There are two things you must eat while in Chicago: A Chicago dog (with the celery salt, please!) and Chicago deep-dish pizza. Giordano's seemed to be a good choice. When I walked in, I was greeted and seated promptly. Once I received the menu, however, I was a little shocked at how "proud" they are of their pies. Many items on the menu would have exceeded my company's limit on dinner pricing, even for Chicago. I settled on a small pie which was somewhat hidden on the menu along with a beer. The beer arrived quickly and I'm glad I got the larger one. The pie took almost an hour. Granted they warn you the pie will take 45 minutes or so, so I was kind of disappointed it took longer. Set expectations too long, then when it arrives quicker the customer is happy. When I received the pie, an apologetic server said he "fat-fingered" the order in the POS and they put sweet, carmelized onions on my pizza (instead of black olives). I really don't like sweet entrees unless they're supposed to be sweet. Pizza is supposed to be oily, tomatoey, cheezy, and salty. These onions really took the flavor in the wrong direction. Under normal conditions, I would have requested that they remake it. However, that would have taken another hour. I picked off the onions, but their flavor was baked in. A significant amount of salt was added to the pizza to try and reduce the sweetness. All in all, I was expecting better pizza, even excepting the wrong toppings. They gave me a discount on my order, but I still left rather unsatisfied with my dinner. read more

This was my first time eating a deep pizza and I'm so happy it was in Chicago. I never thought I would enjoy it. We ordered the lunch special personal size 6" cheese deep dish with parmesan fries with ranch dip and it was perfection! Giordano's makes their deep dish in 4 layers: crust, cheese and whatever else you decide to add, dough and then sauce. I was nervous the 6" wasn't going to be enough but since the pizza is thick it was more than enough! I love Parmesan fries but it was my first time having it with ranch dressing and it was a game changer! I enjoyed it so much I ordered it for delivery later that night to my hotel and it was just as amazing! read more

I've been to Giordano's at various locations through the years. This was an enjoyable spot not far from the Willis Tower, and only a short stroll from Grant Park. There was plenty of seating - although it did get busy - and the restaurant was clean and well kept. Service was good, even though it was a hectic point in the evening dinner rush. The pre-order option reduces the wait time for a deep dish pizza...and the pizza was superb! One member of our party also ordered a thin pizza, which is hand-tossed outside of Chicago...order super thin for actual "thin" pizza. Even the thin pizza was very good! read more

I finally got to try deep dish pizza my third time visiting Chicago. Finally! In fact, before Giordano's I had Lou Malnati's a couple days before, so the next time I'm in Chicago I'll try Uno's. I'm not into the whole debate about thin crust vs. deep dish, so I don't have any strong opinions there. As long as it has good flavor and texture I am all for it no matter what style of pizza. Having said that, I feel like I can eat pizza every week, but maybe not deep dish. Holy moly it is so heavy and filling I need to take a nap after eating it! We were seated in a back room which was pretty cramped and was shared by two large parties with a lot of kids. It wasn't the most pleasant dining experience with parents allowing their children run around the restaurant and not using their "inside voices", but we endured it. We started off by splitting an Italiano salad, which was loaded with meats and cheese, yum! Then we split an Chicago Classic stuffed deep dish pizza, which was served to us warm. Bummer. I really wanted it nice and hot so that when we cut into it all the cheese just oozed out. I was able to eat two slices before tapping out. Those two slices sat in my stomach like lead bricks, I tell ya! The pizza itself was good but I guess I was expecting great, so I can't give it a raving review. I also love pizza crust and this one just didn't do it for me, and I actually preferred Lou Malnati's crust and tomato sauce. read more

Giordano's is my favorite pizza and the service my family received by our server Delia was amazing! she was patient while taking our order.

My first time in Chicago and at Giordano's and it was the best experience! Yasmin the manager was amazing and took great care of us!

