I arrived at Gatwick Airport at dinner time and thought I would try Giraffe. It is a cute restaurant on the second floor of the main terminal entryway among a few other restaurants and shops. The hostess and my server were both very friendly and kind, especially given my jetlag-fogged brain. I had to laugh at myself that we were all speaking English, but with the hostess' heavy Scottish accent and the server's Irish one, I actually had trouble understanding at first until I re-tuned my ears! Haha. I ordered the Japanese Katsu Curry Chicken bowl. The chicken and other ingredients were tossed in the wok along with noodles and the noodles had a pleasant almost "grilled" like taste. It was very tasty (not spicy at all) and a perfect-sized portion to satisfy my hunger before I crashed for the evening. read more

It's always hard to leave London for me, especially when I have to be at Gatwick earlier in the morning and am staying in Mayfair! Arriving to Gatwick recently to take my flight back, the wife and i decided to grab breakfast somewhere in the airport before heading back to Los Angeles. I happened to see a few restaurants out of the corner of my eye just before security and glad we walked into Giraffe. It's hard to miss. Very colorful and bright. We were so hungry that they could have served stale bread and old pot roast and we would have probably chosen the restaurant. Fortunately, the menu was fairly expansive and included my fave breakfast food: pancakes. We were served our tea pretty quickly which we needed as we probably looked like a couple of zombies. I ordered the Strawberry pancakes. The wife took the recommendation of the server for the hash. Apparently not spicy according to the server. Apparently spicy according to the wife. Service was faster than two shakes of a lamb's tail. It gave us time to really relax after we ate before heading to security. For airport food, it was pretty good. There's never a lot of hope for airport food but this place is at least passable. It looks like an amusement park, lots of weird, wild colors and decoration. I had a pulled pork burger with slaw. Never expected it would actually come on top of a beef burger too. The burger was HUGE and I had to dismantle it to make it edible. It was OK in taste and quality. Had a pint to drink with it. Came here for lunch while waiting for my connecting flight. Since I was in London I decided to get the fish and chips because why not? Unfortunately the fish and chips weren't as good as I thought they'll be. The fish had no flavor and was drenched in oil. I didn't finish my lunch. The cider however was amazing. It was a strawberry like cider which was a crisp cider; not sweet at all. It was tasty and refreshing. The waiter took forever to bring us our check which kinda sucked. read more

Whenever I arrive in England after a long overnight transatlantic flight, a full English breakfast is always my first craving!! My last trip I discovered 'Giraffe'; it's in the South Terminal, up a few stairs right after you come through the arrival doors into the terminal. Being about 7am I was one of only two customers but the staff were friendly and my food quickly served. Their full breakfast was great and just what I was craving. Egg, bacon, sausages, beans, tomato and potatoes was piled onto my plate with some toast and coffee to compliment it. HP Brown sauce always makes it better and the only thing missing was some mushrooms!!! This will definitely be new spot for breakfast whenever making this trip! read more

While probably the best pre-security dining option I saw, it was most definitely not the best food in London. I think I'm usually suspicious of "world dining" places, as that usually means they do a lot of things mediocrely. That was the case here. The best dish we got was probably the salad, but honestly it's hard to mess up a dish in which the only cooked thing is chicken... The best part of the meal was actually our waiter. Horrendous service, asked for some sauces, was told it was coming, never got them, my partner asked again as we were waiting a while. When a staff member pat him on the back and said he works the other side. We were also blamed for ordering on the app as the reason our food took so long. Probably one of the best options I've seen for airport dining. The menu has a variety of internationally-inspired cuisines, full bar, pretty dining room, and I love giraffes (although I was disappointed to not find any actual giraffe art). There were outlets at almost every booth to charge phones, and space for luggage. We ordered the Vietnamese-style salmon soup, the Malaysian chicken curry (the better dish, in my opinion) and our favorite favorite was the appetizer, grilled halloumi cheese skewers topped with a green pea salad. I wish I had ordered a few of those as a main dish! Everything was great, and although my salmon dish was a little boring for what I was in the mood for, we really enjoyed everything. Service was incredibly slow and almost nonexistent. We had to wander around the restaurant looking for servers to ask for our check and then to pay the bill, and servers rarely checked on us. Still, because this is a star for an airport restaurant and the food/atmosphere was good, I'm going with 4 stars. read more

We came here after arriving in Gatwick and wanting a quick meal. Although they post "food served within 10 min" this is not the case. It is still quick, but not that quick. We ordered just a hamburger and salad and it took around 20 min to be served. Both the hamburger and the chicken on the salad were way overcooked and did not have good flavor at all. While the prices weren't bad and the service was okay, I wouldn't return unless I needed to. It was okay for airport food though. read more

