The speed of the food was incredible but service and the quality of the food was subpar at best, especially for the price. Pasta servings were generous, except for the lasagna, and the entrees came out hot. The steak was not grilled and had a nice gray hue to it, zero crust, and zero seasoning. The fries are miserable and definitely not made to order. The vegetables were mostly lukewarm with the exception of a couple frozen pieces mixed in. If you need to eat fast, and not fast food this is a decent option if you stick with pasta. But, beware it's a pricey meh option. read more

We arrived for late night dining. Our server accommodated my group of five despite it being past 11pm. We were not rushed and the food was delicious even though it was the kitchen's last dish before closing. Get the lasagna and the zabigone for dessert. read more

Delicious Italian food. The mimosa and mojito were very good and quickly drained. The portions were large. The salad dressing was boring. One odd thing is that there is a sign for the store out front on the sidewalk and literally one block away was the exact same sign for a different restaurant. read more

One of the worst if not the worst 'Italian' restaurant. Let me just say Cesar salad was sliced iceberg lettuce and some white cream dressing bland , awful! Pizza was food court if best, veal scallopini was a bland pork chop, yes tough as nails. They were vacuuming as we ate. read more

We ended up at this restaurant as it was walking distance away from our hotel. We got seated right away without a reservation and the restaurant was busy. It is not a very big place. If you have more than 2 guests, I would suggest getting a reservation. The food was pretty good. The pizza was a bit greasy in the middle but the ingredients were very fresh. The focaccia was crunchy and dry instead of soft but it was still good. The service was okay as well. I would try a new place next time. read more

Decided to try Giottos after a long day of traveling with the family. We came in about 45 minutes before closing and ordered 3 appetizers consisting of bruschetta, cheesy garlic bread for the kids, and a caprese salad. Entrees included pizza and pastas. Service was very good with no issue. Restaurant had 4-5 groups constantly while we were seated. The capresse and pasta dishes were very good-8 out of 10. My wife had the spaghetti with salmon which was easily 2 meals for her, but the kids completely finished their bolognese spaghetti. The other dishes were not so good, especially given the price point. Margherita pizza was a 3 out of 10. Terrible undercooked flavorless soft crust, too much cheese and of a low quality. Could have been a pre frozen crust in a low temp oven. No one at the table was a fan. Bruschetta was a 5 out of 10. The bread was ok but nothing amazing. Bruschetta could benefit from some high end balsamic. Cheesy garlic bread was a 2 out of 10. If my kid doesn't eat it, something is wrong. Bread was dense, not an airy type at all. Garlic flavor was lacking and covered in the same 'not great' cheese used on the pizza. read more

Horrible food and horrible service. I mean REALLY bad. It wasn't busy and it took 45 min for our food to come - fried zucchini, a margherita pizza, penne pomodoro, and tagliatelle with pesto. The zucchini tasted like oil that hasn't been changed in 6 months. Inedible. The pizza had almost no sauce and so much cheese. No basil. It said tomato, basil, mozzarella on the menu! It was not a margherita pizza. Terrible. And it's a shame because the dough was good. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I've been here several times, and I think it's quite honestly pretty fab, but in a very laid-back sort of way-- a slice of Italian hospitality in London, both the good and the bad bits of that. They're very laid back in terms of service, and the food is rather good Italian standards. After just a couple of visits, the staff starts to remember you (or they did me, in any case), and you get warm, hearty hellos. The whitebait is always fresh & lovely; the bottom wines punch above their weight class (Sicilian reds, mark these words, will soon be a Big Thing), pasta is right al dente, and they'll do mini portions as starters. My lactose intolerance suggests that I not have Carbonara, but I'll always have a few bites of this, it's that good. read more

This was a lovely surprise....a really sweet family-run Italian restaurant, smack in the middle of 'tourist central' on New Oxford Street. After a few pints with friends at The Crown Pub (across the street from this restaurant), hunger drove us elsewhere but the bad weather kept us from going too far away. I walked across the street with some trepidation, as part of my party included a picky Italian who...if the food and service were not acceptable...could be difficult to manage! In brief: Ambience: Clean, modern, comfortable. Staff: Warm and friendly. Prices: Typical of the area, very good value for money as the portion sizes are quite big. Food: The pastas and salads were excellent, pastas done perfectly. Pizzas were good, although some of my dining partners thought the toppings were a bit sparse. Interestingly the chips were amazing, properly homemade and nicely flecked with fresh parsley. We ended the meal with some liqueurs. My dear Italian friend wanted a Limoncello but wasn't happy that the variety available was from Verona, which he said wasn't the best Limoncello to have. (which we all thought was hysterical, but the poor waiter was quite confused). I stuck with a Tia Maria and he settled for a safe Amaretto. I should also note we were a table of 6 which some small places struggle to manage...but here the service was right on the ball. Deliziosa! read more