I had a great time here. I was here by myself for a class I was taking & it was my first time trying deep dish pizza in Chicago. Let me tell you that I'm a big fan of thin crust but I still ordered it for the experience. The pizza did not disappoint. My Moscow mule was great as well & the chocolate chunk with ice cream topping (which was huge) was also delicious. Most importantly my server Marco was so attentive & personable. I'm giving this place 5 starts for him. The wait time was long but in their defense it was Saturday night. Thank you Marco read more

Giordano's is suppose to be a famous restaurant for Chicago style deep dish pizza and that is exactly what we came here for. The service was excellent!! We were told right away that it takes 45 minutes to bake a deep dish pizza and we were fine with it. Sure enough, it came in about 45 minutes, a DEEP dish, a small can easily feed 3 people. Maybe it's just me, but the crust was too "pie" like, not bready enough. At the edges, it was hard. The "toppings" were generous and very cheesy, which is great. We ordered the one with mushroom, sausage, peppers and onions. The flavor was subtle. The cheese was great but didn't have much sausage taste. Had to load it up with hot pepper flakes to add flavor. Overall, it was a good experience and got a taste of authentic Chicago style pizza! read more

Back for a second time and this time a manager came over and talked us up. John even recommended items and was spot on! Server was nice and wait was short. Pizza was piping hot and beer was cold! This is fast becoming one of our Chicago trip staples! This place is great even as a chain! The extra thin pizza is thin and crispy just like I love it (sorry deep dish fans but my date loved the deep dish- each to their own). Service was great. Hostess Brandi was very nice, server was funny, and theJohn the manager even came to our table and shared some Chicago stories. Next time we are in town we will be back! read more

Giordano's was recommended by a few co-workers as a must try. I knew right away they must be right as the place was packed on a Wednesday. Our group put down our name for a table, ordered ours pizzas and settled into the lounge while we waited. The timing was perfect as shortly after our table was ready so was our food. Worst experience of my life. Order pizza yesterday at 12:35 and by 3:00 I still didn't receive my pizza. I was told deep dish pizza takes a long time but come on almost 3 hours. I would have cancelled it but it was snowing and everyone wanted to try deep dish pizza. When we got it it was cold. Not only that but they charge you 20 something dollars in tax and fees for 2 pizzas that cost you 50 dollars. NEVER AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. Horrible horrible service. I even called to ask and the girl told me we don't delivery to Hyatt and hung up. Wasn't worth the frustration or the money for pizza that wasn't that great. Very overrated. read more

Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen or a less than excellent batch of sauce. We hit Giordanos on West Jackson on our way out of town. We loved the deep dish at another Giordano location in Chicago last summer - so much so that I ordered two frozen pizzas through Gold Belly as Chanukah gifts to my husband this last winter. In both instances the pizza was the best we'd ever had. Today the sauce tasted like regular pizza sauce from a jar, and the crust just wasn't the same. The server said that there had been no change in the sauce in the past 1.5 years he's worked there. All the servers were wonderful by the way. But today's pizza was sub par. Sorry. read more

The deep dish was good too but we couldn't even finish a small, it was just too heavy.. I've also learned that if you LOVE cheese on your pizza, go to this place. Other places have a bit more sauce. I looove thin crust pizza which they have here as well. The ambiance was casual, almost like a bar type feel to it. They have TVs if you're looking for a game to watch at the same time. read more

You better take that calorie counter and shove it if you're going to do a deep dish pizza done properly. It feels like a mortal sin eating such decadence. In New York, you eat slices of pizza, whereas Chicago deep dish is more like having bricks of pizza. But we came for a purpose! Not only to attend a wedding (shout out to Jazzy and Tushar!), but to immerse ourselves in a Chicago food tour. That said, in my experience, when it comes to deep dish, Giordano's does it best, and like no other. Between three of us, we shared two pies, one plain and the other stuffed with veggies (green peppers, mushroom, onions). The tomato sauce was mild and not overpowering, and the ingredients were a fresh medley of savory and crunchy bits. The gooey cheese, crunchy crust, and slithers of veggies were tasty mouthfuls of spectacular deep dish pizza. We ordered more than we were (literally) able to chew, and felt slightly disgusted as we left because of the amount of food consumed, but, as our first deep dish experience, it went over exceptionally well. If you're visiting Chicago for the first time and want to know where to go for deep dish, I would suggest Giordano's. read more

