We order take-out every now and then as this is our local pizza spot. My favorite item: buffalo chicken tenders form their appetizers menu. They make the chicken very tender and juicy with the perfect amount of sauce. Try it! Pizza is good 90% of the time. Last weekend we tried the steak and cheese pizza. I thought it would be something else - turns out it was just a regular pizza with a few small pieces of steak. I was a little disappointed but OK. Next time I'll know better and will stick to our usual half-cheese and half-mushrooms. read more

We ordered three pizzas the other day. One was just a plain mozzarella and sauce. That one was OK but nothing special. The other two were gluten-free. One was a cauliflower base and the other gluten-free pizza. The gluten-free pizzas were just about inedible. The taste was unpleasant, and the crust was as well. We've had delicious gluten-free pizza at Grand Pizza in Madison so I know it's possible . I certainly would never ever order a gluten-free pizza from Giovanni's again. The people there are pleasant. Recently dined in at Giovanni's. When we arrived, we were told to have a seat anywhere. Some of the tables have not been cleaned off properly and still had crumbs on them. Our server was very friendly but service was slow. My husband and I both ordered something to start with, a salad and some garlic knots. The waitress came with my meal and the garlic knots. She then came back with my salad but no pizza for my husband. Maybe a lack of communication in the kitchen? It was at least another 5-8 min before his pizza arrived. As far as the food, I ordered an eggplant parm sub, which unfortunately lacked any flavor. It was a nice size sub though. The garlic knots tasted more of oil rather than garlic. My husband did enjoy the pizza and said it was good. It could have been an off night for the restaurant but sadly our first experience was not positive enough to hurry back. read more

This is our Monday night pizza place. We get a large mozzarella pizza with mushrooms to go. The pizza is always good when we get it home and there is plenty left over. The price is good, as well. I've never had an issue with Giovanni's and it's one of the only pizza places open on Mondays, so it's a win/win. I love this place! They have so many positives and very few "off" situations that they were happy to make right. We order often, maybe once, sometimes twice a week. I love their system, if you get delivery and prefer to keep a cc on file, the ordering process is super easy and fast! I loooove seeing the hard working young delivery kids HUSTLING! They are all over town and get to you fast! I've heard some village idiots complaining about the new ovens but they're bored to be fair. I've only had one time where the sauce, cheese and toppings were a few inches from the crust. That was such a random fluke and hasn't happened since. ---------------------------- Update- I don't know if this place has just gotten too busy and can't keep up but the food and delivery has just completely fallen off. Pizza arrives like it's been sitting a while, not appetizing and very dry. We seem to have mistake after mistake occur and although they will make it right in their own way, dinner is ruined. Not worth going back. ---------------------------------- I'd just make the following recommendations based on consistency and my personal taste. Eggplant parm dinner is delish! The sub is something I would order again it was just small, not toasted and lacked enough sauce. The stuffed mushroom app is delish and addicting. The buffalo chicken strips are friggen really good! Second time I've ordered from this establishment recently, and I'm very disappointed. Large mozz pizza arrived room temp and very greasy. Caesar salad was fresh and a good size with salad dressing on the side. I received diet white birch soda instead of the regular that I ordered. Wouldn't have even been a big deal except for the fact that they did this the last time, as well when I ordered Kola and they sent me diet Kola instead which I can't drink bc the sweetener causes me to have a migraine. Ok rant time! Don't eat at Giovanni's in Northford anymore. First they no longer take credit cards for delivery orders, they are charging way too much for shit now, they charge for extra mayo & extra onions on their subs, extra sauce I understand but c'mon. I've been a resident here for many years and have been a patron of this establishment for years as well. Recently the quality over the last year or so has gone way downhill. Pizza quality has been on par with chain or low end pizza that I wouldn't expect from the New Haven area. I've had orders come through incorrect as well. Every time I go in the staff is usually up beat however the owner when he is there is always rude and gruff to his Patrons, unless it seems you're a friend or colleague, which I find terribly over confident and unappreciative of his customers. However, the last few times I have been ordering the fresh tomato, white, well done with extra garlic and they have Been knocking it out of the park. Than I get a phone call 1/2 hour after ordering with not a nice voice that my driver has been at the door. 1/2 hour vs 1 1/2 hour is a drastic time frame. The pizza here is REALLY good and the place is real nice. I just was a little upset at one specific situation where I ordered a gluten free pizza and it costed me $20- which was crazy expensive for a small gluten free (i've paid max 13$ for small gluten free). I was also upset because when I went to eat my gluten free veggie pizza, i saw breaded eggplant on it... so I couldn't it eat. I would just recommend that if you're gluten free to specifically mention you have an allergy to gluten and can't have breading lol. Otherwise it's a great place with great food!! read more

This was our first visit. Kristen was our server. She was above and beyond fantastic. She chose my wine, and my dessert, answered several question (wasn't to be a pain, genuine questions) and was very attentive. Very happy. I recommend others to sit in Kristen's section and tip well! Food was great. Love the sauce in Marengo! Bread was soft and fluffy, not hard. Dessert really was fresh. I am so pleased. I would rate it 6 stars. We will be back with friends. read more

They were very accommodating and it was very worth it, the calamari was some of the best I've ever gotten as take-out, the garlic knots were like little bread knots of garlic, and the pizza was still above average 3 days later! And they now have a full (though very compact) bar!
