Went to Gladstone DMV this morning had the most pleasant experience there. The young woman that waited on us was a complete gem! Had to call this afternoon and the man that answered the phone just said his name. I asked if I had reached the DMV and his surly answer yes was less than welcoming. Started to ask him a question and was hung up on! Recalled and got his voice mail. REALLY.....there are some people that shouldn't be dealing with the public. If this man hates his job so much, which it seemed he did, then a new job should be his top priority, hand the phone off to someone who wants to do the job and leave. What really is depressing, is how long has this guy been there, has his attitude always been so crappy? If so, why hasn't he been let go? How many people has he interacted with and given the DMV a really bad rep? read more

They fast here (literally less than 5 min wait today) but they compromise "customer service". The staff looks unhappy and they basically have that "let's just get this over with..." expression across the board. No smiles or friendly greetings here. read more

Necessary evil comes in Grey with a Take a Ticket system and plastic seats. A really quick location if you arrive at the right time.. After having my wallet stolen, it took 3 visits to the DMV to get my paperwork in order. On visit #3, I arrived there 20 minutes before 8 am., ending up 3rd in line. It was snowing and so I left guard duty to the Retired squad, which made sure the doors would open promptly. While Mr. DMV guy reviewed my 3 pieces of required things and typing like crazy , I wanted to take a pic of my #3 ticket. It would never be that low of a number ever again and I was sensing 3 was my magic number. Faster than my auto focus, Mr. DMV rips #3 ticket from my grasp. In a stern voice commonly used for bad puppies, he said, "Pictures are not allowed at the DMV and you are suppose to turn your ticket over to me. No pictures." Thinking to myself, " What. The. Hell?" Then he asked me to wait over in the line to get a new picture taken. Here's where irony makes me laugh. Mr. DMV didn't join in. Stars for fast moving lines, minus stars not explaining something simple to prevent 3 trips, plus stars for not asking to update my weight, minus stars for bad puppy scolding. read more

WORST experience here... I had to take my driver's class c license testing, and the instructor was rude! Rude, rude, rude... these words describe most of the employees here. What's worst? This was only around noon-no where close to closing time when employees start getting tired. Never coming back here again. PLEASE GO TO SOME OTHER DMV... anywhere but here :( read more

The man that helped me get set up for the drivers test was so genuine. Never have I ever experienced an amazing experience at the DMV. I went in to get plates for my car. I'm from California and they were expiring. I got there about two hours after they opened thinking there goes my whole day but I was in and out in 30 minutes. I even had new plates in my hands to put on my car. The people were nice enough not overly friendly. Parking was easy. I went in about a week ago and am still shocked that business was taken care of in 30 min. I had to look around to make sure I was truly at the dmv. read more

This review is for a certain employee that has been an employee at Gladstone DMV for many years. I didn't know her name until today however. I've been to this location many times over the last 20 years and she has helped me many times over the years. She is friendly and knowledgeable (unlike some others there). Her name is Myra and if possible, go to her for your transactions here. This DMV rating overall would be maybe 3 stars on a good day. I had a not so pleasant transaction here last month and the employee that helped me then was not friendly at all and didn't seem to know what she was doing. That's another review to do! read more

This was the DMV I decided to take my driving test at back in December, now I didn't have many options as all other DMV's that were closer to me were packed all the way into the next year! I jumped at the opportunity to take that dreaded driving test in such a small town. Now the dmv is pretty small, so parking wasn't the best, but since I left my classes early I was able to find a spot and get help at the desk right away. The man at the desk was a bit of a comedian and he really calmed my nerves, and helped with any confusion. I didn't have to wait much time for my driving instructor to show up and run me through everything, she was calm and very polite. The route she brought me on wasn't too difficult as I had practiced a bit in the area ahead of time. The roads were still a bit odd to me, a few four way intersections with no stop signs and no visibility, a few school buses out, and just a blend of small neighborhood streets, a highway, and some rural roads. In all I passed my first try, had great interactions with everyone, and was done with it all fairly quickly. read more