Ehh. Lol. I was very excited for the Chicago style deep-dish... but I could get a similar thing at Patxi's in California for way better! It was very cheesy, crust was thick and butter, etc but something was missing. It also wasnt as piping hot- fresh out the oven as expected. Disappointed. We got Buffalo Wings as an appetizer to start. Buffalo sauce was too strong for me. If you like it, the dish is for you! Celery was good though. read more

In terms of quality the pizza it falls somewhere between drunk pizza and a tourist trap. The center of the pizza was pretty good but once you got to the crust it was very bland. The interior of this place looks like it hasn't been through a remodel in 2 or 3 decades On the plus side, they do serve pitchers of beer. They were able to accommodate our large group (around 10). The server was friendly and it made for an overall fun night for a large group. read more

As a first timer in Chicago, I wanted to give all the deep dish pies a chance so obviously hit up Giordanos. It was ok but I probably wouldn't go back. I liked that we were able to place a pizza order before getting seated to reduce overall wait time. We went with a small Chicago Classic. We almost had an issue getting spinach swapped for the mushroom. A manager needed to be involved. Seriously? I had also gotten skipped online prior to even ordering. I wasn't a happy camper. We got seated within minutes of ordering so didn't even time to order anything at the bar. The craft beer list was pretty limited, especially in comparison to Geno's East. We split a small house salad to hold us over during the wait. We asked for cheese on the side. The salad came out with cheese on it, and on the side. D'oh. So the pizza finally came out and it was placed on the sort of unstable elevated holder, not a pan or dish. It wasn't really warm. The crust was really rich and buttery at first but then got kind of hard, almost like it had been frozen. It hardened if you didn't eat it too quickly. It seemed more like a stuffed crust versus a deep dish. The place was definitely family friendly. There was crying and screeching galore. Our server only popped by sporadically. It wasn't a bad visit but it just wasn't that great. I'd pass and not recommend this pizza joint. read more

If, like me, you are from California and think you've tried some pretty good deep-dish pizza, you haven't seen nothing yet. When I thought of stuffed pizza, I imagined cheese oozing out of a nice thick crust a la Pizza Hut. Boy was I mistaken. Giordano's Chicago-style pizza is about as thick as a pie, double layered in crust, with all the pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, and other toppings stuffed in the middle, and topped with plenty of marinara and melted cheese. Definitely a force to be reckoned with. A medium was more than enough for 4 of us. Though I did love the pizza, the crust was a bit of a bread overload after a few bites. And for those who are starving, it takes about 35 min for them to make each pizza. Luckily the restaurant is huge and we seem to have gone one a rare day where there was no line, so we didn't have to wait to be seated. read more

I don't live in Chicago, so I'm no pizza connoisseur, but this was AMAZING. My salad was to die for, the cheese curds were heaven, and the pizza still has my mouth watering. I ordered sangria, and it wasn't memorable, so grab a beer or stick with water so you have more room for PIZZA. We got right in as a group of 5, and the clientele was everything from date nights, to business meetings, to family reunions -seriously one table had to have been at least 6 families. I think we ordered a dessert, but I can't remember because everything was overshadowed by the best pizza I've ever had in my life shrug read more

I think it's great! Granted, I order my flash frozen pizza from Malinatis (and get more spam mail from them now than I did with Omaha Steaks...no I don't need a giant heart shaped cookie..i just need a pizza..thank you), but I have no complaints about Giordanos. I love Chicago pizza - not going to get into the whole NYC vs Chicago argument, because both have their merits, when done correctly. Although I will say Chicago is a much more awesome city than NYC in just about every aspect, and I'll take Wrigley over the new stadiums in NY any day. My latest trip I got a personal pie, which is perfect size, price, taste. It came out in a few minutes, which was fantastic, but it still appeared to be fresh - guess they just keep 'em coming during lunch. I know, Giordnos is a chain, but it's a pretty awesome one, and I'm happy I had a chance to patronize the place. read more

