quiet beautiful dinner after sunset. Parking was easy for $4-5

I came to Gladstone's in 1996-1997 on a family vacation and had such fond memories. When I moved back to CA, returning there was at the top of my list. They say you should never meet your heroes and I kind of wish I had stuck with the memory. The food was not good, there was bird poop everywhere, and everything looks old and rusty. There was about 10-15 people in the whole place, felt like a ghost town. I did ask for my leftovers to be turned into a mermaid which was the highlight of the visit. What happened to this place? It needs some love. With this location, I get that you don't need to try but... maybe try anyways?

The chocolate strawberry cake was from Paris baguettes. It was delicious and the birthday girl enjoyed it tremendously.

We love Gladstones, we had a birthday girl celebration. The food was great, and it was a perfect day for the beach.

Gladstone's on PCH is all about the view, waves, sunshine, and that classic SoCal vibe. The seafood's fresh and the portions don't mess around. Loved the warm Sourdough, crispy fish tacos, golden fish and chips, and green beans that were so good I almost forgot they were vegetables. Friendly staff and plenty of parking seal the deal.

8 of us went late afternoon to celebrate a couple of birthdays and put together a nice table with 3 on each side and one on each end which made for a nice ocean view for all but the man who's back was to the ocean. Our server, Jessica, was 5-star all the way even though she appeared to have lots and lots of tables to take care of. She has a great personality with lots of humor and made everyone laugh and was very helpful as almost everyone added or subtracted something from their menu order. Literally each couple in our group ordered fish & chips with the ladies ordering salads and it's safe to say everyone enjoyed their food. The only thing I barely ate half of were the French Fries, which were okay but just too much as I finished the chips. We also got a free birthday muffin that we all had a piece of. This is the second time we've been their since it reopened and while their fixing the inside due to the fires, the outside just beautiful with a nice view of the ocean with easy parking.

Beautiful beachfront lunch at Gladstones off PCH! Clams, lobster roll w/fries, cup of clam chowder, sourdough and white wine and a mai tai! Everything was great except clam broth was too salty so sent that back. Mai Tai was strong, which we liked! U appreciated he generous pour in my pinot grigio (slurp). Parking is $9 Thank you to our server Boris....we will be back. The host was very nice too.

This has to be one of the better views in all of LA. Decent food with a price point that is high, but not out of reach which is surprising considering the location. Peaceful and friendly, it feels welcoming to all. Nice to have a local spot without snobbery or a tourist trap atmosphere. As a mom I especially appreciated the kids being able to play in the sand right below while I wrapped things up. Please check out the touching mural that reminds us of what we lost in the fires. It is nice to have a spot that survived the devastation.

All I can say is... ENJOY IT WHILE IT'S HERE. (Actually I stole that quote from Heidi, my server!) I've been coming to Gladstone's since well before I was a preteen back in the 80's and I won't say how old I am now! Gladstone's has taken me through my teenage years, to my young adolescence and adulthood, to when I got engaged, married and brought my own kids here. Many birthdays and special occasions were had here that will forever be part of my sweetest memories. It's been through several ownerships and management through the years and I really hope it continues to remain intact as one of the few "historical landmarks" and quintessential places to visit in LA. Feeling warmly nostalgic, I decided to drop by on a whim after dropping my daughter off nearby at the Getty Villa on a Saturday morning. The place was pretty empty, but it started filling up soon after. Heidi was my server and she's been here for 15 years so she can relate to my deep connection to Gladstone's. It was nice to share some memories with her as well as get some insight about some of its history that I didn't know already. I started off with their delicious and unique Bloody Mary loaded with bacon, celery and pickled condiments followed by their infamous and delicious clam chowder in a bread bowl. How can I not?! It never fails. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in a prime spot outdoors, soaking in the warm sun while sipping my Bloody Mary and indulging in my chowder. Even though it was early January, it felt like a typical summers day and while looking for dolphins, I was instead treated with a regatta sailing right in front of me. It really made for a relaxing and enjoyable day. Typically what you usually get when you're at Gladstone's. This place has HISTORY and if you want to experience a special part of LA, you need to come here. Bring friends from out of town, drop by on a weekend or just come spontaneously like I did. The scenery cannot be beat. The food is good-definitely get the clam chowder!- and if you're lucky to have Heidi wait on you, consider yourself lucky!

side salad, Brioche Lobster Roll (split for two), Fish and Chips

Great service by Alejandro. Parking was easy and only $10 (you can stay and hang on the beach b4 or after) Great lobster roll, fish n chips and salad. Prices were reasonable given the location. Great views of dolphins, planes taking off from LAX. Would definitely go again. We went post Getty Villa.