Located in the south terminal of Gatwick airport, Giraffe was the first place we dined in London after a pretty unbearable 10 hour flight. The warm food was so welcoming and our tummies agreed. Hubby ordered the Bowl for the Soul, essentially a rice bowl with veggies, chicken and topped with a fried egg. I had the "Croque Giraffe" the former which I didn't know how to pronounce, but it was what the English call a cheese toastie (grilled cheese sandwich) with chorizo and ham and other things to kick up the flavor and it worked (trust me, I had other ham toasties while on our trip and they were NOT good). We also had one of their fruit smoothies, you could tell it was mostly fruit. A great way to start our England trip. read more

Had 11 hours to kill in the airport so needless to say we've had a long morning. Anyways, this place looked cute so we decided to give it a try. It's very bright and colourful, has lots of seating, and is very spacious. As for service, we were seated right away, our waiter was very friendly and informative of the menu, and the wait for our food was short--around 10 minutes. To eat I got the vegetarian spaghetti which I enjoyed. I really liked the flavour and texture of the tomato sauce--it was rich and had little slices of onion in it cooked to perfection. My niece had the BBQ chicken quesadilla which she thought was average, she's definitely had better. She thought the taste of the BBQ was too overpowering, but again, it's just a personal preference. To drink I got the Cuban mojito which was delicious--definitely one of the better mojitos I've had while in London. My niece got the Giddy Giraffe but added a shot of Malibu to it which she said was very delicious. Overall, the service and food was good and the dining atmosphere was so cheerful and bright that I'd eat here again if I were ever in Gatwick airport again. read more

The staff here are wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about them but they really looked after me tonight as I dined solo at the airport. Sure they asked the usual "how is your meal?" questions, but they did it in a way that made me feel like they genuinely cared. A smile and a glint in the eye perhaps. The food was pretty much what I expect from Giraffe restaurants. It tastes nice but doesn't bring my palette to life. The Mexican chicken burger with skin on fries was just over a tenner. Possibly a bit on the pricey side of burger territory but fine for an airport. It had a little bit of kick from the chipotle but was really quite mild. The banana waffle split looks a bit brown and messy but it was sweet and delicious. The caramelised baked banana worked perfectly with the waffle and chocolate sauce. The fact courses are served within 15 minutes is also pretty impressive. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant, mostly due to the bright mural on the wall and light installation in the middle of the room. I liked the Latin music that played. It was at a volume where others could talk at a normal non-deafening level. So I only gave it 4 stars because giraffe chains will never sit up in the 5s for me, but the staff here are top notch and they get 5+ stars with cherries on top. read more

This place has a good selection of food and is fairly well situated in the Gatwick Airport (upstairs near to the train station - not necessary to go through security). The food is quite bland, however. I had the flaffel sandwich and the veggie salad. The dressing on the salad was super dull - it might as well not have been on there. And the falaffel was tasty, but there wasn't much of it on the bun. The chicken club looked a lot better. The sweet potato fries were decent, but seemed a little under-cooked. The food prices are quite reasonable as well, which is part of the reason that it got 3 stars instead of 2. Overall, I'd probably go there again, but might choose something else. The burgers looked pretty good too. So maybe this was a case of not ordering the right things. I don't suggest either of the items that I had - hopefully that will save you. read more

After checking in for my 8am flight I headed over to Giraffe for some breakfast. The restaurant was very busy and I had to wait a few minutes for my table but this was fine. The breakfast menu here is fairly standard with options such as full English and scrambled eggs, as well as some international favourites including Huevos Rancheros (Mexican Breakfast). I went for the standard English breakfast priced at £7.95 (as opposed to the extra large version). When my meal came I was a little disappointed by the size (just one sausage, one slice of bacon, one egg and some beans). However, it was good quality and I still enjoyed it. I also ordered an Americano. Unfortunately it was so awful that couldn't drink it and had to stick to lemon water. The overall atmosphere in the restaurant was good. Hands down the best airport food I've had anywhere. It was super convenient as I was staying at the Courtyard at Gatwick Airport and I had a flight the next day. A quick 15 minute walk and I was there. It was so good the first time for dinner that I went before my flight the next day. My experience for dinner was great. I asked for a recommendation between three dishes and was told the nachos were the best. I was skeptical of having airport nachos, but went with them anyway. These were some of the best nachos I've ever had. Perfectly salted and seasoned chips, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and chicken that was actually seasoned. So many times nacho chicken isn't seasoned and it adds nothing to the dish. This time the chicken had a fabulous seasoning. Chip to topping ratio was near perfect, and the chips held up well throughout the meal. My waiter was very pleasant and efficient. I was in and out in probably half an hour or so. When I returned the next day, the service was awful. They were switching shifts and totally forgot about me. That moved Giraffe from 5 to 4 stars. Otherwise, this was a great surprise. Excellent breakfast after a long flight: fried egg, spinach, bacon, tomato jam, toasted poppy seed bagel, pepper, and fresh squeezed orange juice! Very nice waitress, fast service, clean. Loved the earthy decor, in keeping with its name, it had sort of a subtle jungle theme going on, with wood and bamboo look furniture. Relaxing soft jazzy music playing. All that and at a very reasonable price, considering this is an airport location. read more