"Meh. I've experienced better" just about sums it up. Day 3 of an intense work schedule in Chicago. My client (also from out of town) suggested grabbing some Chicago deep dish for lunch. I probably should have suggested that unlike NY-style pizza, one does not "grab some deep dish". Deep dish done right takes 40 minutes and isn't really something conducive to a quick lunch. But oh well. I knew Giordano's was an easy walk from the Metcalf federal building so off 5 of us went. Full disclosure: - I like Chicago deep dish. - I am from Boston. I do not consider Chicago deep dish pizza - its more a savory Italian pie. - I'm a big fan of Lou Malnati's and I also enjoy the offerings from Gino's East. Never the less, Giordano's (another location) is one of my Yelp bookmarks so I figured it couldn't be that bad. We walked a little after noon and were promptly seated. The waitress informed us that all pizzas would take at least 40 minutes, including the addition of any toppings to the lunch special pies. Not having the luxury of an extended lunch before the afternoon meetings got underway, everyone opted for one of the 4 lunch special pies. Offering the "lunch special" individual pies is really doing Giordano's a disservice as its encouraging them to serve a substandard product. What they don't tell you - but you can pretty much figure out if you know how long deep dish takes - is that the pies are pre-cooked and heated up in the oven before serving. Yes the pies came out in under 10 minutes pretty hot, but it was nearly impossible to saw through the over-baked crust of my sausage pie. Everyone else at the table had a similar problem and most ended up just scooping the sauce, meat and cheese out of the center. Their fresh-baked pies might be wonderful - but what I had clearly wasn't. And at $15 for my individual over-cooked sausage pie, a soda, tip and tax - it was clearly overpriced for the quality. read more

Wow! now that was a deep-dish pizza! So large, and so cheesy. It really was an eye-opening experience for a first-time Chicago visitor. Luckily, there are many locations around town, to spread the wealth of their signature dish. This place is always crowded around dinner, expect a 30-40 minute wait for small groups. Ingeniously, they allow you to pre-order your pizzas because deep-dish ones take 45 mins to cook. You know those pizza commercials, where the slice comes out of the box with the cheese sticking to the other slices? that doesn't happen in real life. Well it happens with these guys! It's like your toppings are floating in a sea of melted mozzarella. Once it hits your plate, the whole thing starts oozing about. My buddy and I got a small with 1/2 tropical delight, and the other 1/2 Super Vegi. It had 6 slices and we got through 2 slices each. We were both pretty full at that point, but we couldn't help but fill ourselves with one more slice. In the end the pizza is about $20, which is a great deal. Giordano's is definitely my favorite stuffed pizza place in Chicago after going to Ginos East and Pizanos. I look forward to coming back in the future. read more

Yeah yeah, it's a chain, blah blah, but it was GOOD. We got the "tropical" pizza which was really just a Hawaiian - ham and pineapples. Cheese was oozing out rapidly out of the thick crust. Do wheels of cheese have goals? If mozzarella could talk what does it want to be when it grows up? Aspirationally, the type A mozarella would likely scream, "I want to be part of a Giordano's pizza!" For that matter, I am sure the type A tomatoes, the over achieving flour, and hyper-competitive spinach would all be angling to meet up with the mozzarella in the super-team that is the Famous Stuffed Fresh Spinach Deep Dish Pizza at Giordano's. We were visiting from out of town and were walking quickly down West Jackson Blvd. because we knew that Giordano's closes at 11:00 PM. It had been many years since we had been in Chicago and Giordano's was at the top of our list of restaurants to visit while we were here. We were cutting it close, but hunger does strange things to the fight or flight response, and right now we were fighting our fatigue in a quick flight to cheesy, tomatoey, spinachy, yummy crunchy crusty goodness. We entered and were told we had made it in time to order a stuffed deep dish masterpiece. These gooey portions of nirvana take approximately 30 minutes to prepare and so we settled into a comfortable booth anticipating the arrival of our stuffed spinach pizza. When it arrived we were elated. It is hard to describe how tremendous the flavors are as they come together in this triumph of pizza making. The crust is slightly flaky around the outside, but not fragile, and it is the best pizza crust flavor we have ever experienced. The cheese and spinach is surrounded in an envelope of dough making it pie-like in its construction with the deliciously spiced tomato sauce layered over the top. This is, throughout all our travels and pizza sampling, the zenith of pizza. We left well fed and thankful we were able to dine at Giordano's on this trip. It had been too long and we are hopeful we can return soon to make more magnificent pizza memories. read more

