I was checking on Yelp to see if Giovanni is still up and running, and I was shocked to see the negative ratings. So I decided to post this review. I initially found Giovanni by searching the internet, and came across some articles telling the story of his old-school business and training. He is at least the 3rd generation of tailors in the Milanese tradition, trained in the old ways in the Old Country, now with decades of experience and a seasoned eye for his work. If you had beamed me into his shop blindfolded, I wouldn't have known I wasn't in Italy. I initially went there around 2017 to get a jacket repaired, a Hugo Boss linen blazer I'd bought in Rome, a favourite summer jacket. I blew out one of the elbows from frequent wear, got it patched by a tailor on a subsequent trip to Rome, and that patch soon failed as the tear spread beyond the patch. Giovanni finally did the job right, with leather patches and his repair has now lasted 5 years and counting. I get compliments on the jacket / patches all the time from people who don't know they were an 'after-market' addition. So I went back to have a Hugo Boss suit altered for my wedding. He did a perfect job on that in early 2018. After that I decided to have him make me a bespoke jacket from some awesome plaid Harris Tweed fabric he had. It fit me like a glove, and remains one of my very favourite articles of clothing I have ever owned. I still go through phases where I wear it to work for days on end. But the coolest part of the whole thing was the Old World experience of having a true master attend to me so personally and intimately and professionally. This is an experience not easily had in today's world, at least not in North America. A third-generation Milanese tailor taking your measurements and making you an exquisite, unique garment that fits perfectly. Thank you Giovanni. read more