Got tempted into the place after seeing on the menu Huevos Rancheros a combination of free range fried or scrambled eggs, chorizo, black beans, jack cheese, adobe sauce, avocado & tomato salsa on warm tortilla. You can have a veggie option with roasted field mushrooms. For the price of £8.25, when it comes it looks somewhat disappointing in size however the combination of flavours and that it is served on a large flat tortilla, you are soon full. The eggs were perfect, the yolks akin to poached, slightly firm on the outer with a runny centre. The Avocado was firm but not entirely tasteless though could have been richer in flavour and the same for the tomato, a little lacking in flavour. The black beans and Adobe sauce certainly lifted the dish along with the optional Chipolte sauce. Initially the service was second to none, friendly and attentive without being patronising however this slipped after I had finished eating with my bill and takeout coffee (Union roasted) taking too long and required prompting. On the whole, will certainly come again as there's another Mexican breakfast dish on the menu. read more

Very eye-catching from the outside. Draws you in with it's atmosphere and vibe. Staff are very polite and prompt which is a plus. Food was average for my taste. I'm not sure whether I just managed to get here on a day where the chef wasn't doing so well but the starters and mains were just average. I got the Laksa because I thought it was going to taste like coconut, which I enjoy very much. It didn't taste anything like coconut. If anything, it was very bland and tasted of nothing. Quite disappointed. On the whole, great space, great service from the wait staff but the food could do with a vast improvement. I may not be seeing this establishment for a very long time. read more

I always aim for a breakfast with cumberland sausages as a way to announce to myself that I've arrived in England. The breakfast here was "workable" instead of good or great. The order was messed up (got the wrong style of eggs), the bacon was 70% fat, and the hash browns where boring cubes of fried potatoes. Most of the restaurants at Gatwick are after security, which can be a problem if you're not actually "going" anywhere. So, when we were presented with a choice of Giraffe (which I'd never tried before) or Wetherspoons (all too familiar) it wasn't a particularly difficult choose. Giraffe turned out to be great. Nice food, large portion sizes and super-attentive and friendly staff. For the main course we had Thai duck served with noodles... and very nice it was too. Foolishly I ordered a side of potato wedges, they could have done with some sort of dip (not sure if such a thing is available, I ended up leaving most of to leave room for dessert and beers). The chocolate tart is literally to die for. I don't use the word literally lightly, you may well die from an excess of lovely calories and ecstatic chocolatey pleasure. It arrived as a fairly large portion, with a scoop of ice cream on top and a rich, syropy cherry sauce pooled at the base of the chocolate mountain. The Brooklyn beer I had was good too. read more

Every year, we mark the start of our holiday with a visit to Giraffe at Gatwick airport. And every year we look forward to it. So this evening was a disappointment... The starter of chicken wings was excellent, and a good-sized portion. The dipping sauce was flavoursome. The holoumi starter was also very good, and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, it took a downturn with the drinks and the main: The Stella Artois tasted watered down in my opinion, and their pipes definately also needed cleaning. Tasted more like a much cheaper brand. The harissa chicken did not really taste of harissa, and was much more like a bland chicken breast - edible but no real effort put into doing anything with it - and certainly not what was expected. The sweet potato fries were good though, and the coleslaw side was also flavoursome. I ordered a medium steak and it arrived more like medium rare. Again, edible, but not what I ordered. It was also very fatty, and this caused me to leave about 30% of it. We told the waiter about it afterwards - in the spirit of giving honest feedback, rather than complaining - and he was very apologetic and understanding. I hope that he passes on the feedback and it is acted upon. He did actually say that he never recommends the steak because it can be very hit and miss in terms of fat content. He also gave us the two beers on our bill for free - which was unsolicited but appreciated. We will probably go back again next year, but it was a bit of a let-down to start our holiday. read more

On 3rd of July 2017 I flew from Gatwick Airport After 3 hours on the train I was exusted and decided to have a grab to eat in Giraffe before my check in . I was taken to a nice table with confi seat as my request and not long after that a young kind girl approached me an asked me if I was ready to order or needed some help to decide. I was really tired so I asked for help, there was so many good choices and couldn't make up my mind. Catia the kind waitress suggested that I should try the Duck and i was really glad i asked because it was amazing, was unexpected in a good way. Also had a nice coffee latte with amazing heart design on it, was the bet coffee I ever had in a public place. As I was enjoying my meal was observing the ambient and noticed all staff happy laughing and really enjoying their job, hard to see this day. I was really impressed. thank you so much to all giraffe team and specially to Catia ho was really kind attentive and treated me with a lovely smile. Will definitely recommend this restaurant.
