Hmm the best way to describe GK Houses is:
Good with potential to be AWESOME, Warm on the way to becoming HOT!
Here is my experience -
When I first relocated to Birmingham, I was seeking a rental, and GK houses was all over the rentals I wanted to view. Just like any other job working individual, the hours of most home showings were when I was working. The one Saturday I did have a chance to view a home, the showing agent female was very rude, short, and just out right none personable. I really felt like I was wasting her time. So I moved on to other rental companies very quickly. A year passed and I was in the market again for a home, and yet again GK Houses was all over the homes I wanted to potentially rent. However this time, a much better option was given, I could view the homes with an automated code given over the phone for $1.00. This option was much better, because I could view as many as I wanted, on my own time, and the best of all it was without the unpleasant showing agent.
Well needless to say, viewing the homes on my own time and schedule worked much better and allowed me to really shop for a home that I would be living in for the next year. I am kind of an old school person when it comes to wanting to speak with a customer service representative for questions regarding concerns. Was kind of surprised that a live person was not available. However moving into the digital, tech age, I understand emailing all communication. Not a HUGE fan, however it was not that bad, just took getting use to. The times that I have been in contact, they typically reply within 24-48 business hours.
So application process was well, and the deposit and 1st month's rent process went well also. However when it came time for me to move in the home was not ready. There was a major leak and the AC was not working. The day i was scheduled to pick up my keys, I received a phone call. WOW i was shocked because that was so out of character for GK Houses, I didnt know what to think. As the call went on, they informed me of maintenance issues and I would need to delay my move in date. Needless to say, it was the end of the month, and I had to be out of my old place, and could not delay moving in. Thankfully, I was going out of town for awhile at the beginning of the month, which allowed them more time to make repairs. After open communication, the repairs were handled before I returned.
Upon my return, there were still a few minor maintenance issues that needed to be addressed. I sent the email and received a follow up email the next day. The maintenance calls have been attended to pretty well so far.
With all that said, GK Houses has to grow on you. There were some other billing issues however, quickly resolved and attention was given right away. Overall they won my business and I would recommend to other and rent again if needed in the future.
Thanks Gray Hall and Mark Byers for your assistance throughout the rental and maintenance repair process. read more