    How long is the wait?

I'm certain this depends on when you arrive, but I've been there twice and both times I was seated immediately.

Did they stop making their own sourdough loaf?

I'm not sure if their sourdough bread is still made in-house; however, it is still listed on their menu.

Do they still have their new happy hour?

Yes! Monday-Frisday 4pm-6pm Here is an article with details… Read more

Are they still open or did they close? Reports are conflicting.

While I do not know Gladstone's hours, I do know that they are open because a friend went there with a large group from out of town (not knowing about the difficulties in the past), and they were welcomed and served. Good luck with your own visit,… Read more

Are peanuts still on the floor in the restaurant? My child has a severe food allergy and because of it we have not been able to dine here for many years. Tried to call but was not given the opportunity to speak with someone before it hung up.

Peanuts gone but the good food & service gone too. Divert, divert. It will be torn down soon I hear...

    Is there a happy hour?

Every place has a HH, theirs surely too busy & unhealthy cheap stuff & overcrowded with poor service. Move on...

    Is there blackened fish?

Yes! The catch of the day can come grilled, blackened or panko crusted!

Does Gladstones require Covid-19 vaccine for dining?

They did when I was there

Do they take reservations? If so, what platform?

No reservations at this time Sept 2023.

Does the lobster roll at Gladstones malibu have onion in it?

    Request how you want it!

Are you open Thanksgiving day? If so, how can I make a reservations? I tried calling but never got to an option to speak with anyone nor leave a message. Thank you.

    Nope

    Is the Parking validated?

No validation unfortunately, I believe parking is around $12-20, and they offer both self parking or valet.

I'm curious,,,,, has actor Bradley Cooper, Sam Elliott, and/or Lady Gaga ever visited Gladstone's?

Great question! I saw the 3 of them there several weeks ago. They all pulled up in Sam's beat up old pickup. Bradley and Gaga were riding in the back of the truck...and they looked pretty hammered.

Do they allow dogs on their outdoor patio?

Yes dogs should be fine especially on the outdoor patio.

Is the lunch menu served on Saturdays or just the brunch menu?

According to the website both. Brunch is Saturday-Sunday from 10am-2pm and Lunch is 11am-4pm on both days.

    Is it dog friendly?

Yes it is. I would say especially outside on the patio.

    Is it kids friendly?

Yes I would say so ! We sat in the patio - which has gorgeous views - right in the water .. casual and there were families

    How much is parking?

It's free if you're going into the restaurant because they validate you might want to give the guy a buck or two that's at the gate when you leave but it's not mandatory.

Any vegan items here besides the bread?

You probably can get a salad, but don't expect anything of high standard! I don't think they really "know" what vegan is, or have met anyone who eats "vegan"......

    Is there a happy hour?

Mon-Fri 3 PM - 7PM $3 Select Drafts & Bottles; $5 - $6 Specialty Cocktails; Special Appetizer Menu. Not on Holiday's or to be combined with any other offer. They ask that you tip at regular price because "they did the same work' ~Their words 😉

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

There are a lot of new options and unfortunately no more chicken katsu. After my previous review, the owner actually reached out and offered to have me come back and try the food again, which I genuinely appreciated. I never took them up on the free food offer because I prefer to keep reviews honest, but the gesture still stood out to me. This time I ordered the 2-item combo with the honey sesame chicken karaage and kalua pork. The karaage was easily my favorite part of the meal. It was crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I asked for all the sauces on the side and the green sauce paired really well with it. The kalua pork was tender, but a little sweeter than I personally prefer for traditional kalua pork, so I'd probably try a different protein next time instead. I also grabbed a spam musubi, but the portions were so generous that I didn't even get around to eating it until I got home later. While I still miss the old chicken katsu, I get that menus evolve, and overall this visit was a much better experience than my previous one.