When you think of the DMV, you think of... well, everything bad - waiting, rudeness, etc. I didn't have that experience here! I'm used to the DMVs in Southern California that are gigantic, and everyone is BLEH... and when I walked into this location, I couldn't believe how small it was and how nice everyone was. I needed to update my license, and when you walk in, you get a number from a machine by pressing a button. I didn't wait too long, although my number did seem far away. The guy at the counter was nice. He was very helpful, but I think it helps if you go prepared like I did. I was surprised I had to take a written test, and I failed the first time. But... they are nice, allow you to take it as soon as the next day, and give you an express pass on your return visit. They, also, give you a paper telling you the ones you misses, so you can study more. If I ever have more DMV needs, I'll definitely be visiting this location. Oh, and I passed on my second attempt! After researching all I needed and the cost I ended up being 135 dollors off. They also would not except my checks so I had to use there pos ATM, which has a limit of 200, So it toom 2 transactions with Fees! I visited the Gladstone DMV on 10/17/19 to renew my driver's license. I needed an eye test, photo, and veteran designation. The place was about 2/3 full, and there were about 25 people ahead of me. The whole process took about 50 minutes which also included a 10 minute earthquake drill. Much faster than I expected. The employees were very courteous and efficient. read more

This could have easily been a one star if I were only rating the information desk..... I have had DMV experiences that were far worse than root canal so I was not particularly looking forward to today's visit..... Experience has taught me to always arrive early to avoid waiting for hours and today I was 8th in line and would have sailed through had I not made the epic mistake of interacting with the information clerk Charlotte who nearly ruined my day. ( if you see a dark haired woman with shoulder length hair at the information desk who exudes nastiness and clearly has not smiled in years bypass the desk!) I was registering a car from out of state and she told me I would need to go to DEQ before I could register the car. Looking behind me the lobby was nearly full of people waiting in line and I knew I did want to be one of them. I told her I had already waited in line and was not interested in starting over. When my number was called I went to the window and spoke with the kindest gentleman who actually helped me while Ms. nasty yelled across the lobby " they won't go to DMV first" when we explained to him that we had no problem going to DEQ first we just wanted to avoid waiting through the line again. He reviewed our documents and gave us a pass to return without having to start over again. We went to DEQ and returned to DMV and with the pass we had been issued went directly to the counter while a still cranky Charlotte glared at us and were done in minutes. Hubby had a great experience a few months prior. The clerk who assisted him had him laughing till he had tears in his eyes. Most clerks at this office have a clear understanding of the concept " customer service" one bad apple does not spoil the bunch. read more

My friend got an appointment after 1 1/2 months to take her driver's test (re-test, she lost her license after a DUI, she's 50 & been driving her whole adult life.) I offered my car. I didn't know I had a brake light out, rt. side. (I also had a rear brake lite in the back window.) Because of a $1.75 light, she was denied a test drive. Now it's gonna be another 1 1/2 months before she can take another test. The immigrant that was gonna give the test was VERY rude, could hardly speak English, & thought he had powers beyond all that was holy! A JERK!! Gladstone DMV has the RUDIST staff I've ever encountered in my life, & I'm nearly 70 yr. old! Too bad our government thinks they are above the rest of us. read more

This has to be the most inefficient and lazy government office I've ever seen. The workers were moving in slow motion, ignoring the dozens of people waiting to get help, and doing their best to avoid eye contact with the people. One guy - I'll call him Stone Face - was of particular interest. He helped perhaps four people within 45 minutes. He'd help, then walk away into a room. Emerge 5 minutes later, walk down the hall into another room and disappear. he came out 5 minutes later, walked the length of the room, then back into that same rom for 5 more minutes. Finally, he emerged, went to his station, helped one person, then walked away again. Others worked slowly, sometimes in groups of two or three when one person was all that was needed. Some stood around talking to each other. I watched two people discussing traffic with each other while customers stood and waited at their stations. One woman came out and yelled numbers, then went to her window and had a long conversation with a good looking guy at her station. It was like there was a glass wall between the waiting area and the workers. I've never seen a more inefficient and indifferent group of people. Walking in there is every person for themselves. I've been to other DMV's and the experience is very different. Someone greets you, discusses your issue, give you the necessary forms, and makes sure you have the right documents before you enter. People are at their stations and numbers fly quickly. People work hard. At this place, watching the clock is the name of the game. read more