Last night of London vacation and #2 daughter who's been living here for 6 months suggested Giotto for her sister's birthday and because of the live piano music. On arrival, we were greeted warmly enough. Yes, there's a piano player, but it's a small spinet piano, and we were seated so far away that it was a non-factor for me. We had a convivial server, an older gent with an Italian accent. It took forever for the food to come out, but it was probably the kitchen's fault. I heard a very loud argument coming from the basement kitchen area, it sounded like an Eastern European language I didn't recognize. I didn't like the lighting at all, in-ceiling hi-hats with intense LED's like an operating room's! Also, several patrons at other tables kept staring when they heard our American accents, I mean like "WTF are you staring at, pal?" stares....but I digress, onto the food. Apps were calamari rings that were pedestrian at best (the server did warn us they were frozen!) and a tough unappealing bruschetta that actually abraded the roof of my mouth. Ravioli and scallopine entrees were just MEH. We did mention it was our daughter's b-day, so they did bring out a personal-size cake & ice cream with a candle for her, and the far-away pianist did play the H.B. tune....this gesture, and the good humor of our server bring the rating up from mid 2's to barely a 3 star. A nice enough Italian restaurant. We went in as they were advertising a 2 courses for £9 deal, but when we enquired of the waitress about it, she clearly didn't understand and had to get somebody else, who eventually gave us the set price menu. The choice wasn't incredible on the set menu, but it was sufficient. I had melon to start. They don't mince their descriptions - it was literally JUST melon. 4 slices of melon. Nothing else. My partner's bruchetta was considerably more complex. The main dish was tasty enough but nothing spectacular. To be honest I think you'd get just as good quality from somewhere like Zizzi's or Ask for pretty much the same price. Wine is available by the half bottle, which is good. read more

Food is subpar. Service from the female manager or owner is almost offensive in the most polite English way. We walked in before 10 or 11 to see if they we're open and the first thing she said was if you can eat in 30 minutes as they we're closing. She told that to two other people who came in after as well. Our food came out VERY quickly so I'm sure everything was either preprepared or microwaved. It made our stomachs a little upset. If you can past this and make it to Shake Shack, I recommend doing so. read more

One big perk was the piano playing in the background, however you will have to face the unavoidable tip-me gaze of the pianist upon your exit, which you may or may not succumb to. There were two reasons why we found ourselves at Giotto recently. No 1, because we had organised a reunion dinner and it was most central for us all and No 2, it was on tastecard so there was a deal to be had. Giotto is a cute looking Italian restaurant in an area which has its fair share of tourists. Being a stones' throw away from the British Museum, the delights of the theatre district and door to door guest houses/hotels, it is a destination base for a lot of travellers, albeit a bit more family orientated and grown up. This was clear in the restaurant. It was devoid of locals, cool cats and young folk in general, just groups of older tourist types. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The team are old school Italian men who are flamboyant in their service style. The service is informal and hinges on you knowing what you want as they don't really guide you. For 50% off the food what more would you want. Two of us were brave enough to have starters. We both opted for the king prawns in a garlic and light tomato sauce. There was a lot of dill in it, which for me, did not work - sorry. When I think of dill, I think of salmon. With garlic prawns dishes like this, i have always enjoyed fresh parsley. Maybe this is a thing and I didn't know about but whilst it did not completely spoil my dish, it didn't not make it great either. For main courses, one of our companions who had already stuffed her face at home went for mini bruschetta. A light starter. Martin, ordered steak, which first arrived in the form of Salmon, yep, a little bit of a mix-up there. Do they sound similar, maybe they do? Anyway it was quickly rectified. It was a good portion of steak smothered with peppercorn size, a side of potatoes, broccoli and carrots. Martin was indifferent to its taste. No wow, but no "it's cack" either. There were two pizza orders, one with parma ham and rocket, another with pepperoni, ham and chilli. I had my good ole favourite, chicken. So, there were two things about this that made it mediocre, the chicken was so fatty. It's chicken for god's sake so this should not be the case. Cheap cut anyone? The cream was also a wee bit congealed, I would say they had this over the heat a little too long. I was hungry, so I wolfed down what was edible. They had a live pianist if anyone is in to that. This is not what Italians would call a fantastic Italian. This is not what I would call an Italian. The food was just passable items to serve to a crowd who will not be back because they don't live here. It's not geared towards establishing loyalty and repeat custom. Whilst the service was good, there was not much more that would warrant us retuning. It's an okay place if you are in the area and have limited options or want to save a penny or two. read more

When my boyfriend and I visited London, we stumbled upon this place as we were visiting the museum. I loved their Alfredo and the Tagliatelle el Fungi. It was so good that we went back a second time (in the rain and almost getting lost) because we were having a hard time finding flavorful Italian food in that area.