Despite being a suburban Chicagoan and having borderline-frightening pride in all things civic (save for cronyism...), I am not wedded to deep dish pizza. It's good - very good. Do I adore it on the scale of others? No. But I needed to fulfill some promises I had made to a future tourist, who had only been in Chicago once as a stopover during a road trip - one that only allowed a quick lunch. This tourist, a grad school roomie to be exact, was promised earth-shatteringly delicious pizza. Giordano's is the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. The cheese is melty and gooey, the fillings are flavorful and spread out well. The crust! People think it tastes like cardboard? Garsh no. It is so dense and fabulous. Lou's is cornbread-y, but i'm Not Here For That - I can go to a Cajun restaurant for a cornbread fix. (BTW why does Lou's insist that carelessly spread out tomatoes constitutes tomato sauce?) Each location is touristy as all hell and features lines of a frustrating magnitude. (Perhaps the suburban locations differ? I hope to find out someday.) This is right next to the Sears (not Willis kthxbai) Tower. Even on a Thursday night at 6:15pm, we had to wait a bit. We continued to wait, since the restaurant is enormous and busy - the servers aren't cordial/your future BFFs. That's fine. It takes a while, but hey, it's made to order and delicious. I don't need perfect service when I'm eating this sinful mound of deliciousness, do I? read more

Service is alright. 45 minutes to bring out deep dish pizza. For lunch special you can get a personal pizza (that's pre frozen/made) for around $8. Our waiter told us not to get this if we're really looking for the Chicago pizza experience. While we were waiting we got chicken wings which came with ranch and celery. It was alright. The sauce was strong and sort of weird. We got pizza that had green peppers and mushrooms and some others. Most of the group said the ranch made it much better. I felt the dough was a bit too soggy. The crust was crunchy and good to my liking. Going at 3pm, there wasn't much of a wait or line. This is one of the best places to introduce people to Chicago-style pizza. I have tried The Special, Chicago Classic, Meat & More Meat, and Super Veggie Stuffed Deep Dish pizzas. All except the Super Veggie were very good. I like veggie pizzas, but it isn't the best option for this type of pizza. The pizza sauce is very flavorful and probably my favorite out of all of the places I have had in Chicago. Their bruschetta and garlic fries starters are pretty standard. I recommend saving room for pizza. The only reason Giordano's does not get 5 stars is because of its inconsistency. The first time I ate here, I couldn't believe that pizza could taste so good. Yum! I prefer this place much more over Lou Malnati's - quite a bit! This has a much larger cheese to dough ratio, along with a much tastier sauce. In comparison to Lou's, the ratio of dough to ingredients was much better - although the lack of butter crust meant a pretty stiff, hard crust which I opted to not eat! The restaurant itself doesn't seem as crowded as other locations, but was still fairly crowded. We were able to pre-order the pizza beforehand so that they can cook it while you're waiting. What a time saver! The only reason I'm docking a star is because they seated us in a corner and the waiter ignored us for a large amount of time. Come on, get it together! read more

While in Chicago it seemed only appropriate to try as many locations for Deep Dish Pizza as possible, unfortunately Giordano's was my least favorite. Sitting down at the bar after a long day exploring the city, we excitedly ordered the Stuffed Deep Dish with Pepperoni & a couple of beers as we settled in. While the menu was packed with promise & the pizza itself appeared impressive when it hit table, my friend & I unfortunately felt let down by the dense heaviness of the base & overwhelming acidity of the tomato. It purely wasn't to our taste. We later sat down at Lou Malnati's in South Loop & found the pizza's here much cheesier & just generally what our vision of what Deep Dish should look like. read more

Best pizza ever. First deep dish and definitely my favorite. Came to Chicago for a bachelorette party. First stop : DEEP DISH STUFFED PIZZA There was no wait at all. We weren't too hungry so out of 5 girls, we ordered one medium pizza (half Chicago half veggie garlic) and split bruschetta. I think the veggie garlic was the favorite. The garlic definitely made the pizza. AHHH so good. And the bruschetta was delicious too. Huge slabs of mozzarella on top of a baguette with the juiciest tomatoes mixed with basil. Loved everything here. Be aware : it takes about 45-60 minutes to make the pizza so you should probably come here willing to wait that long. They have a large selection of appetizers and a full bar of course. I even came back here to pick up a pizza to take back to Cali on our last day in Chicago! read more