Gladstone DMV redux. If you think the State of Oregon's foster care system is wretched, the DMV is right up there on the horror scale except there are no kids' lives at stake. In any case, I thought my last trip to DMV was a shatshow, but this one eclipsed it by a long shot. Got there at 8 am and at 9 still 70 ppl in front of me. At 10a I was still in line. So I left. Came back at 4p because DMV online "Live" said it wasn't very busy. HA! It was ridiculously busy (100 numbers deep in front of me again and they close at 5). But then a very nice woman explained to me that this is the best time to come because while they do lock the door at 5, they have to stay until everyone inside is cleared. I noticed the clerks moved a lot quicker after 4p. Earlier in the day, they were taking their old sweet time with paperwork and breaks, and chitchatting with other staff. I have made a commitment to finally leave this state permanently before my DL needs renewed. In anycase, go at 4:50 and not a second earlier. Make those union workers earn their state wages and PERS benefits. Ultimately, you're already paying for it. read more

As if anyone could be a "fan" of a DMV. Since they closed the DMV at Clackamas Promenade this is the DMV of choice now. Got there about 11:15 and the line was already out the door and never let up. Just like Baskin Robbins in the summer, take a number....so there is a pre-screener guy who was really nice and made sure I went to the right window, had the right things I needed so I didn't wait anymore than necessary.. He gave me three chances to pass the eye exam and helped me figure out how to order my birth certificate that I needed. Then he sent me to the express lane to get my license extended until I get could everything in order. The express lane guy was nice too and very understanding and helpful. Holy Speeding Ticket Batman! Am I in a government agency?! Yes. I am. Know how I could tell? It was kind of grungy looking, like a bar I used to hang out at in college...well..if I had to choose a nice clean up to date office or nice people...well that is a no brainer..even for me! read more

The "supervisor" here is one of the most rude people I have ever encountered. Especially when she has the nerve to laugh and smile when I cam to her with a problem. I was in the process of getting new tags which I have done before and she legitimately was no help wouldn't even give me a number to seat me. Was very condescending towards me just for being a younger person. There was no professionalism to how she represented the DMV and herself. No wonder the DMV gets such a bad rep, when you have people working there like this that are rude, unhelpful, and condescending. Seriously, what happened to customer service? I've gone here for years living in the area and I can honestly say I will drive the extra distance to make sure I never deal with that rude woman again. read more

Worst experience ever! Walked in and got my number which was 256 and they were on 211 (knowing I was going to have to wait, considering the time of day I went it) sat down for about 30 minutes to wait and a lady walks in and sits down next to me, we causally have small talk about how busy it is. Which once again was expected. Her number was 265, she walks out to her car and comes back in about 10 min later and jumps into line. The lady calls her over and does not even check her number. She takes care of business and leaves. I was in shock, there were so many people wait, me being one on them and anyone can just jump into line and not get there number checked and walk right out. I then saw her do this so I got into line, they were calling up the 240s and I got to the front of the line and people told me I was cutting. When another women could cause walk in and do this but I could because I drew more attention than she did. I the called called up and the guy asks me for my number and tells me to sit down. When people start saying that I cut. Well tell me how a woman can walk in and cut tons of people and not get told to sit down. This place it so unorganized, if your going to "follow the rules" then EVERYONE needs to follow the rules. I will never go back to the dmv, instead I will drive out of my way to give my money to a different dmv. Terrible experience! read more

If I had to sit and listen to people whine everyday about how their issue is "Different" just to get the same result if they had paid attention to the forms and manuals that are very available in the main lobby, then I would look pissed too. Per "Jo Jo" If they had to use public transit but they are at the DMV? interesting. "If they didn't speak very good English"? well sorry to say this but they are now in America, they need to learn the language. The lines are held up by the "Customers" who try to explain why they have broken the law 10 times hoping it will come out different and the clerk will just allow their issue to shut them up. When people can learn to obey laws, and follow rules, and quit staring into their cell phones and pay attention, then maybe you wont have such an issue. I however applaud the people that work there. I would want to throat punch each person who didn't pay attention to the signs/rules/etc. Maybe you should spend more time in your chosen Porta-Potty. read more
